ANCHORMAN 2 Is a Go with Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd; Filming Begins February 2013 [Updated with New Video]

I genuinely thought this day would never come. After coming thisclose to a greenlight with the original cast and director in tow, Paramount ultimately passed on a sequel to Anchorman, one of the best comedies of the past 25 years. Writer/director Adam McKay revealed that their pitch to the studio was to do an all-out musical, with the entire cast performing for four months on Broadway before going straight into production. Apparently averse to brilliant ideas, Paramount balked at the notion. Now, with great pleasure, I’m happy to say that Anchorman 2 is back on track. Hit the jump for more.

The first thing to know about Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop is that – though the subject matter is alluded to – Conan never really comes clean about the dirt that happened to him when NBC ousted him from The Tonight Show and brought Jay Leno back. Instead, Rodman Flender’s documentary is about O’Brien creating and performing the “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.” The film lives up to the title – Conan is a ball of energy throughout, going from date to date and engaging with his fans. Conan O’Brien Doesn’t Think Chris Hemsworth Was the Right Choice for THOR

Unless you’re Australian, you’re probably not familiar with Thor leading man Chris Hemsworth.  American ignorance about the actor turns out to be a huge boon for Conan O’Brien as he decided to put a slightly effeminate spin on Mr. Hemsworth’s performance.

SXSW: Conan Documentary Acquired in Multiplatform Joint Venture by AT&T, Abramorama and Magnolia Home Entertainment

In a bit of an odd development, Conan O’Brien’s documentary chronicling his 32-city music/variety tour last year, Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop, has been acquired at SXSW by three different distributors for three different types of distribution: AT&T, Abramorama and Magnolia Home Entertainment. AT&T will distribute the film through its AT&T U-Verse subscribers on the same day that Abramorama will distribute the film theatrically. In addition, Magnolia Home Entertainment will deal with VOD and other home entertainment rights.

Directed by Rodman Flender, the documentary follows Conan’s Legally Prohibited from Being on Television Tour that he embarked on last summer to wild success. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

NBC Picks Up WONDER WOMAN; Plus, Pilot Orders from Steven Spielberg, Conan O’Brien, Ethan Hawke, Rob Thomas, Tim Kring, and More

Wonder Woman will not die.  David E. Kelly is a bizarre choice to run the show, and the networks seemed to realize this when they passed on Wonder Woman in unison.  But where there’s a will (and a deeply troubled network), there’s a way: NBC has picked up Kelley’s Wonder Woman reboot.  I hope to see a live-action Wonder Woman in my lifetime, but not like this.  Not like this at all.

This report comes among a flurry of pilot season news involving such talent as Steven Spielberg, Conan O’Brien, Ethan Hawke, Rob Thomas, Tim Kring, and more.  Hit the jump for a recap.

THE BEAVER and Conan O’Brien Documentary Among List of Films Set to Premiere at 2011 SXSW Film Festival

We previously announced that Moon director Duncan Jones’ upcoming film Source Code would be opening the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival, and now the list of films that will be featured in Austin has started to trickle out. Jodie Foster’s The Beaver and the documentary Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop will have their world premieres at the festival. In addition, the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starrer Paul will have its North American premiere at the festival. The Beaver stars Mel Gibson and centers on a man’s journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop is a documentary by Rodman Flender that follows behind-the-scenes of Conan’s summer tour. Film Conference and Festival Producer Jane Pierson had this to say:

“As we continue to solidify the lineup for 2011, it’s truly exciting to be able to announce this little taste of the program. Each of these films really showcases an artist stretching their wings in some way, whether it be a late-night talk show host taking his act on the road, an actress/filmmaker carefully and beautifully tackling a heartbreaking subject in her finest work yet, or a successful photographer trying out a new medium in a new landscape.”

It’s been a long nine-month wait since Conan O’Brien exited The Tonight Show and the premiere of his new TBS late night talks show Conan, but the flame-haired comedian didn’t disappoint.  He was funny, affable, self-deprecating, clever, personably, and basically the Conan O’Brien we’ve all come to know and love.

Get a Sneak Peek at CONAN with SHOW ZERO on November 1st

Though Conan O’Brien’s brand new late night talk show doesn’t hit the airwaves until November 8th at 11/10c on TBS, the comedian is giving audiences a sneak peek at Conan with a warm-up episode. Yesterday, TBS announced, via press release, that a special online broadcast of Show Zero will be triple-simulcast at TeamCoco.com, YouTube and Facebook on Monday, November 1st at 11pm EST/8pm PST. The sneak preview of the new show will feature special celebrity guests, The Basic Cable Band and longtime sidekick Andy Richter as they all help get audiences and Conan himself warmed up for the premiere of Conan on November 8th.  Hit the jump for a preview:

Conan O’Brien Not Afraid of NBC; Plans on Using His Established Comedy Bits and Characters for CONAN

Though the Conan O’Brien’s rough exit from NBC resulted in all the established characters and comedy bits from his tenure at the network being left behind as the network’s intellectual property, it sounds like the late night host fully intends to do exactly the opposite on Conan. The NY Post reports that an upcoming Rolling Stone interview has O’Brien confidently saying, “”If there’s something we did for a long time that we’ve established as ours, we’ll figure out a way to do it. I won’t be denied my Masturbating Bear!”

The jerk-off gesturing bear is just one of many bits that made Conan’s late night comedy great, and while NBC reserves the right to take O’Brien to court for violating their agreement, it doesn’t sound like he’s scared. In fact it sounds like he’s ready for a hilarious court battle over a bear pleasuring himself, “What I really wanna do is be sued over the bear and then appear in court with the Masturbating Bear. ‘Your Honor, this bear can’t help himself!’” I’d pay to see that case in court. We won’t have to wait too much longer to see what Conan has in store with his new late night talk show on TBS premiering on November 8th at 11/10c.

Tom Hanks, Seth Rogen, Jon Hamm and More Among First Week Guests for CONAN

Ever since the epic Conan O’Brien vs. Jay Leno & NBC battle that captivated the media for so long, viewers have been waiting for Coco to make a triumphant return to the airwaves. Since The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has since seen its ratings slip below the numbers that resulted on Conan O’Brien’s demise, the new late night show at TBS, simply titled Conan, shouldn’t have any problem toppling Leno’s weaksauce talk show with the line-up of guests that the network has just announced for his first week on the air.

- Monday, November 8th – Seth Rogen (who won a viewer poll to decide the first guest on the show) and musical guest Jack White
- Tuesday, November 9th – Tom Hanks, Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and musical guest Soundgarden
- Wednesday, November 10th – Jon Hamm, Charlyne Yi (Paper Heart), and musical guest Fisful of Mercy
- Thursday, November 11th – Michael Cera, Julie Bowen (Modern Family) and comedian Jon Dore

So make sure you tune in to TBS starting Monday, November 8th at 11/10c to watch Conan O’Brien return to late night.

Andy Richter Joining Conan O’Brien’s Show on TBS

Late night talk show host Conan O’Brien and comedian Andy Richter have been working together intermittently since 1993. Though it had always been assumed that wherever Conan landed after leaving NBC in a huff, Richter wouldn’t be far behind. Well today TBS announce (via press release) that the longtime duo will be together again for Conan, the new late night show premiering on November 8th at 11/10c on TBS. Always making with the funny Richter said, “I’m thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS.  However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again.” Conan followed suit by saying, “This decision was made without my authority. I will get to the bottom of this.” I know I can’t wait for Conan’s return with Andy at his side. How about you?

Max Weinberg Officially Parts Ways with Conan O’Brien

Sadly, one of the great host-bandleader unions of all time has come to an end.  Max Weinberg will not be a part of Conan O’Brien’s new TBS late night show, Conan.  Both Weinberg and O’Brien issued statements cordially wishing the other well and saying that Weinberg may drop by the show in the future.

Weinberg probably sealed his fate when swam into the bad blood between O’Brien and Jay Leno and tried to replace Kevin Eubanks on The Tonight Show this past April.  Movieline also reported that Weinberg would “send interns to do gardening work at his house” and “involve staffers in his pay disputes with the network.”  He was also notably absent during Conan’s Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.  Still, the guy was hilarious and his deadpan face was amazing.  He’ll be missed.  Hit the jump for the press release.

And the Name of Conan O’Brien’s New Show Is…

Conan O’Brien has announced the name of his new TBS late-night talk show.  In typical Conan fashion, he has done it not through a simple press release or even one of his clever tweets.  After the jump, watch a brief video where the magnificent red-headed bastard tells the world what his new show is called.

Conan O’Brien makes his highly-anticipated return to late night on Monday, November 8th at 11pm (EST).

Details on What Conan O’Brien Can and Can’t Say at This Sunday’s Emmys

A very interesting and possibly very awesome thing might happen this Sunday at the Emmys.  For those of you that don’t know, the short-lived but excellent Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien is nominated in the “Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series” category.  This is especially great and dramatic given that O’Brien walked away from the talk show franchise and NBC earlier this year after the network tried to push The Tonight Show to 12:05 a.m. in order to accommodate Jay Leno’s failure of a show at 11:35 p.m.  O’Brien was able to walk away with a $45 million deal, which also came with a “non-disparagement” clause between him and NBC that doesn’t expire until September 1^st.  This has led a lot of Team Coco members to wonder about what just might happen this Sunday if O’Brien and his staff of writers end up winning, since the awards show is broadcast by NBC.

Watch the New Monty Python-esque Promo for Conan O’Brien’s TBS Show

Finally, Conan O’Brien will once again grace our television screens this November 8th.  TBS has released a new promo with clear British influences, showing the top half of O’Brien’s oversized noggin in a Monty Python-esque stop motion skit.  The ginger comedian’s return to television has been highly anticipated since the Tonight Show debacle earlier this year.  Check out the clip and a recap of how O’Brien got here after the jump.
