Warner Bros. has released two posters and three banners for Wrath of the Titans.  There’s no kraken this time around so none of the characters are going to say, “Let’s get kraken.”  I know the plot involves the titans getting unleashed and Zeus (Liam Neeson) asking Perseus (Sam Worthington) for some help, but I don’t get the point without kraken puns.  Kraken puns make the world go round.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramirez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund PikeWrath of the Titans opens in 3D on March 30th.

New Images from WRATH OF THE TITANS Featuring Sam Worthington and Ralph Fiennes

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 23rd, 2012 at 8:27 am

The latest issue of Empire Magazine looks to be chock-full of goodies. We’ve already brought you some covers and images from The Avengers, and now some new images from the upcoming sequel Wrath of the Titans have landed online. The follow-up to Clash of the Titans finds Sam Worthington’s Perseus tasked with rescuing a kidnapped Zeus (Liam Neeson) from Hades (Ralph Fiennes). The images here are actually pretty cool, and give me hope that Wrath might possibly be a healthy step up from the underwhelming Clash. We get a peek at a grotesque-looking Minotaur, Rosamund Pike as Andromeda, Edgar Ramirez as Ares, Danny Huston as Poseidon, and Fiennes as Hades.

Hit the jump to check out the images. Wrath of the Titans opens in 3D on March 30th.

First Trailer and Poster for WRATH OF THE TITANS [Updated With New Posters]

The first trailer for Wrath of the Titans has gone online.  I was disappointed by Clash of the Titans, but the trailer has somewhat restored my interest in the sequel.  Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) has taken the reigns from Louis Leterrier and obviously the action scenes are bigger because that’s what sequels do.  But I was taken with the imaginative design for the sets and the creatures.  Presumably the 3D will be much better this time around since it’s not a post-converstion.  But the larger question remains: Is the script any better?  Here’s hoping. [Correction: It is a post-conversion. I was under the impression the filmmakers didn't want to do something so blatantly stupid.]

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund PikeWrath of the Titans opens March 30, 2012. [Update: A couple of crazy banners a new image have been released, which are now included after the jump.]

Eric Bana and Danny Huston to Play the Title Characters in ELVIS & NIXON

Eric Bana and Danny Huston have signed on to play Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon, respectively, in Cary Elwes‘ directorial debut, Elvis & Nixon.  According to THR, the movie centers on the famous December 21, 1970 meeting/photo-op between The King (who was beginning to enter his Fat Elvis phase) and the crooked president.  Elvis had written Nixon a six-page letter requesting to be a “Federal Agent-at-Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and considering that Elvis died from drug abuse, he was clearly committed to his work.  Elvis brought family photos and a Colt 45 pistol as gifts for Nixon.  Nixon brought an incredibly awkward situation.

THR doesn’t say whether or not Elvis & Nixon is intended to be a comedy, but even if it’s a drama, seeing Bana play Elvis is too enticing a prospect to pass up.  In case you haven’t seen the photo of Elvis and Nixon, hit the jump.

THE WARRIOR’S WAY Blu-ray Review

No one in their right mind would call The Warrior’s Way a good movie, but if you’re in a properly goofy mindset, it’s sure a lot of fun. That certainly requires a fair amount of audience goodwill. The CGI-heavy environment smacks of undue slickness, counting on a high concept gimmick to pull it through instead of story or characters.  Most of the stars – including Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth and Danny Huston – are madly slumming, and use the opportunity to attain Maximum Ham as often as they can get away with it. The plot is a grab-bag of pop culture references, drawn from Chinese wuxia, Sergio Leone westerns and that period in Fellini’s development when he completely lost his shit and dove head-first into self-indulgence. But if you can forgive all that or indeed, find it all kind of funny, then the pleasures rarely get guiltier. Hit the jump for the full review.

