Opening today is “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”. The movie is directed by Paul Weitz and it’s an adaptation of “The Saga of Darren Shan”, a very popular book series by Darren Shan. Since the movie couldn’t combine all twelve books, they’ve taken the first three and used that as the story. Obviously if the film is successful, they’ll use the rest of the series to make more movies.

Anyway, Universal recently held a press day and I was able to speak with Chris Massoglia. We talked about what the promotional process has been like for him, is he into social networking, working with John C. Reilly, filming in Louisiana, plus he talks about what he has coming up. CIRQUE DU FREAK – THE VAMPIRE’S ASSISTANT Review

I can’t remember the last time I saw a film as entitled and oblivious as “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”.  I can name plenty of films which thought they were going to kick-start a franchise never one that didn’t understand that the first movie has to stand on its own and not rely on movies that don’t (and probably will never) exist.  This entitlement poisons the pacing and retards any character development. In addition, the movie is made worse by director Paul Weitz ignoring the artistic advantages of his setting in favor of flashy, heartless CG effects.  If not for the brilliant John C. Reilly, “Cirque du Freak” would deserve to be burned to the ground by angry townsfolk.

At last night’s 2009 Scream Awards in Hollywood, I managed to interview tons of people on the red carpet. Unfortunately, some of the interviews were kind of short. So instead of posting them individually, I’ve grouped them together and after the jump you can watch Eli Roth, Jamie King and Chris Massoglia.

Eli Roth talked about how he just joined Twitter and I asked him if he’s finally decided on his next project. Jamie King talked about “Mother’s Day” and how she’s writing a blog on the L.A. Times website. And Chris Massoglia revealed that he’s in Zac Efron’s “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” and he plays a small but important part towards the end of the movie. Opening October 23rd is “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant”. The movie is helmed by Paul Weitz and it’s his adaptation of “The Saga of Darren Shan”, a very popular book series by Darren Shan. Since the movie couldn’t combine all twelve books, they’ve taken the first three and used that as the story. Obviously if the film is successful, they’ll use the rest of the series to make more movies. Anyway, Universal has given us 8 clips from the film and a featurette called “A Look Inside” and they’re after the jump. I’ve also posted the synopsis for those not familiar with the books.

When Joe Dante (“Gremlins”, “Piranha”, “The Howling”) said he was going to direct “The Hole”, you could feel the positive energy from every horror fan. And with the film premiering at the Toronto Film Festival next month, they’re that much closer to seeing it for themselves. But while fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the film, I’ve got a few new images from “The Hole” and they’re after the jump – along with the synopsis:

Trailer and Poster for CIRQUE DU FREAK: THE VAMPIRE’S APPRENTICE

Recently, the upcoming fantasy-adventure flick “Cirque du Freak” starring John C. Reilly, Salma Hayek, and Chris Massoglia, had its title changed to “The Vampire’s Apprentice”.  I thought the new title was a little dull but since there appears to be a never-ending string of vampire flicks out there, I guess they need apprentices to learn the vampire trade and sort their mail.  But Universal has now reached a compromise with “Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Apprentice” which is now the first installment in the “Cirque du Freak” SAGA (vampires need sagas; they’re deep and tortured creatures).

With all that in mind, the marketing campaign for the film begins in earnest with both a trailer and a poster for the upcoming flick.  Hit the jump to check them out along with a couple new photos.  “Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assitant” hits theaters on October 23rd.
