With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount has been amping up the promotional campaign by debuting a ton of character posters and a great looking trailer.  As a fan of the first film, I’ll admit the sequel looks even better and it’s rocking a great cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

At this year’s CinemaCon, I got to speak with Adrianne Palicki (Lafy Jaye) and D.J. Cotrona (Flint).  They talked about their reaction to the new trailer and five-minute sizzle reel, the tone of the film, the action, and more.  In addition, with the Red Dawn remake getting released later this year, I asked Palicki is she had seen the finished film.  Hit the jump to watch.

All throughout last week, we brought you updates on a number of 20th Century Fox projects gleaned from Steve’s wide-ranging interview at CinemaCon with the studio’s CEO, Tom Rothman.  The exec talked about a New Mutants movie, the rating of Prometheus, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, A Good Day to Die Hard, and gave updates on Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Chronicle 2.  Today we have one last update to share, and it concerns a highly anticipated Fox property.

During the interview, Steve asked Rothman for a status update on the sequel The WolverineJames Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) is onboard to direct and after a number of delays, production is finally slated to get underway later this year once Hugh Jackman wraps Les Miserables.  Rothman revealed that filming will take place in Australia and Japan, and reassured fans that we’re in for a very hardened Wolverine.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

While Universal Pictures skipped CinemaCon/ShoWest the past couple of years, they more than made up for it with the best presentation of 2012.   While all the studios have great-looking movies arriving in 2012 and 2013, I wanted to see every single movie Universal talked about at CinemaCon  In addition, not only did they bring in the movie stars and directors, they world premiered footage from nine movies including Les Miserables, Ted, Savages, This is 40, R.I.P.D., Oblivion, The Bourne Legacy, Snow White and the Huntsman, and 47 Ronin.  In addition, they made sure to remind attendees that while filming hasn’t started on Fast and Furious 6 (the working title), it’s arriving next May, and Despicable Me 2 opens in July.  For what I thought about all the movies plus a complete video blog recap, hit the jump.

When Sony took the stage at CinemaCon 2012 yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas, they had a short one hour window to show off their various upcoming movies.  As we sat in the darkened theater waiting for the presentation to begin, we debated how could they have the stars and filmmakers talk about their movies and also show off tons of footage.  But rather than follow the typical studio roadmap, Sony decided to just show a non-stop sizzle reel sans movie stars that included the world premiere of Skyfall footage (a teaser trailer) and tons of new footage from all their 2012 films included The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall, Looper, Resident Evil: Retribution, Hope Springs, Premium Rush, Hotel Transylvania, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, and Men in Black 3.  More after the jump.

When Disney took the stage for their CinemaCon 2012 presentation yesterday afternoon, they didn’t mess around.  Loaded with footage, movie stars, filmmakers and information, the presentation was definitely aimed at letting exhibitors around the world know that the Disney umbrella (which now includes Pixar, Marvel, Walt Disney films, and distributing DreamWorks live-action films) is loaded with a lot of big properties and they have no intention of slowing down.  While some of the upcoming properties just had the stars and filmmakers talking about the movie (The Lone Ranger), others like Frankenweenie had Tim Burton on stage with Sean Bailey (President of Production at Disney) talking about why he wanted to make a stop-motion black and white movie, followed by the screening of a full scene.

In addition to what I just mentioned, Kevin Fiege from Marvel talked about Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, Thor 2, and The Avengers.  Pixar’s John Lasseter talked about their next four years of movies including director Lee Unkrich‘s untitled Dia de los Muertos movie, Bob Peterson‘s The Good Dinosaur, Pete Docter‘s untitled movie, Monsters University (including world premieriing the teaser trailer) and a clip of Finding Nemo in 3D and the first 30 minutes of Brave.  More after the jump.

When Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov took the stage at CinemaCon today, the big debate was over what footage he would showcase.  While rumors were flying that he’d show ten minutes of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit in 48fps, and that Christopher Nolan would show something from The Dark Knight Rises, no one was sure of anything.  But when he stepped off the stage after the presentation had ended, he had shown clips from some of the biggest films of 2012 and he also made history by world premiering the rumored Hobbit footage.

During the presentation we saw footage from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, Jay Roach’s The Campaign, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby in 3D, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages, and it ended with 10 minutes of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit in 48fps.  Hit the jump for more:

Last night at CinemaCon 2012, Paramount and DreamWorks Animation showed off footage from their upcoming 2012 movies including director Christopher McQuarrie‘s One Shot (starring Tom Cruise), Sacha Baron Cohen‘s The Dictator, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Rise of the Guardians, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

