Director Guillermo del Toro finally has a new directorial feature film set for release next year. He spent quite a while preparing to direct The Hobbit before leaving when he thought the film would be held up in MGM’s legal troubles for years, then he started prepping At the Mountains of Madness with Tom Cruise only to have Universal pass on the project in favor of things like Battleship. All’s well that end’s well, as del Toro recently wrapped his first directorial effort since Hellboy II: The Golden Army, a monster movie called Pacific Rim.
Little details have been known about the plot for Pacific Rim other than the fact that del Toro promises “the finest fucking monsters ever committed to screen” and the film involves battles between human-manned robots and monsters. A rumored plot synopsis surfaced back in March of 2011, and now Warner Bros. has released an official synopsis for the film that seems to confirm much of that earlier premise. Hit the jump for the full synopsis.

To premiere a scene from Season 4, showcasing the gang’s release from a 14-month prison stint following the aftermath of last season’s finale, the hit FX drama Sons of Anarchy got to make their Hall H debut at Comic-Con. Prior to the panel, co-stars Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman sat down for a roundtable with some press to hint at what fans can expect for the upcoming season.
During the interview, the actors explained how Charming is a very different place with a new mayor and sheriff, how that will affect SAMCRO and their vision for their town, that 14 months of prison has brought Jax and Clay closer together, that Jax (Hunnam) will struggle with whether or not to stay in the club while Clay (Perlman) will do everything with a greater sense of urgency and desperation, and how Season 4 will focus on the internal world of the Sons. Hunnam also talked about what led him to sign on for the sci-fi film Pacific Rim (due in 2013), how he thinks Guillermo del Toro is one of the best filmmakers in the world, and how lucky it was that the film will shoot during hiatus for the show. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Yesterday, we showed you the first look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games. Today, two more images of Lawrence in Katniss garb have gone online along with a new look at Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in 21 Jump Street as well as a couple images from the indie crime thriller Blackbird, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Olivia Wilde, and Eric Bana.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012. 21 Jump Street is set for March 16, 2012. No release date has been announced for Blackbird.

We have a couple of casting stories to send your way tonight. First up, Charlie Hunnam (FX’s Sons of Anarchy) has landed the starring role in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Heat Vision reports that details regarding Hunnam’s role are under wraps but speculates that the turn may be as a pilot of a mecha (from the Japanese genre which involves humans manning “robotic constructs”) that “needs to climb back into the driver’s chair.” You may remember that the director decided to pursue Pacific Rim as his next project shortly after Universal failed to greenlight his R-rated take on At the Mountains of Madness. Back in March, we filled you in on some of the film’s potential plot elements and described the project as a monster-pic that takes place in “two worlds.” Hunnam’s casting reiterates that synopsis and describes Pacific Rim as “monster movie that sees powerful extraterrestrial aliens threaten the Earth’s existence, attacking cities and nations neighboring the Pacific Ocean.”

New posters have been released for the Sundance films Buck, The Art of Getting By (formerly titled Homework), and The Ledge. There’s also a new poster for the Anna Faris romantic comedy What’s Your Number? Hit the jump to check out the posters along with a synopsis for each film and its release date.

The theatrical trailer for writer/director Matthew Chapman’s The Ledge has landed online. Starring Liv Tyler, Patrick Wilson, Charlie Hunnam, and Terrence Howard, the thriller screened at Sundance earlier this year and takes place as a man (Hunnam) threatens to jump from the ledge of a building. As the story goes, it becomes clear that the threat stems from a romantic and ideological dispute between Hunnam and Wilson’s characters.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer for yourself. For my part, I think the cut gives away a little too much regarding Hunnam’s purpose on the ledge. Nevertheless, the film looks to have plenty of drama and Wilson seems to be in a similarly crazy role to his turn in 2005′s Hard Candy (which I see as a plus). The Ledge is scheduled to hit theaters stateside on June 29th.

We have a couple of quick casting stories for you this morning. First up, Jimmi Simpson (Date Night) has joined the cast of Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter . Variety reports that Simpson will be playing Lincoln’s right-hand man. While I’m sure he’ll do a fine job assisting Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) in his political/vampire-slaying duties, I’ll continue to struggle seeing Simpson as anyone other than the creepy McPoyle brother he plays on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter also stars Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Shooting is expected to begin next month. The film is due out in 3D on June 22, 2012. Hit the jump for news on Kate Mara and Treat Williams joining Blackbird.

Eric Bana (The Time Traveler’s Wife), Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy) and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) are in talks to star in KIN. Per Variety, the crime thriller follows “two desperate sibling fugitives (Bana and Wilde) on the run who subsequently collide with the holiday homecoming of a troubled ex-boxer (Hunnam).” Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) will direct from a script by Zach Dean; filming begins this March in Canada.
I really like this cast (assuming they sign on). I’ve been 30% more interested in Bana’s career since Funny People. Hunnam pulled a reverse Bana, now officially beyond being known as “the charming Brit on Undeclared.” And Wilde has been the most interesting actor on House not named Hugh Laurie for a few seasons now, not to mention the go-to twentysomething for the sci-fi films of the next couple years: Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens, Now. Let’s do this, Oscar winner Stefan Ruzowitzky.

Continuing our coverage of images from films that will be featured at January’s Sundance Film Festival, we bring you images from two of the higher profile dramas that will be screened in-competition at the festival: The Ledge and Like Crazy. The Ledge stars Liv Tyler, Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Patrick Wilson, and Terrence Howard. The film centers on a man (Hunnam) threatening to jump from the ledge of a building by noon, and the people down below who are trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on.
Like Crazy tells the story of a long distance relationship between a young American guy and a young British girl. The film features Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Felicity Jones (The Tempest), and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone). Hit the jump to check out images and a brief synopsis for each films. The 2011 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 20 -30th.

Actress Maggie Siff has been making a name for herself with memorable roles in film, television and theater. She had a series regular role on the first season of Mad Men, had recurring roles on Nip/Tuck and Life on Mars, did guest roles on Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order, and appeared in the feature films Push, Funny People and Leaves of Grass.
Now, she can be seen on the popular FX drama Sons of Anarchy as Dr. Tara Knowles, high school sweetheart of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), who left Charming to get more out of life, but returned, still in love with Jax and now more entrenched than ever in his world. During this exclusive interview with Collider, Maggie Siff talked about the journey that her character has been on since Season 1, how the events of the finale will affect things this season and getting to work with Stephen King, who guest stars in an upcoming episode. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

The FX Network drama Sons of Anarchy tells the story of Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), SAMCRO’s Vice-President and the son of John Teller, founder of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club. His mother, Gemma (Katey Sagal), is married to SAMCRO President Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman), whom she married after the death of her first husband, Jax’s father.
Just when viewers thought things couldn’t get more emotional than last season’s horrific gang rape of Gemma, the finale saw her framed for murder and on the lam, and Jax’s infant son kidnapped by a member of the IRA. The highly anticipated third season, premiering on September 7th, picks up with the Sons reeling from the aftermath and Jax in deep turmoil over his future with the club.
During a recent interview, co-stars Charlie Hunnam and Katey Sagal talked about the intense emotions of Season 3, expanding the story internationally, and getting to live and work in a world that is dark and dangerous, but ultimately about the strength of family. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

After The Shield ended at FX, executive producer/writer/director Kurt Sutter decided to continue his relationship with the network, when he created the hit drama Sons of Anarchy. Exploring a notorious outlaw motorcycle club’s desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, Calif. stays just the way it is, they have spent the last two seasons confronting threats from drug dealers, corporate developers, overzealous law officers and even a very dangerous white supremacist.
Last season’s finale saw Abel, the infant son of the club’s Vice President, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) kidnapped, leaving him feeling powerless and sending him into deeper turmoil over his future with the club. In the highly anticipated Season 3, his search will send the club as far as Ireland, where Jax faces not only the Irish Republican Army, but his own personal history as well.
During a recent interview, show creator Kurt Sutter talked about the dual storylines in Charming and Belfast, gave hints about what fans can expect from this season’s even more personal struggle and journey, revealed some of the great guest stars and that he has a definite idea for what the last 10 or 11 episodes of the series will look like, whenever that time comes. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

On the FX Network drama Sons of Anarchy, actor Ron Perlman plays Clarence “Clay” Morrow, SAMCRO’s ruthless president, one of its founding members and step-father to Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), with whom he often has a volatile relationship. In Season 3, all personal issues will be put aside, as every member of the motorcycle club puts their focus on finding Abel, Jax’s infant son who was kidnapped at the end of last season. A family drama at its heart, this deeply emotional journey cannot end well for those responsible.
During a recent interview, Ron Perlman talked about playing an anti-hero, bringing the humanity out in his often unlikeable character and how he enjoy exploring a character over the course of a series. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

As cliffhangers go, fans of the show will remember, the ending of season two of FX’s Sons of Anarchy was a real doozy.
With the SAMCRO crew watching from the end of the dock, “Irish” absconded with Jax’s (Charlie Hunnam) baby Abel, while simultaneously, Gemma (Katey Sagal, yes, really) had been framed for two murders by agent Stahl (Ally Walker) and was on the lam with Police Chief Unser (Dayton Callie). Got all that? Hit the jump to find out what’s in store next for the motorcycle club with, if not quite a heart of gold, at least an odd sense of justice that makes the show extremely watchable.
