On the red carpet at tonight’s Saturn Awards, I was able to interview Bruce Greenwood.  We talked about J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling, Atom Egoyan‘s Devil’s Knot (which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and follows the true story of the West Memphis Three case), and more.

For fans of Star Trek, I asked Greenwood about filming with IMAX cameras, what the first few days were like on set, lens flairs, what it was like being on a fully constructed Enterprise bridge, and the size of Pike’s role in the sequel.  Hit the jump for what he had to say.

Production has officially commenced on two upcoming projects.  First up, filming is underway in Atlanta on the real-life drama Devil’s Knot, directed by Atom Egoyan.  The film stars Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and follows the true story of the West Memphis 3 case, in which three teenagers were wrongfully charged with murdering three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in the 1990s.  Witherspoon plays the mother of one of the victims, while Firth plays the private investigator hired to look into the case.  The cast also includes Amy Ryan, Dane DeHaan, and Stephen Moyer.

Additionally, production has begun in New York on the relationship drama Very Good Girls.  Directed by Naomi Foner, the film stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen as two best friends determined to lose their virginity, only to fall for the same boy.  The cast also includes Boyd Holbrook, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin, Richard Dreyfuss, Peter Skarsgaard, and Clark Gregg.  The score will be composed by Jenny Lewis. We’ve got a few set photos to share this afternoon.  Briefly:

• Taylor Lautner and Patrick Schwarzenegger were spotted on the set of Adam Sandler’s first-ever sequel, Grown Ups 2.  The young duo were seen doing regular “cool guy” stuff like fiddling with a football, wearing tight jeans, and sporting super neato sunglasses.  The two play members of a fraternity, so the bro-ing out may or may not be in keeping with their characters.
• Rachel McAdams was seen filming a labor scene for director Richard Curtis’ (Love Actually) time travel romantic comedy About Time.
• A pregnant Reese Witherspoon looks eerily like her real-life counterpart in set photos from Devil’s Knot.  The film also stars Colin Firth and follows the true story of the West Memphis 3 case, in which three teenagers were wrongfully charged with murdering three young boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in the 1990s.

A trio of actors have landed some pivotal roles in director Atom Egoyan’s drama Devil’s Knot, which centers on the West Memphis 3 murder case.  For those unaware, three teenagers were convicted of killing three boys in Arkansas in 1993 despite the absence of physical evidence; they were eventually released in 2011 after countless private investigations.  Reese Witherspoon stars as the mother of one of the victims, while Colin Firth plays a private investigator hired to take on the case.  THR reports that Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek) and Michael Gladis (Mad Men) have joined the cast, with Greenwood set as the controversial judge who put the West Memphis 3 away and Gladis poised to play the defense attorney for suspect Jessie Misskelly, Jr.

Additionally, Deadline reports that Matt Letscher (Scandal) will play the defense attorney for suspect Jason Baldwin.  Production on Devil’s Knot begins next month, with Amy Ryan, Dane Dehaan, Mireille Enos and Alessandro Nivola rounding out the cast.

Tonight, casting agents found actors most of their supporting roles based on real-life people:

• Ashley Charles will play Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in the Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side, led by Andre 3000 as Hendrix.
• Martin Scorsese cast Margot Robbie as the female lead opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, based on a memoir by Jordan Belfort.
• Seth Meriwether signed on to play one of the West Memphis Three in Devil’s Knot.
• Donal Logue will play the right hand man of CBGB owner Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) in CBGB.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share this afternoon.  First up, Bill Paxton is lining up a big project to follow the success of his History Channell miniseries Hatfield & McCoys.  Variety reports that Paxton is in talks to join the crime actioner 2 Guns.  Based on the graphic novel by Steven Grant, the film stars Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington and centers on a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unknowingly investigate each other as each is stealing money from the mob.  Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur is onboard to direct, and we recently learned that Paul Patton is also in talks to star.  Paxton will apparently play a high-ranking CIA operative.

• Disney’s Maleficent has crowned Brenton Thwaites (Home and Away) to play the prince in the Robert Stromberg-directed adaptation.

Colin Firth is set to co-star with Reese Witherspoon in Atom Egoyan‘s adaptation of Devil’s Knot.  The film is based off Mara Leveritt‘s novel of the same name, which centers on the West Memphis Three.  For those who don’t know, the West Memphis Three were three non-conformist teenagers who were arrested and convicted for the murder of three eight-year-old boys despite flimsy evidence and the jury’s ignorance and prejudice.  The three remained in prison for almost 20 years on a crime they obviously didn’t commit.  Their story was chronicled in the documentary Paradise Lost (and its two subsequent sequels) and the new documentary, West of Memphis.

Director Atom Egoyan’s (Chloe) next project Devil’s Knot is based on the true events surrounding the 1993 murder of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas, and the subsequent arrest of three teens suspected of committing the murders through satanic rituals. Taking its title from the Mara Leveritt book by the same name, Devil’s Knot will presumably take a dramatic look at the investigation of the case, both by the local police involved and by journalists like Leveritt who found the arrest and conviction of the West Memphis Three highly suspicious. While details on the film are short, Reese Witherspoon is reportedly attached to star as Pam Hobbs, a mother of one of the victims who is at first convinced of the teenagers’ guilt, but starts to question their conviction once the case drags on.
