Melissa McCarthy and Chuck Lorre MIKE & MOLLY Interview

At the CBS portion of the TCA Winter Press Tour, writer/producer Chuck Lorre and show star Melissa McCarthy were in attendance to talk about their hit series Mike & Molly. The comedy tells the story of a working class Chicago couple – Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell) and fourth-grade teacher Molly Flynn (McCarthy) – who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.

During the panel presentation, Chuck Lorre talked about having three shows on the air at one time (with Mike & Molly, The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men), what makes for a successful multi-camera comedy, how you know when something is working and the challenges of doing so many episodes in one season, while Melissa McCarthy talked about having had such a successful year, the fun of hosting Saturday Night Live, the opportunities she gets to make a complete ass out of herself on the show, and how much she enjoys working with the new additions to the cast. Comic-Con 2011: THE BIG BANG THEORY Panel Recap; Bloopers, Impressions and a Resolution to Last Season’s Cliffhanger

The cast and creators of TV’s “smartest, funniest and now Emmy-nominated” The Big Bang Theory dropped in on Comic-Con today to talk about the upcoming 5^th season of the popular series. Executive producers Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steve Molaro joined principal cast Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch on stage. In a nice touch for fans of the show, Carol Ann Susi provided the disembodied voice of Mrs. Wolowitz to introduce the panel. Ashton Kutcher to Join TWO AND A HALF MEN

It looks like the casting circus surrounding Two and a Half Men is finally over. Sources have confirmed to THR that Ashton Kutcher is putting the final touches on a deal to join the cast of the sitcom, filling the void left by Charlie Sheen after he decided acting sane was too much to ask of him for over $1 million per episode. The deal comes in the wake of Hugh Grant nearly joining the cast, only to pull out at the last minute over concerns about doing 20+ episodes of a TV series every year. No word on how Kutcher will be incorporated into the show, but one source lied that the storyline is “really funny.” I’m just baffled as to how this show is still a thing.

Chuck Lorre Developing TWO AND A HALF MEN Relaunch Without Charlie Sheen

Though I’m essentially mystified by anyone who actually misses the comedy series, fans of Two and a Half Men may be interested to know that the canceled sitcom may actually be reborn without Charlie Sheen. THR is reporting that series creator Chuck Lorre has definitely come up with an idea to reboot the sitcom and take it in a creative direction that would not bring the fired actor back to the series. Apparently Lorre has met with some close associates as well as series star Jon Cryer who will have a significant role in the series along with a new unknown character. Would this really be a Two and a Half Men relaunch or just a spin-off?

Meanwhile Sheen is still trying to get back on the show by clearing the air with cast members and winning their support. But for Now Lorre just doesn’t want to work with Sheen again, and even executives at Warner Bros. are saying that Sheen won’t be allowed back. However, apparently there’s still rumblings that the original Two and a Half Men could return for a ninth season (really, it’s been that long?) with another actor replacing Sheen. I’m sorry, but I think we’re just going to have to take Old Yeller out behind the barn and shoot him in the head. This is getting out of hand, and I can’t believe a sitcom like this needs to be resurrected. I just don’t think it’s worth it.

CBS Renews THE BIG BANG THEORY for Three More Seasons

For those of you in love with the geeky comedy of the CBS series The Big Bang Theory, we have some good news. Today the network announced that it has renewed their successful comedy series for 3 more season which will take Jim Parsons and the rest of the cast well into 2014. The standard publicity fluff quotes came from CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler as she said, “It doesn’t take a theoretical physicist to see why this show is a big part of our comedy future. From ratings to critical acclaim to pop culture buzz, it’s struck a chord on all levels.  The creative genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and the on-camera talents of an amazing young ensemble have created a comedy that will entertain viewers for a long time.”

Chuck Lorre has two shows on CBS: The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.  Chuck Lorre has the two highest-rated sitcoms on the air: Big Bang and Men.  It follows that, if Lorre wants to put his name on another show, CBS wants to make that show.

Thus we have Mike & Molly, which Lorre executive produces with Mark Roberts, slotted after Men on Monday nights.  The series promises to track the budding romance of the notably overweight Mike (Billy Gardell) and Molly (Melissa McCarthy) — a “nom nom nom” rom-com, if you will.  My review after the jump.

I love this show. I’ve loved it from the first episode. I’m not a scientist but I am a nerd and so every science fiction, comic book, nerd reference, in fact every piece of trivia tossed aside ’causes me to break out laughing and always has. But even as I type this I can’t help wonder if this show works for the non-nerds/scientists? I mean, does everything body get a thrill of excitement when the entire male cast of a series dresses up like The Flash? Do they even know who The Flash is? When a joke is dependent on an understanding of the DC multiverse is any but me and people like me, gonna be rolling in the aisle? More after the jump:

Comic-Con 2009 News – THE BIG BANG THEORY and FRINGE

With Comic-Con 2009 fast approaching, get ready for a ton of updates about what’s going on at this year’s convention. Since there is no reason to ramble on, I’ll keep all the intros brief.

If you’re a fan of either “The Big Bang Theory” or “Fringe”, both shows will be there and both are bringing the cast and creators. While production on the shows start around the convention, they will still have some fun videos to watch. The info on both is after the jump:
