The trailer for David Wain‘s Wanderlust has gone online.  The movie focuses on Manhattan couple George and Linda (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) who are forced to move to Atlanta when George loses his job.  Moving to Atlanta is apparently a fate so terrible that it causes Aniston to scream at the heavens.  The two then move around to various locations until they land on a commune and start to feel renewed.  It looks like For Better or Worse or Did You Hear About the Morgans? if either of those movies were funny.  Wain delivered a great little gem with Role Models and it’s tough to go wrong when you throw in The State alum like Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.  There’s a bunch of great jokes in the trailer, and it isn’t even a red-band version.  Color me excited for this flick.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The great cast also includes Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Lauren Ambrose, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan AldaWanderlust opens February 24, 2012. [We've updated the article with new images which you can check out after the jump.]

David Wain Still Thinking About WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER Prequel

If you’ve never seen David Wain’s (Role Models) absolutely ridiculous comedy Wet Hot American Summer, your life is incomplete. In addition to being absurdly hilarious, the 2001 film features an all-star cast of comedy greats, many of them on the cusp of stardom at the time of the film’s release: Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garafalo, David Hyde Pearce, Michael Ian Black, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Joe Lo Truglio, Judah Friedlander, Michael Showalter and yes, Bradley Cooper. The film wasn’t a huge hit, but has gained a cult status over the years, so much so that director Wain has been mulling over an equally absurd prequel/sequel. Appearing on The Q&A Podcast (via The Playlist), Wain offered an update on the follow-up:

“The prequel would be the same summer so they would be 20 years old for the part yeah, but not younger. So it would be 40 year olds playing 16 year olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that.”

While this idea of 40 year-olds playing 16 year-olds has been floating around for a few years, it’s reassuring to know that those involved are still thinking about the sequel. While it sounds like a bit of a logistical nightmare to get the entire main cast back together, it would most definitely be worth it. And now that Meloni’s out of a job, he can reprise the greatest character he’s ever played, ever.

CHILDRENS HOSPITAL Screening and Q&A Event

Two important facts to remember about Childrens Hospital: 1. It’s the funniest show about doctors currently on air (2nd was the now defunct Off the Map) 2. Practically nobody has ever heard of it. The latter is rather hard to understand given the show features a who’s who lineup of comic personalities: Rob Corddry (The Daily Show), Rob Huebel (Human Giant), Henry Winkler (Happy Days), Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), Ken Marino (Party Down), David Wain (The State) and the voice of Michael Cera (Arrested Development) to name just a few.

At UCLA Tuesday Night, select cast and crew (Huebel, Corddry, Mullaly, Marino, Wain, Nick Kroll (The League), Malin Akerman (The Comeback), Erin Hayes (Kitchen Confidential) and writer/producer Jon Stern screened the opening third season episode and then held a Q&A, wherein they discussed “special” guest stars for the upcoming season, the deference to non-continuity on the show, casting, endometrial cancer and their favorite porn stars, among many other topics of conversation. Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg Are Father and Son in I HATE YOU DAD

Adam Sandler is in talks to play Andy Samberg’s father in I Hate You Dad though less than twelve years separate their ages in real life. According to THR, “The story centers on a father who moves in on the eve of his son’s wedding and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be.”  Columbia Pictures first picked up the project in August 2008 from a script by David Caspe that has since been rewritten by David Wain and Ken Marino (Role Models).

I Hate You Dad is one of several possible starring vehicles for Sandler including Narco, The $40,000 Man, and Valet Guys with Kevin James.  Sandler will next be seen in Just Go With It opposite Jennifer Aniston (February 11th), followed by Jack and Jill opposite Adam Sandler in drag later in the year.  Samberg has supporting roles in the upcoming big screen comedies Friends With Benefits and What’s Your Number.

With all due respect to Kevin James, Samberg/Sandler is a more exciting comedic prospect if only thanks to the novelty.  And that’s before you factor in the invigorating potential of a script from Wain and Marino.

We have two quick pieces of casting news for you this morning.  First up, Ron Perlman has joined the stellar cast of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive. Based on James Sallis crime novel of the same name, the story centers on a Hollywood stuntman (played by Ryan Gosling) who also works as a getaway driver.  The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks, and Albert Brooks.  Production is scheduled to begin this fall.

Unfortunately, Screen Daily’s article doesn’t have any details on what role Perlman will play.  Perlman is also playing Conan’s papa Corin in Conan.  He can currently be seen in the new season of FX’s Sons of Anarchy and co-starring in the drama Bunraku, which is playing at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

SDCC 2010: CHILDRENS’ HOSPITAL Interviews with Rob Corddry, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, David Wain, and Nick Kroll

Today I had the privilege of participating in a roundtable with the creators and cast of Adult Swim’s Childrens’ Hospital. Initially a web series on TheWB.com, the hilariously over-the-top primetime drama parody is crossing platforms, and will premiere its second season on Adult Swim on August 22nd. Members of the show participating in the interview included: creator Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), Lake Bell (It’s Complicated), Erinn Hayes (Parenthood), Paul Scheer (Human Giant), Rob Huebel (The Other Guys), Nick Kroll (Get Him to the Greek), and writer/director David Wain (Role Models).

It probably goes without saying, given the comedic talents of those involved, but the roundtable was a very light, very funny place for the amount of time we were given. Hit the jump for a bulleted breakdown of some of the highlights.

Chris Mintz Plasse Red Carpet Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK

At last night’s premiere of Get Him to the Greek, I was able to interview McLovin Chris Mintz Plasse.  Since I recently spoke to him at WonderCon for Kick-Ass, I started off asking what the last month or two has been like.   Besides playing in his band, he told me he’s about to sign onto a new movie that films this summer but he wouldn’t reveal anything else about the project.  If you watch the interview, you’ll see I tried quite hard to get some more info.  We also talked about how much he pays attention to the online buzz and I asked if David Wain has asked him to be in his new project as they worked together on Role Models.  Hit the jump to see what he had to say:

David Wain’s New Project is Called WANDERLUST; Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd Attached to Star

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: May 11th, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Last week we reported David Wain and Ken Marino (Role Models, The State) were working on a script that Judd Apatow was going to produce.  We also reported Paul Rudd was attached to star and the plan was to shoot the film this fall.  A few new details have hit the net thanks to Variety as they’re reporting:

While Jennifer Aniston is usually box office poison (except for Marley & Me), I’m keeping my fingers crossed David Wain knows what he’s doing.  As I said in my original post, while some of you might have missed out on Role Models, it’s a very funny comedy that’s definitely underrated.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Judd Apatow Producing New Paul Rudd Film; Written by David Wain and Ken Marino

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: May 7th, 2010 at 6:40 pm

If you’re a fan of the movies Role Models, The Ten, and the TV show The State, you’ll be happy to learn Judd Apatow told MTV he’s going to be producing David Wain/Ken Marino’s next movie which will star Paul Rudd.  The plan is to shoot this fall and it’ll be officially announced soon.  No other info has been released.  However, if they’re shooting this fall, the film could be released as soon as next summer.  It all depends on special effects and post production.

While some of you might have missed out on Role Models, it’s a very funny comedy that’s definitely underrated.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.  And it goes without saying The State is worth your time.  More as we hear it.

Is Director David Wain TOO COOL TO BE FORGOTTEN?

by Ti Alan Chase    Posted: April 5th, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Have you ever had the dream/nightmare of having to relive your teenage years?  If you could take a lifetime of knowledge back with you to your days in high school, what would you do differently? Those are the questions posed by Alex Robinson’s 2008 graphic novel Too Cool to Be Forgotten. The Harvey Award winning novel tells the story of a 40-year-old man who attempts to break his life-long smoking habit through hypnosis, only to find himself transported back into his 15 year old body.

In January producer Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and a business partner bought a 33% share in Top Shelf Productions, the publisher of Too Cool. This arrangement gives Bregman’s production company, Likely Story, a first look deal for all screen adaptations of Top Shelf’s library.   Too Cool is set to be Likely Story’s first Top Shelf adaptation and according to Pajiba, it now seems that comedian David Wain is interested in directing the movie.

No word yet on who might be up for the lead role or when production might begin.  We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.

I LOVE YOU, MAN Blu-ray Review

I Love You Man movie image - slice (1).jpg

How can you not be down with Paul Rudd? His career renaissance is one of the best parts about comedies in the 21st century, and since The 40-Year-Old Virgin he’s been an actor you can count on to just take it home. A lot of this rebirth has to do with his great turn in Wet Hot American Summer (a film that helped launch a number of talents, like Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks), but audiences seem to have fallen in love with him all over again. As well they should. And with I Love You, Man and Role Models he even gets to headline films, though paired with another comic actor. My review of I Love You, Man after the jump.

THE STATE The Complete Series DVD Review

A lot of time when you’ve waited anxiously for something for a long period of time, when that special something finally arrives in your greedy little paws, it turns out to be a bit of a disappointment. I was worried that my rose-colored glasses might have the better of me after the decade and a half wait for The State to come out on DVD.  About five minutes into viewing, I realized the worry was for naught – this collection can still make me laugh all these years later.  The nice thing – it will make you laugh too. My review is after the jump:
