Sony has released the first teaser trailer for director Sam Mendes’ (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) Skyfall and it looks fantastic. Unlike some trailers that show you everything and leave nothing to the imagination, this teaser trailer is exactly that…a teaser. It’s a perfect first look at Skyfall, and what I love is that we don’t even get see the film’s baddie, Javier Bardem. If you’re the type that likes to stay spoiler free, I promise you can watch it and you won’t be mad that you did. Hit the jump to check it out.
Skyfall also stars Daniel Craig, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes.

The first teaser poster for the new James Bond film Skyfall has gone online. It’s not really much, but I guess the word “teaser” should have clued us in on that front. It plays on the classic Bond imagery while hinting at a bit of a darker tone, and that may or may not be the London Underground. I’m eager to see what Sam Mendes will do with the Bond universe, and he’s off to a great start as he’s assembled an incredible cast anchored by Javier Bardem as the villain. This is just a teaser for what’s to come, and we should have a much better idea of what to expect once the teaser trailer debuts on Monday, May 21st at 8:30am BST.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. And if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage, including a video blog recap and interviews with director Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, producer Barbara Broccoli, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris and Ola Rapace, be sure to check it out. Skyfall opens on November 9th.

With this weekend’s domestic release of some little flick called The Avengers, the summer movie season is officially off and running. Although it’s easy for the comic book fan in me to rank The Avengers, The Amazing-Spider Man, and The Dark Knight Rises as my top three most anticipated summer pics, I thought it might be a nice exercise to quickly list what else the Summer of 2012 is offering that will likely tickle my moviegoing fancy. That said, because absolutely no one asked my opinion, here are five of my other most anticipated summer films (listed in chronological order by release date): Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus, Steven Soderbergh‘s Magic Mike, Seth MacFarlane‘s feature debut Ted, Fernando Meirelles‘ 360, and John Hillcoat‘s Lawless. As always, I’d love to hear from you, the reader, about what you’re looking forward to seeing on the big screen in the coming months. By all means, use the comments section liberally.
In this week’s Top 5 you’ll find a ton of interviews, Matt’s review, and other ancillary bits for the aforementioned The Avengers, Steve’s coverage from his visit to the Istanbul set of Skyfall, the third trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, a new trailer, images, and posters for The Amazing Spider-Man, and the first full-length trailer for The Expendables 2. A quick recap and link to each ensues after the jump.

There is something about being in the presence of James Bond. Maybe it’s because we all grew up watching the character. Or maybe it’s because we wish we could be him—bedding beautiful women and killing bad guys with ease and style. And although we all know Daniel Craig is not really James Bond, when he walks into a room filled with reporters from around the world to answer questions about Skyfall, the atmosphere changes. It’s like everyone just had a few cups of coffee and they’re wide awake and ready to ask a lot of questions. Trust me: not every actor gets that kind of response from entertainment journalists.
On Sunday afternoon, in Istanbul, Turkey, I got to participate in a roundtable interview with Daniel Craig and producer Barbara Broccoli. Since Craig had to get back to set to film part of an action sequence on Skyfall, we had limited time. However, even though Craig and Broccoli were guarded about giving away any of the twists and turns, they still talked about the strength of the script, the humor, how the upcoming teaser trailer only scratches the surface of what Skyfall is about, the stunts, invoking the wit of Ian Fleming, Easter eggs, if Bond 24 is really coming in 2014, and a lot more. Hit the jump to listen or read the interview.

James Bond is under fire and pinned down. He’s stuck behind a fruit stand wearing a form fitting gray suit with his gun drawn. About fifteen feet to his left, Naomie Harris is in the front seat of a damaged Land Rover. As he looks around the crowded outdoor Istanbul market filled with hundreds of bystanders, he notices an older motorcycle attached to a cart. When the gunfire slows down, Bond runs to his right and kicks the bike free. He gets on and speeds off after his assailant.
Let me back up a second.
For those just learning a new James Bond movie is being released this year (October 26 in the UK and November 9 in the US), Daniel Craig is back as James Bond and it’s being directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Away We Go). The film also stars Javier Bardem (as the villain Silva), Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Ola Rapace, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Judi Dench as ‘M.’ Skyfall Director of Photography is Roger Deakins (one of the best in the business) and it was written by John Logan (Hugo, Gladiator, Rango). Neal Purvis & Robert Wade also contributed to the script. Continued after the jump.

“You always go back to Fleming because the character Fleming created over a number of novels was incredibly complex. Some people sometimes forget in the cliche of Bond, which is the international playboy, and someone who’s always untroubled, and almost never breaks a sweat, that actually what Fleming created was a very conflicted character.”
This was part of what Sam Mendes said yesterday afternoon at a press conference in Istanbul, Turkey about Skyfall, where the 23rd James Bond movie is filming. It’s also where I type these words. As you can probably guess, I’m here covering the film and in the coming days you can expect a ton of Bond content (thank you Sony for having such a short embargo!). Until then, hit the jump to see Daniel Craig, Bérénice Marlohe, Naomie Harris and director Sam Mendes talk about being in Istanbul and filming at the Grand Bazaar, an amazing market that dates to the early Ottoman period.

James Bond had to stay off-duty for four years due to the financial meltdown of MGM, but the franchise found at home at Sony, and then kicked into production on the spy’s next adventure, Skyfall. The studio has no intention of giving 007 another extended vacation, and at CinemaCon yesterday, Rory Bruer, the company’s President of Worldwide Distribution, said the studio is aiming to have Bond 24 hit theaters in late 2014. I would be willing to go a step further and assume the studio would like the film in November 2014 since November has been home to all of the Daniel Craig Bond movies.
Speaking of Craig, his contract will allow him to refuse returning for the next movie. He’s given no indication that he has any plans to leave the franchise, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation, which probably won’t come until after Skyfall is released. Skyfall is due out on November 9th, and the first trailer will be attached to Men in Black 3, which opens on May 25th. Hit the jump for a description of the trailer.

Calling all James Bond fans: some great Skyfall content has hit the web. Not only do we now have eight new images from the latest entry in the James Bond franchise, but a featurette has been posted that features Javier Bardem talking about his villain character. The images have your typical “Daniel Craig looking like a bad ass” feel, but we also get a look at new Bond girl Naomie Harris and half of Ralph Fiennes. The nature of the Harry Potter actor’s role is being tightly kept under wraps, but this is the first time we’ve seen what his character looks like. Half his face is hidden behind a door to prevent being shot to bits, but I think we can safely assume he’s also self-conscious of his badly burned and disfigured left side (we can’t).
Hit the jump to check out the images and the video of Bardem and Craig talking about the film. Rumor has it (via The Daily Mail) that we’ll see the first trailer for Skyfall in front of Men in Black 3. Skyfall opens on November 9th.

Some new behind-the-scenes video from the set of the new James Bond film, Skyfall, has gone online. Unfortunately, it comes by way of Entertainment Tonight, so it’s not exactly the most hard-hitting of pieces. We do get a look at Daniel Craig filming some scenes and the actor talks about how he and director Sam Mendes are putting their stamp on the franchise with the 23rd entry in the series. We also hear from new Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe and the film’s baddie, Javier Bardem. In addition, it’s revealed that filming will be taking place in Shanghai, Scotland, and Istanbul, as well as London.
Hit the jump to watch the video. The film also stars Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. Skyfall opens on November 9th.

The 2012 Olympic Games in London are getting a little help from a familiar friend. After receiving a personal invitation from the Queen herself, Daniel Craig agreed to, and shot, an introduction to the upcoming summer Olympics for director Danny Boyle. The Slumdog Millionaire helmer has been busy putting together the Opening Ceremonies, and apparently Bond/Craig will play a part in the opening video entitled “The Arrival.” Sequences were shot at Buckingham palace, and rumors abound that the Queen herself will be making an appearance.
Craig’s involvement was first reported by The Sun on Sunday, but it was April Fools’ Day and all so we were hesitant to take the story at face value. Nevertheless, it now appears that a Bond-infused Olympics is definitely on. If you want to read details regarding Craig’s stunt-filled role in the video, hit the jump.

When The Adventures of Tintin came to America, there was a sense that it was almost an obligatory release. Even though it came from director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson – and from writers Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish – Herge’s Tintin has long been an international phenomenon that never made much of an impression on Americans. The film did okay in a busy season, but it feels like that should be way more celebrated. Tintin is Spielberg doing Indiana Jones in a way he never could before, and in doing so makes Crystal Skull look that much worse. This is Spielberg – one of the finest action directors in cinema history – unbridled. This is Spielberg not having to worry about cranes, or stuntman’s lives, or even editing. And for that The Adventures of Tintin is massively entertaining. Starring Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Tintin is one of 2011’s most undervalued movies, and our review of the Blu-ray follows after the jump.

Even though the trilogy had already been made into films (with many of those film’s cast members moving on to American roles), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was such an international phenomenon that the notion that people don’t like reading subtitles allowed for an American version. To make it into a big prestige project, director David Fincher and writer Steve Zaillian were brought in to adapt the successful novel for the big screen. Here Lisbeth Salander is played by Rooney Mara – who got an Oscar nomination for her work – and Mikael Blomkvist is played by Daniel Craig. Their characters investigate the Vanger family at the insistence of Henrik (Christopher Plummer), because he thinks someone in the family killed his niece. Our review of the Blu-ray of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follows after the jump.

Javier Bardem joins Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris as the newcomers to the James Bond universe in Skyfall. We know Bardem is the villain, but before today knew little else. New information surfaced from the London set this weekend, in the form of a character name and a glimpse of the look Bardem will sport in the film.
The image sliced above shows just Daniel Craig, also represented in the new set photos. I figure since this is his third film as James Bond, this was safe from spoilers. The new info/images related to Bardem can be found safely after the jump. Skyfall opens on November 9.

Filming is currently underway for the new James Bond film, Skyfall. Throughout production, director Sam Mendes will be providing videoblogs to provide fans with updates on 007′s latest adventure. I’m a little baffled when Mendes says that Casino Royale is about Bond being a real man in a real situation, and then turns around and say that reminded him of the Sean Connery movies. Has he seen those lately? In You Only Live Twice, Bond convinces people that he’s Japanese. Connery’s Bond isn’t even as seductive as people tend to think. Women want to have sex with him before they’ve even met him (see: From Russia with Love). The Craig movies are almost a complete 180 from Connery’s and there’s nothing wrong with that. Honestly, it seems like Mendes wants to praise both the last Bond movie people really loved as well as the Connery movies, which people will always love. Other than that, the videoblog is mainly Mendes saying how excited he is to be directing a James Bond film.
Hit the jump to check out the videoblog, which features some behind-the-scenes footage. The film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ben Chaplin, Berenice Marlohe, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. Skyfall opens November 9th.

Production is currently underway on the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, and Daniel Craig has been spotted filming some cardio-heavy scenes. The first official still from the pic was released a few days ago, in which we saw Craig wielding a gun. These set photos may seem a bit redundant, as they again show Craig as Bond wielding a gun. The actor was apparently filming a scene that required him to run, and he’s also wearing a handy-dandy earpiece. Not much is known about the plot, but director Sam Mendes has assembled quite the cast so I’m very much looking forward to the next Bond entry.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos. The film also stars Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ben Chaplin, Judi Dench, Berenice Marlohe, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. Skyfall opens November 9th.
