Once upon a time Bullet to the Head, led by Sylvester Stallone, was supposed to hit theaters last month.  Then Warner Bros. pulled it off the schedule amid rumors of trouble in the editing room.  But director Walter Hill promised, “I’m currently finishing up and locking reels on the movie—as to the content and style of the film, Sly and I are in perfect sync.”  The studio has now followed up on that promise with an official release date.  Per Box Office Mojo, Bullet to the Head will bow on February 1, 2013, where it faces the zombie romance Warm Bodies (another movie once intended for 2012).

Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a New York City cop (Sung Kang) to “bring down the killers of their respective partners.”  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jason Momoa, and Sarah Shahi also star in the adaptation of the graphic novel Bullet to the HeadClick here for more recently announced release dates.

We recently brought you word that Warner Bros. had erased Sylvester Stallone’s Bullet to the Head from their release schedule so that Sly could oversee the presumed final cut of the film. It turns out that the reports were unfounded, as a studio response today has put to rest any rumors of apparent unease within the project. The press release includes a statement from director Walter Hill (The Warriors) himself, assuring fans that the film is running smoothly and he and Stallone are on the same page. He also reports that they’re finishing up shoots on Bullet to the Head, a story that follows a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and an NYPD detective (Sung Kang) who team up to track down the men who killed their respective partners. That should come as good news to Hill and Stallone fans, as Bullet to the Head sounds like it should be a good old fashion action movie (axe fights!) with two of the genre’s greatest veterans. Sylvester Stallone is single-handedly trying to resurrect good old fashioned kick-ass action movies. He literally pushed himself to the breaking point on The Expendables and reprised his most famous roles in the films Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Now, Stallone is venturing into new territory with the graphic novel adaptation, Bullet to the Head, and it looks like he’ll be overseeing the final cut of the film. It was recently reported that Warner Bros. had erased the film from its April 13th release date without providing any information as to why or updating it with a new release. Sources now point to a November release date for the film due to Stallone needing the additional time to approve a final cut. Bullet to the Head follows a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) who teams up with a New York cop (Sung Kang of Fast Five) to track down the killers of their respective partners. Warner Bros. has released new images and official synopses for director Nima Nourizadeh‘s Project X, Walter Hill‘s Bullet to the Head, Adam Shankman‘s Rock of Ages, and Todd Lincoln‘s The Apparition.  While we’ve already seen an extremely funny trailer for Project X (which was produced by Todd Phillips) and a mediocre first trailer for Rock of Ages, WB has yet to release any footage from Bullet to the Head (which stars a shirtless Sylvester Stallone) and The Apparition (which was originally scheduled for release last year).  With these first images being released, I’d imagine we’ll be getting the first trailers very soon.  As a big fan of Walter Hill (48 Hours, Brewster’s Millions, The Warriors, The Driver), I’m really hoping Bullet to the Head is awesome.  Hit the jump for more.

It’s a Good Ol’ Fashioned Axe Fight in the First Image from BULLET TO THE HEAD

The first image from Walter Hill‘s action film Bullet to the Head has gone online.  Sylvester Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a cop to take down the man who killed the cop’s partner.  How does one accomplish this?  Judging by the new image, the answer is axe-fighting.  Keep your guns and your swords and your fists.  Axe-fighting is where it’s at.  But the real threat to Stallone isn’t the axe coming at his head.  It’s that his forearm is about to burst like a watermelon in a vice.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Talks THE THING and Walter Hill’s BULLET TO THE HEAD

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is an intimidating presence. Over 6ft, with massive arms and a Cheshire cat smile, Agbaje’s physical attributes have aided him in crafting some of the most threatening forces on the small screen – most notably in Lost and Oz. But recently Agbaje has begun to subvert this image playing against his natural appearance, last year as the cowering Evangelist seeking forgiveness in the under-seen/underappreciated Faster and now in The Thing prequel/remake as the jovial, soft-spoken Jameson. Agbaje doesn’t nearly have enough to do in the upcoming film, but he makes the most of his limited screen-time crafting an easy going camaraderie with Joel Edgerton’s Braxton and establishing an instantly likable persona. You can’t help but root for Jameson to beat this alien and make it the hell out of Antarctica – I mean, if that really even is Jameson to begin with.