Bill Nighy and Danny Huston Join CLASH OF THE TITANS Sequel; Full Synopsis Revealed

Production has begun on Jonathan Liebesman’s untitled sequel to Clash of the Titans.  Warner Bros. has sent out a press release confirming the film’s cast.  Returning actors Sam Worthington (Perseus), Liam Neeson (Zeus), Ralph Fiennes (Hades), and Danny Huston (seen in the first film for half-a-second as Poseidon), will be joined by Edgar Ramirez (Ares), Toby Kebbell (Argenor, Posiedon’s demigod son), Rosamund Pike (Andromeda), and Bill Nighy (Hephaestus). It’s worth noting that Gemma Arterton, who was rumored to return as Io, isn’t mentioned in the press release.

Warner Bros. has also sent out a full synopsis for the sequel.  The story takes place 10 years after the first film with Perseus attempting to lead a quiet life.  But he’s called back into action in order to rescue Zeus after the god is captured by Ares and Hades in a deal to unleash the titans.  The plot clearly has a major role set up for Kronos, the leader of the titans, but no actor has been linked to the role at this point.

Actor Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) has joined the cast of director Simon West’s (When a Stranger Calls) upcoming action-thriller Medallion. The Playlist reports that Huston will join Nicolas Cage in the flick, which centers on a former master thief (Cage) who has only a few hours to find his daughter when she is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a New York medallion taxi cab. Malin Akerman will portray an ex-girlfriend of Cage’s who teams up with him to find his daughter. The Taken-esque flick has a script from David Guggenheim (Safe House) and marks the re-teaming of Cage and West after their previous collaboration on Con Air.

Dennis Quaid Joins BENEATH THE DARKNESS; Sienna Miller and Danny Huston Take on TWO JACKS

We have a few bits of casting news for you this morning.  First up, Dennis Quaid has signed on to star in the indie thriller Beneath the Darkness.  Directed by Martin Guigui, Darkness is set in Texas (where it is currently shooting) and focuses on a teen who attempts to expose the deep, dark secrets of a house owned by Quaid’s character.  Speaking of which, per Variety, the actor is set to make a turn as a well-respected mortician (the best kind of mortician, in my opinion).  Quaid joins a cast that features Aimee Teegarden, Tony Oller, and Stephen Lunsford.

Next up, Sienna Miller and Danny Huston have agreed to take on Bernard Rose’s (Candyman) indie drama Two Jacks.  Based on the Tolstoy short story The Two Hussars, Jacks tells the story of an aging film director who returns to Hollywood to earn financing for his new project.  According to Variety, the director’s return is filled with “a series of wild adventures, in which he boozes, seduces a beautiful woman and fights with studio execs, winning the money he needs in a poker game.”  Given that the film spans two generations of one family, the project will also flash-forward twenty years later to focus on said director’s son (played by Jack Huston of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) as he attempts to follow in his father’s directorial footsteps.  No details regarding Miller or Huston’s roles are available as of now.

Kate Bosworth and Danny Huston Interview THE WARRIOR’S WAY

With The Warrior’s Way, writer/director Sngmoo Lee has crafted a tale that explores both Eastern and Western cultures and traditions. In the film, Yang (Jang Dong Gun) is a warrior hero from the East who undertakes an epic journey, meeting other wounded souls along the way. One of those souls is Lynne (Kate Bosworth), a free-spirited carnival knife-thrower who has survived an unthinkable tragedy, in a way that is very reminiscent of a cowgirl from the Old West. When these two cross paths, their chemistry is undeniable, even though they are totally ill-equipped to deal with their feelings, and they work together to defeat the Colonel (Danny Huston), who has been after Lynne since she permanently disfigured his face in an attempt to keep him from raping her when she was just 12 years old.

At the press day for the film, co-stars Kate Bosworth and Danny Huston talked about being attracted to this original fable, training for all of the physical work they do in the film, and working with Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

The Warrior’s Way is a visually stunning, modern martial arts adventure about the world’s greatest swordsman who abandons his warrior clan to start a new life. Setting up an original fable, first-time writer/director Sngmoo Lee tells the story of Yang (Korean superstar Jang Dong Gun), a mysterious man who decides to spare his last remaining enemy, an infant with whom he flees and seeks refuge in a frontier town in the American West. Once there, Yang unexpectedly finds a kindred spirit in Lynne (Kate Bosworth), orphaned by a horrifying act of brutality carried out by the Colonel (Danny Huston) when she was a child. As he teachers her martial arts and she teaches him how to look after the baby, the two form a surprising bond that strikes a balance between their different cultures.

At an interview during the film’s press day, actor Jang Dong Gun and filmmaker Sngmoo Lee talked about what it was like to bring this tale to life, the extensive fight scenes, the challenges of working with green screen and why this is the right time for Korean films and actors to make an impact in Hollywood. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

5 Movie Clips and 34 High Res Images from THE WARRIOR’S WAY Starring Jang Dong Gun, Kate Bosworth, Danny Huston and Geoffrey Rush

With director Sngmoo Lee’s The Warrior’s Way getting released on December 3, Relativity Media has provided us with 5 clips and 34 high resolution images from the hyper stylized kung fu western.  According to the official synopsis:

The Warrior’s Way, a visually-stunning modern martial arts western starring Korean actor Jang Dong Gun who plays an Asian warrior assassin forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston, and Tony Cox.  The fantasy action film was written and directed by newcomer Sngmoo Lee, and is being produced by Barrie M. Osborne (Lord of the Rings), Jooick Lee (Seven Swords) and Michael Peyser (Hackers).

After watching the clips, this is one of those films that tries to do something very different.  While the footage didn’t excite me the way I’d hoped, I think they’re still worth checking out.  Hit the jump:

New Images for THE WARRIOR’S WAY Starring Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, and Jang Dong Gun

New images have surfaced for Relativity Media’s The Warrior’s Way. Starring Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston and “international superstar” Jang Dong Gun, the film looks to be of the 300 variety, with stylish action visuals drenched in slow motion set amidst stunning landscapes. The new pics don’t offer anything that wasn’t previously seen in the trailer from September, but they do feature a decidedly red-headed, knife-wielding Bosworth in her first gig since 2008’s poker-drama 21.

The Warrior’s Way is written and directed by Sngmoo Lee, and produced by Barrie Osborne (Lord of the Rings). The film is slated to hit theaters December 3rd. Hit the jump to see the pics.

ROBIN HOOD Blu-ray Review

by Andre Dellamorte    Posted: September 29th, 2010 at 7:30 am

When Ridley Scott made Kingdom of Heaven, he ended it with King Richard the Lionhearted asking directions to Jerusalem, and on the commentary track for the director’s cut Scott suggested he had an idea for the sequel. It would be a Robin Hood story, but with his main character from KoH. That film wasn’t a hit, so when Ridley did get to the legend of Robin of Locksley, he had Russell Crowe as his lead. Russell Crowe is no spring chicken, and the decision to cast the 40+ actor as the sprightly archer seems off, but if you’re going to make a $200 Million dollar movie, that’s the sort of compromise that going to happen. Scott and Crowe are basically cashing in their Gladiator chips, by – after having a huge success – making the expensive “sorta same, sorta sequel” film.  My review of the Director’s Cut Blu-ray of Robin Hood follows after the jump.

EDGE OF DARKNESS Blu-ray Review

by Andre Dellamorte    Posted: May 14th, 2010 at 8:35 am

Edge of Darkness movie image Mel Gibson slice

Mel Gibson got sloppy drunk in a bar and when he got arrested for a D.U.I. he started making inappropriate comments. That incident was made public and all the bad things suspected about Gibson were confirmed. He had had a crazy man beard, hadn’t acted since 2002, and made anti-Semitic and sexist comments. By that point he was nowhere near The Passion of the Christ or Lethal Weapon. So he did what anyone in Hollywood does when that happens: he disappeared for a while and came back doing a variation on what people loved him for, with a mix of pathos in there for good measure. In Martin Campbell’s Edge of Darkness Gibson plays a cop whose daughter is killed in front of him, and so he goes on the hunt for revenge, and unravels a conspiracy. My review of Edge of Darkness on Blu-ray after the jump.
