If action movies of the 80s and 90s are my religion, then The Expendables 2 just gave me my last rites.  Lionsgate is letting us premiere a new poster that features the entire kick-ass cast assembled along one of the most famous tables in artistic history.  While scholars have deciphered Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” for centuries, the companion image from The Expendables 2 is more my style, complete with guns, skulls and plenty of booze.

Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan star in the sequel to Stallone’s bone-breaking 2010 original film.  Directed by Simon West, The Expendables 2 opens August 17th.  Hit the jump to see the exclusive poster.

Do you love America?  Do you love guns, explosions, muscles, action, tanks, explosions, violence, fighting and explosions?  If you do, then you’re a lot like me, pal.  And we’ve got mutual friends in The Monocular Group, who have put this awesome fan trailer together for The Expendables 2.  They’re also here to remind us that long before a bunch of gussied-up prima donnas assembled to fight evil, there were men to handle our problems: big, strong men with powerful guns and boots on the ground.  In a summer dominated by superhero fare, let us not forget the men that built the foundation of the action movie.  These men include Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. When the ABC Family drama series The Lying Game returns on January 2^nd, actress Charisma Carpenter (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be a recurring guest star as Char’s (Kirsten Prout) aunt, Anne Rebecca Sewell, who has come back to town after years of being estranged from her family. Having overcome being the girl who was treated poorly in high school, she wants a fresh start after her split from her husband, and returns with a confidence and success that makes a lot of people uncomfortable.

During a recent interview to promote her appearance on the popular show, Charisma Carpenter talked about her desire to find a home on a television series, that she hadn’t been familiar with the series prior to being cast but quickly caught up on episodes, the similarities between her character on The Lying Game and Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that working on the show is one of the best experiences she’s had, and how, although she’s been given ideas for where her storyline is going, she’s specifically asked not to have all of the details. She also talked about how her heart is in television but that she would also love to do more film, how doing a remake of Buffy without Joss Whedon could do more harm to the franchise then good, working with Danny Trejo on Haunted High, reuniting with James Marsters for an episode of Supernatural, and how she would love to do an episode of Bones with her Angel co-star David Boreanaz. Two worlds of superfans are on the verge of collision as Buffy the Vampire Slayer series alums Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters will both guest star in the fifth episode of the seventh season of Supernatural. The episode, titled “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” will see the two playing husband and wife but obviously with a supernatural twist. Carpenter will play a witch on a rampage after Marsters’ character wrongs her in some way. Showrunner Sera Gamble describes their dynamic rather dramatically to TV Line:

“This episode is Bewitched gone wrong. [It was] all upside for this successful man while he was married to the witch, but now that he’s pissed her off, the whole town is paying the price.”

Sounds like it should be quite a fun reunion for Buffy fans, and a bit of a role reversal for the stars since Marsters played a vampire on the series, while Carpenter played a slayer. The new season of Supernatural starts Friday, September 23rd.