In addition to the footage, if you’re a fan of J.J. Abrams Star Trek and anxiously awaiting the sequel, during a tribute to a retiring Paramount executive, Abrams was interviewed on set wearing a very cool Star Trek 2 crew hat.  While he was only on screen for a few seconds, it was clear he was on the deck of the Enterprise, the hat had a number 2 in the front, and I immediately wanted to own one.  Hit the jump for more.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount has been amping up the promotional campaign this past week by debuting a ton of character posters and a great looking trailer. Earlier today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I got to sit down with Dwayne Johnson for an extended interview.  We talked about how he was approached to play Roadblock, the tone of the film, how he collaborated with director Jon M. Chu before production began, his thoughts on the brand new trailer and the sizzle reel I saw last night (here’s my recap), and more.  In addition, with Johnson currently filming Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain, we talked about the crazy story it’s based on, the style Bay is going for, and he also said that after he wraps, he’ll start shooting Fast Six in London and Berlin and then he heads to New Zealand for director Brett Ratner’s Hercules.  Hit the jump to either watch or read what he had to say.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount and Hasbro are starting to amp up the promotion of the movie by releasing a great new trailer and by having some of the cast (Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and D.J. Cotrona) talk about the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.  Prior to doing the interviews, I got to watch an impressive five minute sizzle reel and the new trailer with a group of reporters.  If you were disappointed with the first G.I. Joe movie, the sequel looks to be a big improvement, as it’s going for a more real world approach while still trying to be a fun action movie.  Also, with the majority of the Joe’s possibly getting killed in the first ten minutes  (which is why it’s called Retaliation), the sequel could almost be considered a reboot.  The sequel also stars Bruce Willis, Channning Tatum, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins.  Hit the jump for more.

Over 40 Posters and Displays from CinemaCon 2012 Including SKYFALL, THE HOST, LOOPER, DARK SHADOWS, SINISTER, More

While walking around at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I’ve been taking tons of pictures of all the posters/banners/theater standees that have been on display.  For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year, and where vendors can show new products for theaters to buy.  It’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners.  Besides showing off never before seen footage, the studios often bring the cast and the filmmakers.  Over the course of a few days, Hollywood comes to Las Vegas.

While a lot of the banners are just logos, I think they’re still worth checking out.  Also, it’s important to note that the posters/displays change during the week so you never know when something cool will premiere.  Hit the jump for posters/banners for a ton of movies including James Bond Skyfall, Dark Shadows, Moonrise Kingdom, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, Sinister, The Amazing Spider-Man, House at the End of the Street, The Host, Battleship, Looper, Step Up Revolution, Ted, Sinister, Here Comes the Boom, and so many more.

Awesome Theater Standee for Seth MacFarlane’s TED

ted-movie-theater-standee-slice

While there are many huge movies arriving this year, I’m pretty sure the one that will make me laugh the hardest is Seth MacFarlane‘s feature directorial debut Ted.  The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a 35-year-old man who’s still best friends with his teddy bear, Ted (voiced and mo-capped by Macfarlane), after his childhood wish brought the stuffed animal to life.  Now the bear is a foul-mouthed, pot-smoking freeloader who’s creating tension with his girlfriend (Mila Kunis).  I’ve spoken to a few people that have seen the film and they’re all ravings.  In addition, Wahlberg previously told me that it’s incredibly offensive.   For more on the film, check out this red-band trailer.  I promise you’ll laugh out loud.

Anyway, while walking around at CinemaCon this morning, I came across the first theater standee for Ted.  While some standees push a photoshopped cast, I love the way Universal is selling the rating by having Ted hold the sign.  For the average moviegoer who knows nothing about Ted, I think this standee is perfect.  Hit the jump to check it out and look for our continuing coverage from CinemaCon all week.

First Poster for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2

Almost a year ago, Summit Entertainment premiered the first promo poster for director Bill Condon‘s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.  So it makes sense that at this year’s show, Summit would premiere the first poster for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year, and where vendors can show new products for theaters to buy; it’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners.  Besides showing off never before seen footage, the studios often bring the cast and the filmmakers.  Over the course of a few days, Hollywood comes to Las Vegas.

While I’m sure Twilight fans would love to see a great photo of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner on the first poster, it’s just like last year in that it’s just the logo, the date, and info about the website on the bottom.  Hit the jump to check it out and look for tons of new posters and our reporting from CinemaCon every day this week.

First Poster for Woody Allen’s TO ROME WITH LOVE

to-rome-with-love-poster-slice

With CinemaCon starting on Monday in Las Vegas (it’s essentially Comic-Con for theater owners), the folks that run the convention are starting to hang the posters and build the displays.  While walking around over the past hour, I managed to get pictures of the first promo posters for Judd Apatow’s This Is 40 , Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin, and Seven Psychopaths and The Words. In addition to those promo posters, I came across the first domestic poster for Woody Allen‘s To Rome with Love.

The film is comprised of four separate vignettes and “tells the story of a number of people in Italy—some American, some Italian, some residents, some visitors—and the romances and adventures and predicaments they get into.”  I believe two of the vignettes are in Italian and the other two are in English.  The film stars Allen, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Alison Pill, and Greta Gerwig. To Rome with Love premieres in the U.S. at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 14th, and open in theaters on June 22nd.  Hit the jump to check out the poster and click here to watch the trailer.

First Promo Poster for LES MISERABLES Starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway [Updated]

With CinemaCon kicking off on Monday, we’ll be bringing you lots of coverage from the event throughout next week including interviews, panel recaps, and more.  Steve is already in Las Vegas for the event, and while walking the floor he came across the very first promo poster for The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper’s big-budget movie musical Les Miserables.  For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for all the major theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year; it’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners.  As such, this is just a very simple promo poster that’s pretty much just advertising the stellar cast and the fact that Les Mis is headed to the big screen this year.

Hit the jump to take a look at the promo poster, which is surely the first of many posters and standees we’ll be bringing you over the next few days.  If you missed it, be sure to check out the recent set photos and videos which feature Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway singing the finale song.  Les Miserables opens on December 14th.

Update: We’ve come across another version of the Les Miserable promo poster and added it after the jump
