Director Dylan Kidd (Roger Dodger) is attached to direct Get a Job for CBS Films, and he’s setting up a very nice cast. Miles Teller is in negotiations to star. Offers are out to Anna Kendrick and Bryan Cranston. Christopher Mintz-Plasse and SNL‘s Jay Pharaoh are also in talks; Kidd’s Rodger Dodger star Jesse Eisenberg is looking to take on a cameo in the comedy. According to Variety, the script by Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel follows “a college graduate and his friends who have to lower their expectations about life as they enter the real world during a recession.” Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher (Extraordinary Measure) are producing.
After a critically acclaimed turn in Rabbit Hole and a scene-stealing supporting role in Footloose, Teller is poised for… well, an Eisenberg-level breakout. He has two films coming up in 2012—Project X and 21 and Over—that could connect with young audiences. Plus, acting opposite Kendrick and Cranston always looks good on a resume. I also hope this is the first of many times we see Pharaoh pop up outside of Saturday Night Live, since the sketch show doesn’t seem to know what to do with him.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to bring you this afternoon. First up, Jessica Chastain, Bryan Cranston, and Martin Short have been added to the voice cast of DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. It’s a curious bit of news, as the film hits theaters in a matter of months and a full trailer has already been released, but I’m assuming the three are up for minor roles. Heat Vision’s report doesn’t specify what characters Chastain, Cranston, and Short will be lending their voices to, but Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Sacha Baron Cohen are all reprising their roles from the first two films.
The plot finds the zoo animals yet again trying to make their way back to New York City, but this time they find themselves on the wrong side of the law in Europe. Frances McDormand voices the villain in the pic, which hits theaters June 8th. Hit the jump for casting news regarding Ben Stiller’s directorial project The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Later this year we’ll see Bryan Cranston in the sci-fi epic John Carter, but before that, the Breaking Bad star is heading into space along with the animated spy Archer for the two-part season finale. The new season doesn’t even begin until January 19th, but The Huffington Post reports the finale is already slated to have Cranston play Commander Drake an “earnest, conscientious astronaut” trying to stop mutiny aboard the International Space Station. In addition, series creator and executive producer Adam Reed also revealed that Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) will also guest star in an upcoming episode where the Isis team heads to West Virginia to help Gillette’s marijuana farming brother (Rooker). McBrayer is perfectly suited for backwoods parts of West Virginia, but Cranston in space with some of the crew will be something special to behold. The third season of Archer begins on January 19th at 10/9c on FX.
Details on Emma Stone and others taking guest spots on 30 Rock after the jump.

Tony Kaye made a big splash in 1998 with his directorial debut American History X. He has kept busy in the years since, but maintained a low profile. That could change with his new film Detachment. The cast will bring name recognition to the film: veterans Adrien Brody, James Caan, Christina Hendricks, Lucy Liu, Marcia Gay Harden, Bryan Cranston, William Petersen, Blythe Danner, Tim Blake Nelson are joined by fresh faces like Betty Kaye and Sami Gayle. Tribeca Films acquired the film in September, and has released trailers and clips over the last month that stand out from the vast collection of promotional material we host here at Collider. The story follows a substitute teacher (Brody) on assignment at a failing public school. The appeal of Detachment is in the execution, so hit the jump for trailers, clips, posters, and images from the film.

For as long as I can remember, Tom Hanks has been the reigning champ of the romantic comedy genre. Oh, sure, upstarts have come along every few years to try and overthrow the dude’s throne, but if you’ve ever seen Splash, Sleepless in Seattle, or Bachelor Party (What? That’s not a rom-com? Well, what about the donkey?), you know that Hanks is pretty much undefeatable in these kinda roles: his everyman likability, his universal demographic appeal, his longstanding reputation as the nicest dude in Hollywood—it all adds up to a rom-com master. This year’s Larry Crowne, recently released on DVD, will do nothing to tarnish that reputation…but it also won’t do anything to advance it. Read on for the full review, after the jump.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. The film tells the story of a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who falls in love with a larger-than-life rocker (Tom Cruise) set against the backdrop of the 1980s music scene, featuring songs from the likes of Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon. The gist of the trailer is that if you like 80s rock, you’ll probably like a musical that only features 80s rock and uses it as a basis for the plot. But there’s also an important lesson: When sleazy guy played by Paul Giamatti give you a chance at fame, you take him up on his obviously legit offer.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. The film also stars Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mary J. Blige. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Rock of Ages opens on June 1, 2012.

The latest trailer for the World War II film Red Tails finally has found the right balance between drama and action. The movie is based on the real-life story of the first all African-American squadron and their fight to defend our country. They were given second-hand planes and the most dangerous missions, and it makes their story all the more incredible. The new trailer is the most exciting so far because it while it still has the grandiose language, it feels more comfortable when couched in an exciting action film (and that action looks spectacular).
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film was produced by George Lucas and stars Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson, and Nate Parker. Red Tails opens January 20, 2012.