In the following interview with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, he discusses playing against type in The Thing, developing an American accent for the film and working with both practical and CGI effects. Agbaje also previews the forthcoming Walter Hill directed/Sylvester Stallone starring Bullet to the Head and describes his role in the film. The Thing opens Friday, October 14th. We’ve got a couple of Warner Bros. release date stories for you today. First up, Deadline reports that the studio has set director Walter Hill’s adaptation of the graphic novel Bullet to the Head for release on April 13, 2012, opposite the Joss Whedon-penned Cabin in the Woods. The film stars Sylvester Stallone and centers on a New Orleans hitman who teams up with a Gotham cop to hunt down those responsible for the deaths of their respective partners. The film also stars Sung Kang and Sarah Shahi.

Additionally, the studio has moved the low-budget raunchy comedy Project X from November to March 2, 2012, where it will go toe-to-toe with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. The college-set film was put together secretly with a cast of mostly unknowns, and no one seems to know anything about the plot thus far. However, we can safely assume that he flick will be a hard R with Todd Phillips onboard as producer.

Is Jason Momoa the Villain in Sly Stallone and Walter Hill’s BULLET TO THE HEAD Adaptation?

With Sylvester Stallone and director Walter Hill’s adaptation of the graphic novel Bullet to the Head set to begin shooting later this month, it makes sense that casting news regarding the pic would begin to surface. Yesterday, we reported that Sarah Shahi (USA’s Fairly Legal) was joining the film as the daughter of Stallone’s New Orleans hit man. Tonight, Latino Review is hearing that Jason Momoa (Conan the Barbarian and Game of Thrones) is set to play the film’s villain, a man who is responsible for the death of Stallone’s former partner.

Although it would be wise to await further confirmation before taking Momoa’s inclusion as gospel, I won’t hesitate to say that I would love to see Momoa take on the role of antagonist under one condition: if he brings those dreads with him. For those unaware, Stallone and Hill’s Bullet to the Head adaptation will see Stallone’s aforementioned New Orleans hit man form an unlikely alliance with a Gotham cop for the purpose of taking down what could be Momoa’s character. Stay tuned for more details on the project as they emerge. In the meantime, just picture Momoa’s killer dreads going head-to-head with a revenge-thirsty Stallone and tell me you don’t like what you see.

We have a couple of casting bits to bring you this afternoon. First up, Sarah Shahi (USA’s Fairly Legal) has signed on to star alongside Sly Stallone in the Walter Hill adaptation of Matz and Colin Wilson’s graphic novel Bullet to the Head. Variety reports that Shahi will make a turn as Stallone’s daughter in the action pic. As a reminder, Warner Bros. untitled adaptation will feature Sly as a New Orleans hitman who joins forces with a Gotham cop in order to take out those responsible for the deaths of their respective partners. In addition to her work on Fairly Legal, the lovely Shahi can also be seen alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan in the comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It due out later this year on September 16th.

Next, Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go) has been tapped to star alongside James McAvoy and Mark Strong in the crime thriller Welcome to the Punch. Written/directed by Eran Creevy (Shifty), Welcome to the Punch centers on a criminal (Strong) and a detective (McAvoy) who become unlikely allies in the effort to expose a conspiracy. While details regarding Riseborough’s turn are sparse, Variety is confirming that she is indeed the female lead in the pic which is scheduled to begin production on July 18th in London. Along with Welcome to the Punch, Riseborough can also be seen in W.E. (co-written & helmed by Madonna) which opens on December 9th.

Sylvester Stallone, Walter Hill, and Joel Silver To Make BULLET TO THE HEAD slice Headshot

In a story that will make you want to check your calendar to make sure it isn’t somehow the mid-80s again, it appears that aging action titans Sylvester Stallone, super producer Joel Silver, and perpetually underrated director Walter Hill will be joining forces for a new movie. Much like on The Expendables, good ol’ Sly has pulled together a testosterone-laden dream team of genre superstars, but this time the talents come from behind the camera, which will hopefully lead to a better movie. The film is based on a graphic novel appropriately titled Bullet To The Head and will be splattering mangled corpses all over the big screen pretty damn soon given that shooting starts at the end of the month. It will be produced through a partnership of IM Global and After Dark Films, and released through Warner Brothers. Hit the jump for more info on Stallone’s latest ode to elderly ass-kickery.
