Although Clash of the Titans 2: Wrath of the Titans won’t hit theaters until March 30th of next year, Warner Bros. has already given the go-ahead on a draft for the third installment. Screenwriters Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson have been tapped to begin work on Clash of the Titans 3. The studio must be happy with the work they’ve put forward so far, as both Mazeau and Johnson were co-writers on the Clash sequel. While Wrath of the Titans’s plot revolves around Perseus’s (Sam Worthington) rescue of Zeus (Liam Neeson) from Ares (Edgar Ramirez) and Hades (Ralph Fiennes), insiders report that a character from the sequel may play an important role in the third film. Clash of the Titans bowed on April 2nd of this year, and went on to earn nearly $500 million worldwide. It makes sense then, when we see on Box Office Mojo that Warner Bros. has targeted the same window to release the sequel — specifically, March 30, 2012. Right now, Clash 2‘s only scheduled competition is The Croods, an animated comedy set in the prehistoric era.
Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) will direct Clash of the Titans 2, with plans to shoot in 3D. Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson will write the script based on a treatment created with writer Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern). Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, and Liam Neeson are expected to reprise their roles from the first film. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have paired screenwriters Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson to write Clash of the Titans 2. Heat Vision reports that the two will work on the treatment with writer Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) and then go off to write the screenplay. It’s rare to bring separate writers together for a project. Usually, a studio will hire one writer and then another writer with a different expertise to work on a particular aspect of the script. Mazeau is known for writing exciting set pieces while Johnson’s area of expertise is writing darker characters, like last year’s (widely-ridiculed) Orphan. The hope is that bringing them together will streamline the process and create a cohesive narrative.
