We got our first look at Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier set photos here and here.  Our best look at both the character and his bionic arm comes in today’s new set photo.  In the comics, the Russians find Captain America’s sidekick Bucky Barnes (believed to be dead) missing his left arm and his memory.  They give Bucky a bionic arm and program him to be a badass assassin with the code name Winter Soldier—so you see why Marvel wants to feature the villain as soon as possible.

A new batch of images from the Cleveland set of Marvel’s sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier has made its way online.  We recently got our first look at the villainous Winter Soldier and his bionic arm in another set of images, but this new photo grouping highlights the titular baddie facing off against Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.  There’s no shield to be found here, so it looks like Cap will have to go it alone using only his fighting skills in this particular sequence.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Captain America comics, the Winter Soldier is a popular character created by writer Ed Brubaker.  Brubaker took Cap’s long-dead sidekick Bucky Barnes, said he was actually in cold-storage, and then programmed by the Russians to be an assassin.  The Winter Soldier (played by Sebastian Stan) is a popular character, so it’s not too surprising that Marvel decided to make him the focal point of the upcoming Captain America sequel.  A piece of concept art showed that directors Joe and Anthony Russo were sticking close to the design from the comics, and now the first set photos have followed-up on that design complete with long hair and bionic-arm.  While I’m sure any exterior filming will keep leaking these minor shots of the character, I assume that if Marvel is going to Comic-Con this year, they’ll bring the first official look at The Winter Soldier.

Today, we’ve already seen set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now we’ve got some more from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  The upcoming sequel sees Captain America (Chris Evans) teaming up with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to track down the nefarious Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).  Filming is underway in Cleveland, which is standing in for Washington, D.C. and the scene has S.W.A.T. and police involved in a shootout of some kind.  The photos also show us Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) wandering around, but these images don’t hint at how the character is involved in the scene.

[This is a re-post of my interview from the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.  While I rarely re-post interviews, this was one of my favorite interviews of 2012 and with the movie now playing in limited release, I decided it was worth another post.]

Every once in awhile you land an interview that you can’t wait to share. The one you’re about to watch with Chris Evans is one of those. At this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, I got to sit down with Evans for over twenty minutes (we were scheduled for a lot less) to talk about his great work in director Ariel Vromen‘s The Iceman. As you can see in the trailer, Evans plays a killer and is nearly unrecognizable in dirty long hair as Richard Kuklinski’s (Michael Shannon) friend and partner.

I’ve spoken to Evans a lot over the years, and one of the things I love about him is his honesty and willingness to talk about everything. If you ask him a question about his career, or even his contract with Marvel, he’ll talk about it. Most actors will try and deflect the question, or give a politician’s answer. That’s not how Evans operates and it’s very refreshing. So besides talking about The Iceman and working with Michael Shannon, Evans talked about how his career has blown up, the intricacies of his Marvel contract, the business of Hollywood, playing a critical character of the Marvel universe, Captain America 2 (Captain America: The Winter Solider), whether he knows anything about Captain America 3, the success of The Avengers, Joss Whedon, Thor 2, Bong Joon-ho‘s Snowpiercer, the greatness of Hayley Atwell, his upcoming anti-romantic comedy A Many Splintered Thing with Michelle Monaghan, and so much more. The wait is almost over for Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, which debuts in the States on Friday, May 3rd.  However, if you’re looking ahead to the rest of Marvel’s Phase Two slate of films, we’ve got a few nibbles of information to pique your interest.  Since there’s currently no Iron Man 4 on Marvel’s lineup, it’s looking like Robert Downey Jr.’s next appearance as the armored Avenger will be in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2.  But who else will be joining him?

More new images from the set of the Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier have surfaced online, this time giving us a look at Anthony Mackie in costume as Falcon.  While the character isn’t sporting wings in these particular photos, he does appear to be strung up on some sort of wire apparatus against a green screen, so the wings will likely be added in post-production.  Nevertheless, Mackie gives his best “I mean business” face while firing off a few rounds from his handguns.

Filming is underway on Joe and Anthony Russo‘s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  The upcoming sequel sees Captain America (Chris Evans) teaming up with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to track down the nefarious Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).  We saw the first set photos a couple weeks ago, and these new ones show Cap and Black Widow in their civilian outfits, but still on a mission, or at least hopefully on a mission.  I’m not comfortable with the idea of Steve Rogers going around during his downtime and randomly seizing people by their lapels.

As we move into Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this shared superhero world is starting to be fleshed out a bit more now that the principal characters have some experience working together in The Avengers.  While fans are excited to see how Tony Stark, Thor, Steve Rogers, etc. will be interacting in future films, there’s also the possibility of supporting characters from the standalone Marvel pics crossing over.  One of the most likely cases is that of Don Cheadle’s Jim Rhodes from the Iron Man films, as it looks like his alter ego War Machine will be getting a significant amount of screentime in the upcoming sequel.

Steve recently spoke with Cheadle in anticipation of the release of Iron Man 3, and the actor talked briefly about the prospect of him appearing in The Avengers 2 or Captain America: The Winter Soldier, noting that “conversations have been happening” with regards to the Avengers sequel.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Production is currently underway on Marvel’s Captain America sequel, and though initially it was thought that Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter—who played a major role in the first film—wouldn’t be appearing in The Winter Soldier, we subsequently learned that Atwell will indeed be popping up in the follow-up.  As The Winter Soldier takes place in the present, one assumes that Atwell will likely be relegated to flashback sequences or will be covered in old age makeup.  Either way, it doesn’t sound like Peggy Carter will be a major character in the film.

Atwell recently spoke a bit about Captain America and its sequel, revealing that Marvel has something planned for Comic-Con that will show “what Peggy’s really capable of.”  The actress also addressed the online campaign for her to star in the Tomb Raider reboot.  Hit the jump to see what she had to say.

Anthony Mackie‘s career has hit a meteoric rise since his breakthrough role in The Hurt Locker, and rightfully so.  He’s a terrific actor, and he’ll be playing his biggest role yet in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Mackie plays Falcon, a flying superhero who assists Captain America (Chris Evans), but like with most Marvel movies, details on the character are being kept tightly under wraps.

Marvel’s run of Phase One films culminated with the smashing success of last year’s The Avengers, and while Phase Two is gearing up to kick off next month with the release of Iron Man 3, there are a couple of Marvel veterans who have their hands creatively in more than one upcoming film.  Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the script for Captain America: The First Avenger, and while they were enlisted to pen the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the duo also worked on the screenplay for this November’s Thor: The Dark World.

Steve recently spoke with Markus and McFeely in anticipation of director Michael Bay’s upcoming black comedy Pain & Gain (which they wrote), and during the course of their conversation the two talked extensively about their work on Captain America 2, Thor 2, and Marvel films in general.  Hit the jump to see what they had to say about Easter Eggs, Black Widow’s presence in Cap 2, the amount of flashbacks we can expect, planning for Phase Three, and much, much more.

Marvel has sent out a press release announcing that filming has begun on Joe and Anthony Russo‘s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Few details about the film are known, but the press release provides a brief yet informative logline: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”  That’s a lot of new information, including the large role for Black Widow, and the setting, although we know there will be flashbacks to World War II.  Also, for those who don’t know, the “shadowy enemy” is the eponymous Winter Soldier, a.k.a. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).  The press release also confirms our earlier report that Hayley Atwell will return to play Peggy Carter.
