The intense, gripping drama series Sons of Anarchy has become the most-watched series for FX and has developed a devoted fan base rivaled by few other TV shows currently on the air. So, it was no surprise that it was honored at the 29^th Annual William S. Paley Television Festival, saluting excellence in programming.

During the March 7^th panel, a few hints were given about story direction and character development for Season 5 (the most notable of which was that it will pick up about a month after where Season 4 left off), which starts shooting in May with a September premiere date, and an update was given about a possible prequel series. There’s a bitter pill to swallow in owning the Deadwood complete series on Blu-ray. One of the best shows ever to be on television, Deadwood ends unceremoniously. There is no sense of closure, there is no sense of a finished narrative – creator David Milch gets a twenty minute segment on the set to talk about the end of the show and expresses nothing but frustration about the show’s demise. He tries to intellectualize it, but struggles to come to grips with the euthanasia HBO performed. Alas, with an existing set and the cast of characters Deadwood had it was not a cheap show, and where The Wire was able to struggle against low ratings Deadwood fell because it never exceeded its modest but committed fanbase. But Deadwood is one of the best shows ever put to television, and I come here not to mourn its end, but celebrate its greatness. As cliffhangers go, fans of the show will remember, the ending of season two of FX’s Sons of Anarchy was a real doozy.

With the SAMCRO crew watching from the end of the dock, “Irish” absconded with Jax’s (Charlie Hunnam) baby Abel, while simultaneously, Gemma (Katey Sagal, yes, really) had been framed for two murders by agent Stahl (Ally Walker) and was on the lam with Police Chief Unser (Dayton Callie).  Got all that?
