While most everyone’s eyes are on Kathryn Bigelow’s (The Hurt Locker) untitled drama about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, another film about the Navy SEAL team tasked with bringing the terrorist leader down has assembled its cast. Variety reports that Anson Mount (TV’s Hell on Wheels), Cam Gigandet (Twilight), Freddy Rodriguez (Planet Terror), and William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down) are set to star in Code Name: Geronimo. John Stockwell (Turistas) is onboard to direct the actioner from a script by Kendall Lampkin.

Mount plays “an agile and assured member of SEAL Team Six,” and Kathleen Robertson is set as an eager CIA case officer. I’m not entirely sure we need two movies about the hunt for Bin Laden, and Bigelow’s definitely has the edge here. It’s her first film since winning the Best Director and Best Picture Oscar for The Hurt Locker and she’s assembled a very impressive cast (including Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, and Chris Pratt). Bigelow’s film is set to open this December, but Code Name: Geronimo doesn’t seem to have a release date yet. Geronimo is currently filming in New Mexico.

Cam Gigandet is joining the cast of the indie drama Free Ride. Written and directed by Shana Sosin, the indie drama tells the true story of an abused single mother in the 1970s who moves her two daughters to Florida to make a new life for herself. Anna Paquin stars as the mother, and also has a hand behind the scenes as Free Ride marks the first production for her production company SCAMP. Variety reports that Gigandet will play Paquin’s love interest. The film also stars Drea De Matteo (The Sopranos), Liana Liberato (Tresspass), Ava Acres (Five), Jeff Hephner (Hellcats) and Paquin’s fellow True Blood alum Brit Morgan. Paquin is producing alongside Cerise Hallam Larkin, Susan Dynner, and her husband/True Blood star Stephen Moyer. Production is set to begin later this month in Sarasota, Florida. Paquin will go straight into Free Ride after filming Straight A’s with Ryan Phillippe.

Cam Gigandet is already set to take a lead role as Jake Flynn, one of three brothers in the new TNT western drama Gateway (formerly known as Tin Star), but Deadline has word on four more actors joining the cast. Rounding out the group of Flynn brothers living in the titualar Colorado town in the 1880′s will be Keir O’Donnell (Wedding Crashers) playing Terence and David Denman (Roy from The Office) playing Daniel. Meanwhile Shannon Lucio (The Chicago Code) and Eric Lange (Lost) have also been cast as Terence’s wife and the town banker respectively. But my personal favorite bit of new casting comes in the form of Keith Carradine, who was last seen battling extra-terrestrials in the Old West in Cowboys & Aliens, playing the brothers’ surrogate father.

Details on an American remake of the British comedy series Suburban Shootout after the jump.

First Trailer for Joel Schumacher’s TRESPASS Starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman

trespass-movie-poster-slice-01

The first trailer for director Joel Schumacher’s thriller Trespass is now available online. Starring Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, and Cam Gigandet, the film takes place in Kyle and Sarah Miller’s (Cage and Kidman) wealthy estate and centers around a home invasion that puts both of their lives and the life of their daughter (Liano Liberato) in jeopardy. I’m not one to constantly berate Schumacher for his fair share of mishaps, but I can’t help but think there is a reason Trespass is purportedly set to hit DVD and VOD platforms a little more than two weeks after its theatrical release. I can’t say for sure, but I think that reason is found somewhere in the midst of all the yelling the trailer contains.

Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump. Trespass opens to theaters on October 14th before hitting DVD and VOD on November 1st.

Lily Collins and Cam Gigandet Interview PRIEST slice

With director Scott Stewart’s Priest opening this weekend, I recently spoke with the cast and after the jump is my interview with Lily Collins and Cam Gigandet.  Since I had an extended interview with Collins at this year’s WonderCon, and I spoke to Gigandet at Comic-Con last summer, I tried to ask new questions.  We talked about their reaction to seeing the finished film, filming the action scenes, what have their experiences been like at WonderCon and Comic-Con, what’s their karaoke song, and what’s the last video game they’ve played.

Finally, if you’re a Call of Duty player, or just want to play a video game with Gigandet, he revealed his Xbox user name during the interview…hit the jump to watch.

With Screen Gems Priest opening May 13, the studio has sent over four clips from director Scott Stewart’s film that stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, Brad Dourif, Stephen Moyer, and Christopher Plummer.  Here’s the synopsis:

Priest is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi ride, set in an alternate world – one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

Tonight I was able to see some footage from Scott Stewart’s Priest as Screen Gems premiered a few scenes to a number of WonderCon attendees. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the film stars Paul Bettany as a renegade warrior priest who goes on the hunt for his niece who’s been kidnapped by vampires. The 3D film also stars Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, and Lily Collins. Hit the jump for my reaction to the footage.

Minka Kelly Exclusive Video Interview THE ROOMMATE

Minka Kelly Interview THE ROOMMATE slice

In Minka Kelly’s first leading role in Screen Gems The Roommate, she plays a freshman at the fictional University of Los Angeles, whose roommate (Leighton Meester) quickly reveals herself to be a psychopath. The actress, who is mainly known for her work on the television series Friday Night Lights, proves to be a very likeable on-screen presence.

