When Disney took the stage for their CinemaCon 2012 presentation yesterday afternoon, they didn’t mess around. Loaded with footage, movie stars, filmmakers and information, the presentation was definitely aimed at letting exhibitors around the world know that the Disney umbrella (which now includes Pixar, Marvel, Walt Disney films, and distributing DreamWorks live-action films) is loaded with a lot of big properties and they have no intention of slowing down. While some of the upcoming properties just had the stars and filmmakers talking about the movie (The Lone Ranger), others like Frankenweenie had Tim Burton on stage with Sean Bailey (President of Production at Disney) talking about why he wanted to make a stop-motion black and white movie, followed by the screening of a full scene.
In addition to what I just mentioned, Kevin Fiege from Marvel talked about Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, Thor 2, and The Avengers. Pixar’s John Lasseter talked about their next four years of movies including director Lee Unkrich‘s untitled Dia de los Muertos movie, Bob Peterson‘s The Good Dinosaur, Pete Docter‘s untitled movie, Monsters University (including world premieriing the teaser trailer) and a clip of Finding Nemo in 3D and the first 30 minutes of Brave. More after the jump.

With Marvel and Disney’s The Avengers opening around the world in the coming weeks, last night was the world premiere in Hollywood and it was also the first time members of the press were shown the film. As you may have already read on my Twitter feed, I loved it and think Joss Whedon delivered a movie that both fans and casual moviegoers are going to love. Also, it’s really funny and it has the best action of any Marvel movie thus far.
Anyway, just an hour ago I got to sit down with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Since I already posted an in depth conversation with him when I visited the set of The Avengers last year, I decided to use my limited time to discuss Marvel’s future projects like Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, the Avengers sequel and whether Joss Whedon is signed to come back, what movies are coming in 2014 and 2015, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, if Marvel is making an animated movie, another Hulk movie, and so much more. Hit the jump for more.

And then there were two (technically three). A couple weeks ago, we reported that the frontrunners to direct Captain America 2 were F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), and television directors Anthony and Joseph Russo (Community). Today, Deadline reports that Gray has dropped out of the race to focus on helming the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton. Gray doesn’t officially have the Compton job, but Deadline says it’s likely he’ll get the gig. No offense to NWA fans, but I’m glad Gray is no longer in the running for Captain America 2. He was the least interesting of the frontrunners since he’s more of a journeyman director. While Nolfi has only directed one feature film, and the Russos have directed none, they’re wild cards, and I don’t know what to expect either way. [Correction: The Russos previously directed Welcome to Collinwood and You, Me & Dupree]
Captain America 2 is set for release on April 4, 2014. The movie will pick up where The Avengers leaves off.

Disney and Marvel Studios have scheduled Captain America 2 (tentative title) for April 4, 2014. As you may recall, the studios had previously scheduled the April 4th date for “Untitled Marvel 1″. Now that date belongs to Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) post-Avengers adventure. The movie is still looking for a director, and the current frontrunners are F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), and television directors Anthony and Joseph Russo (Community). It’s worth noting that with a 2014 release date, Captain America 2 probably won’t start shooting until late 2012 at the earliest.

We’re nearing the date on which we finally get to see The Avengers on the big screen, but Marvel is already busy making plans for their post-Avengers slate. Iron Man 3 begins production in the next few months, followed shortly by Thor 2, and now the studio has whittled down their director shortlist for Captain America 2 to just three names: F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), and television directors Anthony and Joseph Russo. As Marvel’s The Avengers opens in a few short months, it’s time to look forward to the studio’s development slate after the all-star superhero movie. We already know that Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 are the next to go into production, as they’ve (finally) attached a director and a new screenwriter to the former, and the latter has Shane Black in the director’s chair. For now, the release schedule looks like this:
While the untitled Marvel films have yet to be unveiled, we now might have an idea of what at least one of the films may be, as it looks like Captain America 2 may be going into production by the end of the year. Hit the jump for more.

Chris Evans is making the rounds to promote his new legal thriller Puncture, but the next several years of interviews will be filled with Captain America questions for the young actor. Thankfully, Evans is candid and willing to field said questions. In a recent interview, Evans revealed what he’s heard about Marvel’s plans for the release of Captain America 2:
“They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films.”
Makes sense. Marvel already has two releases in summer 2013: Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013 and Thor 2 on July 26, 2013. Two releases is a nice meal; three is cannibalism. Marvel has staked out May 6, 2014 and June 27, 2014—Captain America 2 will likely take one of those. The other date could go to a spinoff for Hawkeye, Black Widow, S.H.I.E.L.D.; to new characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Strange; or maybe a sequel to The Avengers.
Hit the jump for more from Evans on his multi-picture deal at Marvel and Joss Whedon’s influence on the new Captain America costume in The Avengers.

Puncture is a David and Goliath law drama based on the true story of a drug-addicted lawyer who took on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons. Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young lawyer and functioning drug addict who meets Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), an ER nurse pricked by a needle contaminated with HIV while on the job. As Weiss digs deeper into the case with his longtime friend and partner, Paul Danziger (co-director Mark Kassen), they uncover a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy and the mounting pressure of the case pushes their business and their friendship to the breaking point.
During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Chris Evans talked about how the range of this character was what attracted him to the role, the importance of showing both the brilliance of this guy and how vile he could be, and the experience of working with co-directors, one of whom was also his co-star. He also talked about his current work as Captain America in The Avengers, what it’s like to shoot on the streets of New York with all of the chaotic attention they get, and that there’s no official word yet on when Captain America 2 will start shooting. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Earlier today, Collider got the opportunity to speak with Chris Evans by phone, on behalf of his new drama Puncture (opening in theaters on September 23rd). The film centers on a talented young Houston lawyer and functioning drug addict (played by Evans) who decides to take on a case that reveals a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy that could cost the lives of health care workers and nurses throughout the country.
While we’ll run that portion of the interview next week, we did want to let you know what he had to say about his current work as Captain America in The Avengers, what it’s like to shoot on the streets of New York with all of the chaotic attention they get, that there’s no official word yet on when Captain America 2 will start shooting, and how he currently has so much on his plate that he’s just trying to live moment-to-moment. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

With Captain America: The First Avenger arriving in theaters next weekend, I spent most of yesterday interviewing the cast and filmmakers. As I said in the intro to my Chris Evans interview, I absolutely loved this movie and think everyone involved did an amazing job bringing Captain America to life. Trust me, if you were nervous about Chris Evans as Cap, or that Marvel couldn’t make a period piece, you’re going to be blown away next weekend.
Of course no movie can work without a great script, so credit needs to be given to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. And I’m not alone in thinking their script was solid, as a few months ago we reported they’d been hired to write the sequel. So when I sat down with them for an exclusive interview yesterday, they talked about how they got the job, how much input did they have in the story or did Marvel come up with the major plot points, the Easter Eggs, the challenge of making the movie fit into the Marvel universe, and we spent a ton of time discussing the sequel. Hit the jump to watch.

We’ve got some Captain America news for you today. As with most Marvel movies, Captain America: The First Avenger will be getting a sequel. We learned back in February that The First Avenger scribes Stephen McFeeley and Christopher Markus had been tapped to start work on the screenplay for a sequel. Well now, even though the first film hasn’t even hit theaters yet, McFeeley recently spoke a bit about the follow-up, saying that they’re working on how to incorporate more period material into the sequel.
Hit the jump to see what he said, and to check out a new featurette from the film. Starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters July 22nd in 3D.

Not long ago, once Marvel Studios had proved itself as a major player in the summer tentpole game, a slate was released for all of the upcoming films from the new studio. Fans relished the thought of seeing Thor, Captain America and The Avengers on the big screen. Well, after this summer only one new film on that slate will be left (The Avengers) and audiences are left wondering: what will Marvel do next? Thankfully, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently talked about the future of the studio and what flicks are on the horizon.
In addition to confirming sequels for Thor and Captain America (set in modern-day, no less) he discussed possible spinoffs for Black Widow, Hawkeye and S.H.I.E.L.D as well as the long-talked-about Dr. Strange movie. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.