A new trailer Anthony Hemingway’s World War II action-drama Red Tails. The pic tells the true story of the Tuskeegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. The group was given second-rate aircraft and supplies, but shined through the adversity and accomplished some of the most dangerous missions of World War II. I’m still not sold on the film as a whole (the cheese factor comes through a bit too often), but the visual effects and aerial battles look top-notch. Hopefully there’s more character development to be found in the full feature.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film was produced by George Lucas and stars Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson, and Nate Parker. Red Tails opens January 20, 2012.

Warner Premiere has released a new clip from the upcoming Direct-to-Video animated film Batman: Year One. The clip features Lieutenant Gordon (voiced by Bryan Cranston) and his wife coming to visit playboy Bruce Wayne (Ben McKenzie). The clip is notable for two reasons: 1) I now really want Bryan Cranston to play Jim Gordon in the next Batman movie; and 2) Bruce Wayne gives Mrs. Gordon the Basic Instinct shot. That’s kind of great even though Tommy Cook had mixed feelings on the film as a whole.
Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film, based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name, also features Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Essen, and Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Batman: Year One is now available for download on iTunes, Xbox Live, Zune, Vudu HD, and PlayStation Netwoek. It hits Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, and On Demand on October 18th.

AMC’s Breaking Bad has taken fans on one helluva journey over the past four seasons, and the series’ most recent season has been one of the best yet. There is, in fact, an argument to be made for the show getting better with each passing episode, but we’ll save that for another day. Instead, let’s talk about Breaking Bad’s Sunday-night season finale: will Hank figure out why Gus has been three steps ahead of him all this time? Will Skylar turn out to be pregnant again? And—as the old Texas Chainsaw Massacre poster used to ask—who will survive, and what will be left of them? Check out my predictions for the Breaking Bad fourth season finale after the jump, folks.

Earlier this month we brought you the first official synopsis of Ben Affleck’s new political/period drama Argo. Then we saw a few set photos of Alan Arkin with Affleck who was looking fly in his wide-collared wardrobe complete with gold chain and chest hair a-poppin’. The supporting cast—which includes names like Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and Michael Parks—combined with the Affleck’s directing talent make Argo look like a must-see. Now we know when we will see: According to Box Office Mojo, Warner Bros. has set the release date for September 14, 2012. This release date follows yesterday’s release date news about another potential WB awards contender, Gangster Squad.
Hit the jump for the synopsis and my thoughts on the release date.

Tribeca Film announced today that it has acquired all U.S. distribution rights for director Tony Kaye’s (American History X) drama Detachment. The deal means that Tribeca is responsible for all distribution including theatrical, VOD, digital and DVD. Written by Carl Lund, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Marcia Gay Harden, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner and William Peterson.
Detachment revolves around Henry Barthes (Brody), a promising teacher whose apathy prevents him from forming emotional bonds with those around him. As luck would have it, his new gig at an equally apathetic public school begins to put Henry in a role model position. Hit the jump for the official press release (which features a little more plot info) and for a hi-res image from the film.

A video from the set of director Marc Forster’s (Quantum of Solace) adaptation of Max Brooks’ World War Z has popped up online and it gives viewers a great look at what transforming into a zombie is all about (Hint: you become very flexible). Starring Brad Pitt, Bryan Cranston, Anthony Mackie, Matthew Fox, Mireille Enos and James Badge Dale, the film centers on a United Nations employee (Pitt) who trots around the globe in an attempt to stop a devastating pandemic.
Check out the set video after the jump. World War Z is set to open on December 21st, 2012.

Ben Affleck’s Argo began shooting today. The film has a killer cast that includes Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Victor Garber, Richard Kind, and Michael Parks. I don’t really care about press releases announcing that filming has commenced (what’s newsworthy is when it looks like filming will commence and then it doesn’t), but this press release includes the first official synopsis for the movie. Check it out:
Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis—the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.
Okay, so that doesn’t point out that his plan is to use a fake movie as cover for the operation, but that’s the hook. Affleck co-wrote the script with Good Night and Good Luck. screenwriter Grant Heslov. Hit the jump for the full press release which includes a rundown of the behind-the-camera talent.

Six new character banners from director Nicolas Winding Refn’s (Bronson) crime drama Drive have landed online. Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, and Oscar Isaac, the film centers on a stunt driver (Gosling) who moonlights as a wheelman for hire. Matt screened the film at Comic-Con last month and loved it. Steve also loved it and I’m currently angry at both of them for having seen it already. So there.
Check out the new banners after the jump. Drive opens on September 16th at which point my vendetta with my Collider colleagues may finally come to an end.
