The Perfect Family, from first-time feature director Anne Renton, tells the story of suburban super-mom Eileen Cleary (Academy Award nominee Kathleen Turner), the ultimate devoted Catholic who gets nominated for the coveted Catholic Woman of the Year Award at her local parish and will go to any lengths to prove she’s worthy of the title. But, needing the church board’s approval is proving to be a difficult task, with her non-conformist family that includes a gay daughter (Emily Deschanel), an unhappily married son (Jason Ritter) and her recovering alcoholic husband (Michael McGrady).

At the film’s press day, Collider spoke to actress Kathleen Turner, in both a roundtable and a 1-on-1 interview, about how she came to be a part of this indie film, the ways in which she identified with her character, the challenge of finding roles that are not so predictable, and how she hopes audiences will take away a sense of compassion that is reciprocal. She also talked about the roles that fans want to talk to her about the most, why Joan Wilder (from Romancing the Stone) is the only character that she’s ever returned to for a sequel, how her role on Californication made her blush, and that she has two stage roles coming up next. Showtime Renews SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and CALIFORNICATION

While HBO made some big cuts from their original programming towards the end of last year, Showtime is keeping shows around as EW has learned that the cable network has given an additional season order to Shameless, House of Lies and Californication. Shameless gets a third season after its stellar ensemble cast, including William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum, has come through with a great second season while House of Lies, with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, has gotten stellar ratings to earn a second season while its first season is still in progress. Finally Californication is still going strong to nab a sixth season, but I don’t know if it will last beyond that. Either way, it shows that Showtime has faith in their shows and should please fans of all three series.

2012 Art Directors Guild Award Nominees Include HUGO, HARRY POTTER, DRIVE, and GAME OF THRONES

I like to see the guild awards, because the specificity allows for nominees that you won’t see on more general lists.  The Art Directors Guild is especially interesting because they separate the films into three categories: period, fantasy, and contemporary.  The 15 nominees highlight everything from Oscar favorites Hugo and The Artist, to crowd-pleasers Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and Captain America, to poorly received films like Cowboys & Aliens and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  There’s a similar contrast in the TV nominees between the classy HBO programs you’d expect (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Mildred Pierce) and the critical punching bags American Horror Story and The Playboy Club.  The full list of nominees is after the break.

Carla Gugino Exclusive Interview ELEKTRA LUXX; Updates on SUCKER PUNCH and NEW YEAR’S EVE

Elektra Luxx follows its title character, first introduced by writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez in 2009′s Women in Trouble, who is now a retired porn superstar, trying to cope with impending motherhood while coming to terms with the death of the baby’s father and her split from the porn world. Even though Elektra Luxx (Carla Gugino) is trying to live a quieter life, reinventing herself as a sex education instructor at her local community center, she quickly ends up entangled with a flight attendant (Marley Shelton) looking to have her fiancé seduced, an attractive private detective (Timothy Olyphant) who proves to be quite appealing, an over-eager sex blogger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who’s obsessed with her, a best-selling author (Kathleen Quinlan) looking to turn her life into a novel, and even the Virgin Mary (Julianne Moore) herself.

During the film’s press day, actress Carla Gugino did this exclusive interview with Collider and talked about the appeal of this rather unusual character, how much she enjoyed getting to revisit Elektra Luxx, and the challenge of shooting a film in 15 days. She also talked about how getting to see the final visuals of Sucker Punch (in theaters on March 25th) was like seeing the story brought to life for the first time, being part of the ensemble of the Garry Marshall film New Year’s Eve, and playing really strong women on both Entourage and Californication. Showtime Renews CALIFORNICATION for Fifth Season

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: January 14th, 2011 at 2:59 pm

Though the premiere of the fourth season just happened this past Sunday, apparently the debut was impressive enough to warrant Showtime to renew Californication for a fifth season. In the series David Duchovny stars as Hank Moody, a struggling writer who constantly deals with the consequences of his inability to say “no” to drugs, sex and alcohol, while trying to show his family that he can be a good, responsible man. Keep tuning in to Showtime’s fourth season of Californication on Sundays at 9/8c. Any fans happy about the news?

David Duchovny on CALIFORNICATION Season 4

by Sara Wayland    Posted: April 9th, 2010 at 11:38 pm

Earlier today, we were at the press day for The Joneses (which we’ll have more on closer to the April 16th release date), starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny as a seemingly perfect family who moves into a suburban neighborhood and immediately impresses everyone they meet, but who, in reality, are really a fake family, commissioned by a marketing company to introduce new products around the world.

During the interview, Duchovny took some time to give an update on where his Californication character, Hank Moody, will be going in Season 4 of the popular Showtime series, which starts filming on April 19th for a possible September premiere. He also said that he really enjoys getting to work with new guest stars each season, and that the upcoming season promises some great ones. Check out what he had to say after the jump:
