MGM has acquired Neil Strauss’ novel The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists, and the studio has hired Solitary Man writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien to rewrite and direct the adaptation. Strauss’ book is part memoir, part how-to guide to learning how to woo the woman of your dreams (or just any woman, really). The adaptation has been around Hollywood for a while, with Chris Weitz previously attached to direct. Now THR reports that Chris and his brother Paul are set to produce. Screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Ocean’s Thirteen) recently revealed that they are hard at work on the script for National Treasure 3. The previous two installments of the franchise were written by Cormac and Marianne Wibberly, but the duo decided not to return for a third installment. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated last year that National Treasure 3 was in the works but nothing further was heard until now.

Director Jon Turteltaub, who helmed the previous two Treasure films, recently signed on to direct the romantic comedy Unreasonable Doubt, but one would assume that he will be behind the camera when National Treasure 3 rolls. In an interview with Done Deal Pro (via Bleeding Cool), Koppelman and Levien also revelaed that they recently completed their adaptation of Levien’s novel City of the Sun which they plan to direct. Hit the jump for more, including a synopsis of the novel.

DiCaprio Goes All In With ROUNDERS’ Koppelman and Levien

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 15th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

leonardo_dicaprio.jpgAccording to THR, Leonardo DiCaprio is re-teaming with “Rounders” filmmakers Brian Koppelman and David Levien for an untitled flick which takes place in the world of Costa Rica-based online casinos.  No word yet on what character DiCaprio would play but I’m hoping it’s an animated avatar that encourages you to gamble more money.

DiCaprio, Koppelman, and Levien are currently teamed up on the adaptation of Josh Bazell’s “Beat the Reaper” but in all of this, you have to remember a very imporant fact: DiCaprio, because he also works as a producer, is attached to a lot but doesn’t turn out more films than the average actor.  You’ll get, at most, two films a year from him.  If you just pop over to his IMDb page, you’ll see that he has 21 films in development (although as you’ll see it’s a bit out of a date since it lists “Akira” as one of his projects and as Bloody-Disgusting reported yesterday, that project is dead).

I would love to see any team-up from these talents especially as “Rounders” is one of the all-time great guy movies and I look forward to seeing Koppelman and Levien get back to the world of gamblers.
