With news on The Dark Knight Rises relatively slow at the moment, we’ve scoured the net to see what Batman fans and related entities are up to. Recently we brought you images of some pretty realistic toys for The Dark Knight Rises. Now we have some hi-res shots of those toys for you to check out. Though for some people, that’s not enough. Some people have to make their own figures . And some go a step further and craft their own credit sequence to the movie itself. Bat-fan Dogan Can Gundogdu has crafted a meticulous opening sequence for The Dark Knight Rises that gives us a taste of what the film would look like if David Fincher was the director. Hit the jump to check out the toys and the credits.

A little over a week ago, a curious little documentary was announced called Side by Side. The project, spearheaded by Keanu Reeves, features interviews with a number of master filmmakers regarding the film vs. digital debate. Now the first trailer for the film has popped up and Side by Side is officially one of my most anticipated movies of 2012. The trailer showcases Reeves having candid conversations about the death of film (and the advent of 3D) with people like George Lucas, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, and Steven Soderbergh. It looks incredibly intriguing, and I can’t wait to hear today’s foremost filmmakers weigh in on the future of moviemaking.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Side by Side will be released sometime this year.

We’re about six months away from the fanatically anticipated final act in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. Have your tickets yet or did you miss out? In the meantime, we have a quick look at Batman (Christian Bale) in his new Batsuit, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly’s annual forecast issue. We’ve also got some choice quotes from Nolan about his thoughts on the final film and the trilogy overall. We’ll save the somewhat spoilery comments for after the jump, but for now, here’s what Bale had to say about rising to the demands of Batman’s adoring public on this last film:
“I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.”
The Dark Knight Rises also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine and opens July 20, 2012. Hit the jump for more.

A curious little website has popped up announcing a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves that tackles one of the foremost issues facing filmmakers today: the advent of digital filmmaking. Entitled Side by Side, the documentary takes an in-depth look at the issue of film vs. digital, and “examines all aspects of filmmaking – from capture, to edit, to visual effects, to color correction, to distribution to archive.” Through interviews with numerous well-respected masters of the medium, Side by Side “explores what has been gained, what is lost and what the future might bring.” Take this sample quote from Christopher Nolan:
“No credible source really has been claiming to have invented something that is aesthetically superior to film at this point.”
The documentary will feature Reeves interviewing filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Lana and Andy Wachowski, George Lucas, James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh, and many more. Hit the jump for more details.

Steve here. The other day we posted a story concerning the audio mix on the IMAX prologue of The Dark Knight Rises. After speaking with Warner Bros. and IMAX, it appears our story was wrong and I’ve taken down the article as a result of my conversations. While I could have just deleted the article, I feel it’s important to own up to your mistakes rather than just forget about them. I’m sorry for any confusion.

Warner Bros. has released a few new images from director Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises that feature Tom Hardy as Bane, Batman and a new weapon, and Nolan with an IMAX camera. While some of the images were already featured in this month’s Empire magazine, this is our first look at high resolution versions, and the image of Nolan with the IMAX camera is new.
Like most of you, I’m beyond excited for the final Nolan Batman movie and ecstatic that between 40 and 50 minutes will be in IMAX. If you have the opportunity to see The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue before showings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, do it. It’s absolutely worth the extra money and you’ll wish the entire movie was being released in the large screen format. Hit the jump for the new images.

Yesterday, Batman fans were falling over themselves to praise the new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. There was plenty to like, but there was some agreement that the weakest aspect was trying to make out what Bane (Tom Hardy) was saying. The same complaint was lodged against the six-minute prologue, but it didn’t seem like it would be a big deal to fix the problem. Presumably, Christopher Nolan would hear the outcry, rework the ADR for Bane’s voice, and everyone would be happy. Unfortunately, THR is reporting that Nolan is pretty okay with the current sound mix. Sources at Warner Bros. say that the studio would like for Nolan to clarify the villain’s dialogue, but Nolan is using his independence “to alter the sound slightly, not to rework it completely.” Nolan voiced a similar opinion following the premiere of the six-minute prologue when he told THR “that it was OK for a moviegoer not to understand what was said at times, as long as the overall idea was conveyed.”
It may be okay, but it’s also irritating and unintentionally comic. Hit the jump for more. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

The trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has gone online. The trailer is full of ominous warning. Both Batman and Gordon brought peace to Gotham, but it looks like that has only served to massive destruction and Catwoman warnings. There’s plenty to like in the trailer: the set design, the tone, the chanting, and how the frame is packed with action. But there’s one shot that had me cracking up and it’s the destruction of the football field. I watch that and all I can think is, “Bane just seriously fucked over my fantasy football team.”

