As Marvel is all about social media, the studio assembled a few of the creatives involved in the upcoming superhero pic The Avengers to answer some fan questions on Twitter today. Taking part in the discussion were director Joss Whedon and stars Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, and Clark Gregg. Appropriately, Jackson kicked off the Q&A by tweeting a picture of himself flipping off the camera. The quartet talked a bit about the film (Whedon denied those ridiculous Spider-Man cameo rumors), and Marvel released a preview of the TV spot for the film that will play during the Super Bowl. The TV spot preview is pretty damn epic, and gives us a fantastic look at Hulk. I have a feeling that this is going to be the Super Bowl movie preview that everyone will be talking about. Furthermore, Marvel announced today that not only will The Avengers be released in 3D this May, but they’re also re-mastering the film for IMAX screens. So if you’re looking for a ridiculously immersive experience, check out your favorite superheroes in IMAX 3D.
Hit the jump for some of the highlights from the Twitter Q&A, and to check out the Super Bowl preview. The Avengers opens in IMAX 3D, 3D, and regular ol’ 2D on May 4th.

The way of the future indeed. As more evidence that Twitter is becoming the glue that holds all forms of media together, Marvel has announced that director Joss Whedon and cast members from The Avengers will be participating in a live Twitter Q&A. The “Global Twitter Chat” will take place on Tuesday, January 31st at 11am PST and will include Whedon and stars Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg. As if the chance to ask Joss Whedon questions wasn’t enticement enough, fans will also have the opportunity to answer Avengers trivia for a chance to win Avengers prize packs. It’s an Avengers extravaganza! Hit the jump for more, including confirmation of at 30-second TV spot for the film during the Super Bowl.

For Joss Whedon, it looks like there’s always time for Shakespeare. One would think that work on The Avengers would consume almost all of the writer-director’s schedule, but apparently he’s been able to squeeze in the mysterious project Much Ado about Nothing. Since the website says “Based on a Play”, presumably it means the one by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare’s romantic-comedy centers around two couples: the lively and interesting Beatrice and Benedict, and the mopey and less-interesting Claudio and Hero. Both couples a betrayed by the villainous Don John, but love wins out in the end and both couples end up getting married. Despite the lack of supernatural or sci-fi elements, it’s a story that fits nicely into Whedon’s wheelhouse of characters.
Nathan Fillion revealed the project by tweeting a link to the website, and plenty of the usual Whedon suspects have been rounded up for the cast. In addition to Fillion, there’s Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Tom Lenk, Ashley Johnson, Fran Kranz, Reed Diamond, Riki Lindhome, Sean Maher, plus recent collaborator Clark Gregg along with a bunch of new faces. If you’re wondering how a project like this flies under the radar until now, it’s probably because it was a low-budget affair that Whedon cranked out over the course of a few weekends. The photo above is from the website, but we don’t know if it’s an image from the movie, referencing from the movie, or if it’s just how Bellwether Pictures like to congratulate its productions. I’m eager to find out Whedon’s take on the material and how he plans to distribute the picture. [Update: A full press release has appeared on the website, revealing more details about the project including who's playing what role. Hit the jump to read.]

Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on DVD/Blu-ray on October 25, featuring the Marvel One-Shot “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer.” You don’t have to wait until then to see “Funny Thing,” though, since Marvel released it early online. The first One-Shot we saw, “The Consultant,” intends to connect The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. The new One-Shot is meant to bridge Iron Man 2 and Thor. The slickly directed short follows Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) as he stops at a convenience store for some donuts, when two armed men burst in and try to rob the place. See how the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent takes care of the situation after the jump.

Are you attending this year’s New York Comic-Con? Were you planning on going to the presentation for The Avengers? If so, then everything’s gonna be fine. Marvel has announced they’ll be showing never-before-seen footage from the movie at NYCC’s IGN Theater on October 15th from 6:30 – 7:30pm. The panel for the event will feature producer Kevin Feige, and stars Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, and Cobie Smulders. I expect everyone who is attending the presentation to studiously take notes and tweet your every thought. I also expect we’re going to get a teaser trailer for the film within a month, but that’s brazen speculation on my part. Brazen, I tell you.
Hit the jump for the press release. The film also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

The Blu-ray release of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger is on the way, and included on the disc is another Marvel short film that fills the gaps between features. The first one we saw was The Consultant, which attempted to tie together the events of The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers with the use of Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson. This new short, called A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer bridges Iron Man 2 and Thor. It again stars Clark Gregg, and today we’ve got a sneak peek at the short. It looks to be a bit better than The Consultant (which isn’t saying much), and Gregg instantly ups the watchability of anything he’s in.
Hit the jump to watch the sneak peek. Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 25th.

As review copies of the upcoming Thor Blu-ray are going out, it’s not surprising that some of the disc’s noteworthy extras are being posted online. First up, there’s the “Road to The Avengers“, a sneak peek which is almost entirely worthless. There’s no footage from the movie, and it’s mostly a puff piece where talking heads celebrate the scope of the picture and how great it is to work with everyone. The only moment of any value is when director Joss Whedon says that the idea that fuels the film is this group of superheroes becoming a team and “finding what they didn’t have before.” The other special feature is a short film, “Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant”. If you ever wanted to see the mundane behind-the-scenes activities of S.H.I.E.L.D., you’ll love this short, which feels like a fan film except they got Clark Gregg to star in it.

