So, after two weeks of talking about it, I finally caught Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire. My thoughts? I was satisfied. Not blown away. Not shaking my head in disappointment. Satisfied. Soderbergh’s fight scenes were as beautifully executed as can be reasonably expected. In my opinion, though, there just weren’t enough of them. David Holmes’ score was fantastic when set behind said fight/chase/action sequences so, by default, there just wasn’t enough of it. The same could be said for much of the ensemble cast. In large part, their screen time was time well served. There just wasn’t enough of it to go around. So, do I recommend Haywire? Sure. As long as you go in with the expectation of seeing a slick action/thriller that is somewhat light on action and thrills. Now, onto business…

…After the jump, you’ll find that this week’s “Top 5″ is comprised of the 2012 Oscar nominations, interviews from our Chuck series finale set visit, a number of interviews for both The Grey and Man on a Ledge, and an ode to all of our 2012 Sundance coverage. A quick recap and link to each follows.

With the two-hour series finale of Chuck airing tonight on NBC, we can finally reveal that we were on set for the filming of that last episode, where we got to interview the cast and creative team about their experiences. While everyone was clearly proud of their work and time on the show, it was also obvious that they were sad to see it go.

During the interview, show creator/writer/executive producer Chris Fedak talked about how surreal it was to be wrapping up the last couple of days on the TV series, that the final two hours will play very much like a movie, that the finale will echo all of the past seasons, and that they believe it will be as much of an emotional experience for the fans as it was for the cast to shoot it. Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there might be some spoilers.

While everyone was clearly proud of their work and time on the show, it was also obvious that they were sad to see it go.

During the interview with co-stars Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin, they talked about how what is happening between Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Strahovski) in the finale is going to weigh heavy on people’s hearts, how they’ve done some really gross and inappropriate behind-the-scenes pranks, how hilarious the teaming of Casey (Baldwin) and Morgan (Joshua Gomez) has been, and how they’ll be leaving with a lot of memories. While everyone was clearly proud of their work and time on the show, it was also obvious that they were sad to see it go.

During the interview with series star Zachary Levi, he talked about how gnarly it was to film their last scenes, that they spent their last day of shooting on the Buy More set reminiscing about their time on the show, guest stars he wishes could have come back, what he hoped he would get to do as Chuck but never got the chance to do, what it was like to direct his last Chuck episode, and whether fans will feel any resolution to the Chuck and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) relationship. He also talked about his desire to continue directing, his hope that he’ll be able to do a Y: The Last Man movie someday, and wanting to do a Broadway show. Judy Greer Developing Her Own Comedy Series at ABC and Bo Derek Takes a Guest Role on CHUCK

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: October 18th, 2011 at 2:48 pm

Two quick TV bits coming at you starting with news that Arrested Development and recent Two and a Half Men star Judy Greer is working on developing her own half-hour comedy series at ABC (via Deadline). Made of Honor screenwriters Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan are behind the script inspired by Greer’s real-life when she moved away from Los Angeles for the man she loves and found herself raising stepchildren and making new friends in a small suburban town. Yep, sounds like a standard sitcom to me.

This season of Chuck already has guest starts like Mark Hamill and Rebecca Romijn lined up, but now THR has learned that Bo Derek (Tommy Boy) will have a guest appearance on the final season of the series as well. Apparently Derek will be playing herself and she has a forbidden romance with one of the characters along with helping reveal some stunning secrets. What a tease! It sounds like this last season of Chuck is going to deliver a great finale for fans with plenty of pomp and circumstance.

Exclusive: Yvonne Strahovski Talks KILLER ELITE, the Final Season of CHUCK & Working With Streisand and Rogen in MY MOTHER’S CURSE

Yvonne Strahovski KILLER ELITE slice

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to land an exclusive interview with Yvonne Strahovski for her new action-thriller Killer Elite.  Starring Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, Jason Statham and Strahovski, the flick centers on a retired special ops agent (Statham) who is tasked with rescuing his mentor (De Niro).  I caught the film at TIFF and if you’re a fan Statham and the rest of the cast, it’s definitely worth seeing.

During the interview, Strahovski talked about how she got involved in the project, the great cast, what’s coming up on the final season of Chuck, if there’s a chance they could do more than 13 episodes, what it’s been like on set with this being the final season, and her experience at Comic-Con this summer.  In addition, she talked about filming My Mother’s Curse with Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand, and I also asked what her karaoke song is and the last video game she’s played.  Hit the jump for the interview.

COMMUNITY Star Danny Pudi to Cameo on the Final Season of CHUCK

The actor has already made a not so-subtle-cameo on Cougar Town in one of the best TV series crossovers in a long time, but now Community star Danny Pudi will stay at his home network for another cameo on yet another series. AOL TV has learned that Pudi will have some sort of cameo in the fifth episode of Chuck during its forthcoming fifth and final season. His role is being kept under tight wraps, and while it would be interesting if he were playing Abed again, I’m willing to bet he’ll have a real character outside of his Community alter ego this time around. Of course, things could get interesting since both shows are on NBC, and the meta-nature of the cameo would be even crazier if Abed ended up on Chuck. But I digress. Anyway, Pudi joins a great list of guest stars like Mark Hamill, Craig Kilborn and Carrie-Anne Moss to help Chuck go out with a bang. The fifth and final season of Chuck will premiere on October 21st.

With the approach of Chuck’s fifth and final Season, I got a chance to sit down with cast members Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin, Scott Krinsky, Vik Sahay, Ryan McPartlin and co-creator Chris Fedak, and intersect some knowledge to pass along to you.  For instance, the fifth Season will be comprised of 13 episodes with a major guest star in the form of Mark Hamill as a villain, and they’d love for Linda Hamilton to return to the show, depending on her schedule.  Much more after the jump.

NBC has officially announced their schedule for 2011-2012.  The network ordered six new dramas (The Playboy Club, Prime Suspect, Grimm, The Firm, Smash, Awake) and six new sitcoms (Up All Night, Free Agents, Whitney, Best Friends Forever, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea, Bent).

The network is programming Fridays fairly aggressively.  Chuck will air its fifth and final 13-episode season on Fridays, paired with the new fairy tale drama Grimm and Friday staple Dateline NBC.  NBC will hold 30 Rock for midseason to accommodate star/creator Tina Fey’s pregnancy.  The Thursday night sitcom block will be cut back to two hours with Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, and Whitney leading into the Maria Bello-led Prime Suspect remake.

NBC Renews CHUCK for Final Season, Cancels THE EVENT, OUTSOURCED and LAW AND ORDER: LA; CBS Picks Up J.J. Abrams’ PERSON OF INTEREST

And the TV news keeps on coming. Following ABC’s spring-cleaning from earlier, NBC and CBS have decided to get in on the fall schedule action. Via TV Line, the peacock has decided to renew Chuck, the show that will not die, for one final season. The show will reportedly return for 13 episodes, before bowing out permanently. Additionally, NBC has cancelled Lost look-alike The Event, whose season finale apparently also can serve as a satisfying series finale. The show may not be completely dead, however, because Deadline reports that producers are looking to take it to another outlet (Netflix was mentioned as a possibility).

NBC also cancelled underperformer Law and Order: LA and the fairly racist Outsourced. Additionally, the folks over at CBS have picked up the J.J. Abrams/Jonah Nolan (screenwriter of The Dark Knight) thriller Person of Interest starring Lost’s Michael Emerson. The network has also picked up the Kat Dennings sitcom Broke Girls, which pits the actress opposite Beth Behrs as two 22-year-olds struggling to “make their dreams come true” in New York City.