The Dark Knight Rises marketing campaign has kicked into high gear. Last week a group of journalists (including Steve) got a peek at the six-minute IMAX prologue from the film, which you can read about spoiler-free here. Then a swell new teaser poster featuring Bane and a chilling tagline was released. Now an extensive interview with director Christopher Nolan has hit the web.
The director talks about the emotional final days on set (given that this is the final film in his trilogy), the ambition of shooting a great deal of the film in IMAX, how he and David S. Goyer chose Bane as the film’s villain, and he also explained his reasoning behind a certain plot point of the pic (Nolan says this plot point isn’t a spoiler since it’s the jumping off point of the film, but if you’d rather steer clear then skip the final two paragraphs of the article). Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

With all of the momentum that Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises has been gaining around these parts the past few days, it’s only fitting that Warner Bros. would continue to fuel the fire by sending over a new Bane teaser poster from the pic. Given that the film is still seven months away from release, I would imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more teaser one-sheets pop-up (ala The Dark Knight). In the meantime, this new sheet in addition to the original teaser poster from the film should be enough to tide me over.
Check out the new poster after the jump. The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters on July 20th, 2012. Also, in case you missed them, be sure to check out our spoiler-free recap of the film’s six-minute IMAX prologue and the film’s initial viral marketing campaign.

I think there’s something to be said for coming to your own conclusions. Case in point: I may currently be at odds with 77% of the Rotten Tomatoes critic community when I say this, but I found The Sitter to be worthy of my box office dollars. Was it the best comedy I’ve ever seen? Not even close. Was it the best comedy I’ve seen in the past six months? Nope. That said, I had been looking forward to the pic over the course of covering it for this site. When the critical negativity began pouring in, I could have easily passed on the film as a result (something I’ve been guilty of in the past). Instead, I decided to check it out and I laughed (quite a bit, actually). So, what’s the moral of my story? If you want to see a movie, go see it. Don’t let poor reviews detour you from something you think you may enjoy. Use reviews as a foundation for healthy debate rather than as an excuse to not give something a chance because someone else didn’t like it.
All ranting aside, in this week’s “Top 5″ installment, you’ll be able to read all about The Dark Knight Rises and its IMAX prologue, viral campaign, and potential IMAX footage runtime. You can also see George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara and more portraying classic movie “villains” of their choice, get up to date on Michael Bay potentially returning to direct Transformers 4, Daniel Craig discussing the script problems that plagued Quantum of Solace, and producer Kathleen Kennedy talking Jurassic Park 4, Tintin, Lincoln, and Robopocalypse. Check out a brief recap and link to each after the jump.

And here, we, go. The Dark Knight Rises viral campaign officially kicked off a couple of days ago, with a mysterious countdown added to the site yesterday for “Operation Early Bird.” This morning the nature of the countdown has been revealed as an opportunity to reserve passes to early screenings of The Dark Knight Rises prologue which will be attached to selected IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The map on the site reveals screening locations for 10pm showings of the prologue on December 13th, a few days before the IMAX release of Mission: Impossible on December 16th.
Head on over to www.operationearlybird.com to reserve your passes. As expected, the site is pretty overloaded at the moment, but patience is a virtue (or so I’m told). If you missed Steve’s 100% spoiler free video blog recap and “10 Things to Know” from the Christopher Nolan-hosted screening of the prologue last night, click here. It’s a very good read and I assure you will not spoil the footage in any way. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th, 2012.

Last night, Steve got to see the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX. I’ve avoided reading detailed reactions (although his is spoiler-free) because I want to go in fresh, but my understanding is that the footage is so good that it causes the blind to see, the crippled to walk, and then faded to black for our sins. But when you put this new footage together with the critically acclaimed IMAX work Christopher Nolan did with The Dark Knight, it’s clear that the director has made the format his domain.
While The Dark Knight featured a little under half-an-hour of IMAX footage, Steve spoke with producer Emma Thomas last night and learned that The Dark Knight Rises could feature between 40 – 50 minutes of IMAX goodness. However, Nolan and Thomas are not set on that number because Nolan hasn’t gotten around to editing anything beyond the prologue. Hit the jump for more.

NOTE: This is a completely spoiler-free recap of The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue
With The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue hitting theaters next week in front of Mission Impossible 4, Warner Bros. decided to world premiere the footage tonight at the IMAX theater at Universal Citywalk in Hollywood. As you might imagine, the theater was filled with journalists from around the world, as well as some of the Dark Knight filmmakers like director Christopher Nolan, producer Charles Roven, Jonathan Nolan (Chris’ brother and a screenwriter on the film) and producer Emma Thomas.
As the lights went down and the film started to play, you could feel the energy in the room rise as we were treated to the first look at the opening six minutes of The Dark Knight Rises and a montage of short clips from the rest of the film. So you’re probably wondering what I thought….it was fucking awesome. Hit the jump for more including a video blog recap.

After The Dark Knight launched its viral “Why So Serious?” campaign way back in 2007, the movie obviously went on to be a smash. How much of that was due in part to alternative marketing is up for debate, but with The Dark Knight Rises just around the corner, it’s no surprise that we might be seeing the beginning of another viral run-up. Recently, The Wrap (via Movie Viral) interviewed Jeff Robinov, the President of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, who said that the “marketing strategy will definitely evolve” from the previous Batman installment.
Hot on the heels of that quote, Empire and Wired (via Movie Viral) received two separate “CIA documents” concerning a Dr. Leonid Pavel. While that name doesn’t yet ring a bell, readers over at ComingSoon connected Pavel’s mugshot to that of actor Alon Aboutboul, who has a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but hit the jump to check the documents out just the same. [Update: A new document has been added along with a link to a countdown timer ; you can check them out after the jump.]