The other day I did a set visit on writer/director Maggie Carey’s The To Do List (formerly titled The Hand Job). The film stars Aubrey Plaza as a sexually inexperienced teenager with a type-A personality who decides to engage in numerous sex acts before she goes to college. The film’s loaded with an amazing cast and sometime down the road, you can expect my set report and on set interviews. It’s definitely a film that should be on your radar.
Anyway, one of the people we spoke to on set was Clark Gregg. While we’re embargoed from reporting what he said about The To Do List, they were fine with us running what he said about his other projects. So after the jump you can read his quotes on how The Avengers has been going, a possible Agent Coulson spinoff movie, Trust Me (his next directing gig which starts shooting this October), Comic-Con, and Tom Hiddleston’s (Loki) favorite Albuquerque restaurant…

The raunchy comedy The To Do List (formerly titled The Hand Job) already has an outstanding cast and now has added two more great names to the list. The Playlist reports that Clark Gregg and Rachel Bilson have signed on to the flick which stars Aubrey Plaza as a sexually inexperienced teenager with a type-A personality who decides to engage in numerous sex acts before she goes to college. Allow me to blow your mind with a rundown of who else is in this film: Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Donald Glover, Connie Britton, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Scott Porter, D.C. Pierson and Dominic Dierkes. The Playlist speculates that Gregg will play the conservative father of Plaza’s character and Bilson will play her older sister.
Written and directed by Maggie Carey, filming is likely to get underway soon before the majority of the cast has to return to their various TV shows.

Your kids are probably going to love Mr. Popper’s Penguins. I saw it an audience filled with kids and their parents, and the kids laughed throughout. They laughed when the penguins farted. They laughed when the penguins pooped. They laughed when the penguins fell down. They laughed when Jim Carrey made a funny face. The movie easily walks beneath the low bar set by what passes for family films and if you want to keep your kids amused for two hours and can’t find a shiny object, then Mr. Popper’s Penguins fits the bill. There’s nothing I can say against this film that makes it any less of a joy to kids who ask nothing more than funny faces, fart jokes, and slapstick. Instead, I’m fascinated by the film’s unsettling subtext..

20th Century Fox has released 8 new clips from their upcoming family film Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Based on the children’s book of the same name, the film centers on a divorced New York real estate developer who inherits some penguins from his kooky father. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls) the film stars Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, Clark Gregg and Madeline Carroll. Hit the jump to check out the clips. Mr. Popper’s Penguins hits theaters on June 17th.

The stars of Thor were out at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood to celebrate this week’s opening of the latest Marvel superhero movie. The street was shut down and the Asgard throne even made an appearance, while the cast arrived in cars with the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on the side, and happily greeted fans and signed autographs.
Joining cast members Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Renee Russo, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, James Dallas and Tadanobu Asano were director Kenneth Branagh, screenwriter Zack Stentz, story writer J. Michael Straczynski, Disney Chairman Bob Iger and, of course, Stan Lee. Other celebs who made appearances on the red carpet included Colin Farrell, Liam Hemsworth, Fright Night co-stars Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Gillian Jacobs from NBC’s Community, Jennifer Grey, Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams, The Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli, Kyle XY star Matt Dallas and director Edgar Wright, among others. Check out all of the exclusive photos after the jump.

With Thor finally arriving in America next weekend (it’s already playing around the world), Paramount/Marvel have released the EPK and included are four clips and ten minutes of behind the scenes footage. While the clips have all been previously released, this is the first time we have all four in one place. In addition, if you’re curious what it’s really like on a movie set, the behind the scenes footage is great to watch. However, if you are trying to avoid spoilers, you might want to check it out after you’ve seen the movie.
As I said when I posted my review/video blog on Thor, I thought the movie was great. Also, while Thor is not an easy transition from comic books to movie screens, director Kenneth Branagh made it work and I cannot wait to see everyone together in The Avengers next summer. Hit the jump to watch the clips and look for new interviews next week. Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg and Colm Feore.

Yesterday, Joss Whedon announced the commencement of filming on The Avengers but it was in his causal, Whedon-y way. Today, Marvel sent out a press release announcing the start of shooting. The press release has fewer jokes than Whedon’s announcement, but it also has more confirmations. The press release confirms that Tom Hiddleston will return as Loki and that he’ll be joined by Thor co-star Stellan Skarsgård who plays Professor Erik Selvig.
Hit the jump to check out the press release along with the first official set photo. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

Marvel has released some more new images from Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Among the new images we have a good look at Rene Russo as Frigga as well as a nice photo of the Warriors Three (Tadanobu Asano, Josh Dallas, and Ray Stevenson).
Hit the jump to check out the new images. Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg, and Colm Feore. It opens in 3D on May 6th.