I was fortunate to speak with Kelly last Saturday where we discussed: her excitement at her first leading film role, how filming on two university campuses (Loyola Marymount and USC) gave the film believability, how a final fight scene in the movie was physically and emotionally taxing, and finally her recount of how shooting Friday Night Lights on location gave the cast a focused mentality.  Hit the jump to see the interview.

Cam Gigandet Interview THE ROOMMATE slice

Cam Gigandet has a history of playing the bad guy—Twilight, Never Back Down, and my personal favorite, as “Volchok” on The O.C. In his new film The Roommate, out Friday February 4th, Gigandet plays the heroic drum-playing boyfriend to Minka Kelly’s character, who is being terrorized by her college roommate (played by Leighton Meester).  Gigandet takes a fairly conventional role and legitimately makes his character funny. He and his cast mates manage to make this film actually very entertaining.

As tempted as I was to reminisce about The O.C, I resisted. During the interview we talk about his continued loathing of press junkets, how working with Leighton and Minka allowed the dialogue to feel spontaneous, how Leighton genuinely freaked him out, and lastly how he feels about supporting versus leading roles.  Hit the jump to check out the video.

Leighton Meester Exclusive Video Interview THE ROOMMATE

Leighton Meester Interview THE ROOMMATE slice

I’m of the opinion that Gossip Girl truly works because of  the depth Leighton Meester gives to her character, Blair. She is hilarious as the quick-witted Queen Bee, but then affectingly vulnerable in other scenes. She brings this same duality to each role she plays, and in particular, elevates what’s would be a standard teenage horror flick into a much more character driven movie, in her latest work, The Roommate.

I had the opportunity to briefly talk with her last Saturday after seeing the film the night before. During the interview we talk about: her personal scariest horror movie, her process of relating to her character, how the director crafted fear through what’s not said, what influences her in choosing roles, and lastly what advantages she sees to filming her television show in New York.   The Roommate, co-starring Minka Kelly and Cam Gigandet and directed by Christian Christensen, is in theatres this Friday, February 4th.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.

3 Movie Clips and a Featurette for THE ROOMMATE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 30th, 2011 at 5:12 pm

THE ROOMMATE slice

Opening this Friday is Screen Gems psychological thriller The Roommate.  Starring Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet, Aly Michalka, Danneel Harris, Frances Fisher, and Billy Zane, the movie is about a deranged college freshman (Meester) who becomes obsessed with her new roommate (Kelly).  Over the next few days, we’ll be posting video interviews with the cast, but until then, we’ve got three clips and a new featurette.  Hit the jump to check them out.

New Trailer for PRIEST Starring Paul Bettany

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 11th, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Someone please put Paul Bettany in better movies.  The new trailer for Priest has gone online and I have little faith in this movie.  While I like the idea of a futuristic vampire western, this film, which re-teams Bettany with his Legion director Scott Charles Stewart, appears to go overboard on crappy CGI and po-faced self-importance.  Someone please explain to me why a film where a guy throws a bunch of crucifix shurikens is trying to be deadly serious.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, which features some unintentional laughs but very little joy.  Priest also stars Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, and Lily Collins.  It opens in 3D on May 13th.

Cam Gigandet Interview BURLESQUE

by Christina Radish    Posted: November 18th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

In the new musical Burlesque, opening over the Thanksgiving holiday, Cam Gigandet portrays Jack, the confidante of small-town girl Ali Rose (Christina Aguilera), who has come to the big city in the pursuit of her dream to be a singing star. A fellow musician, Jack is shy about his own songwriting as he encourages Ali to take her rightful place on the stage.

The two have an undeniable and playful chemistry, that allowed them to have fun both on screen and off, even for their more intimate moments. During a recent interview at the film’s press day, the Twilight star talked about meeting and working with Cher and Christina Aguilera, doing on screen nudity and surviving L.A. when he first moved to town. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

The leading ladies were joined by co-stars Julianne Hough, Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane and Peter Gallagher, along with writer/director Steven Antin, Will Ferrell, Ryan Seacrest, James Marsden, AnnaLynne McCord and Rebecca Gayheart. She has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, achieved four #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, won five Grammy Awards, had three top five albums in the United States and is the only artist under 30 to make Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 greatest singers of all time. Now, superstar singer Christina Aguilera is making her feature film debut in the big screen musical Burlesque, starring opposite musical icon Cher.

Ali Rose (Aguilera) is a small-town girl with a big voice and big dreams. When she leaves her life behind and moves to Los Angeles, the wide-eyed young woman stumbles upon The Burlesque Lounge and immediately becomes determined to bring her own singing and dancing talents to its musical revue. Clearly meant to be on a stage, Ali quickly makes friends and enemies among the other girls at the club, wins the affection of the bartender (Cam Gigandet), comes to the attention of a charismatic entrepreneur (Eric Dane) and is taken under the wing of the club’s glamorous owner, Tess (Cher), changing her life forever.

At the film’s press day, Christina Aguilera talked about how heavily involved she was with everything from developing the character and approving the revealing wardrobe to writing the songs and performing the musical numbers. She also spoke of the priceless advice she got from Cher and revealed how much she’s looking forward to the next chapter of her life, now that she’s turning 30 in December.
