Disney has staked its claim in the first two filmgoing seasons of 2012, with 3D tentpoles now set to anchor spring and summer.  When Tim Burton first revealed he would adapt his 1984 live-action short Frankenweenie — in which a man resurrects his dog from the dead — into a 3D stop-motion animation feature film, the director had a 2011 release in mind.  However, Disney has officially slated Frankenweenie for release on March 9, 2012.

Fellow 3D flick John Carter of Mars will hit theaters just three months later on June 8, 2012.  Pixar’s own Andrew Stanton (WALL·E) is the writer/director behind this adaptation of the first book in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Barsoom Series,” set on “the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings.”  Talor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Cranston, and Lynn Collins star.

Disney Animation Studios is getting a bit clever with the title for the next film as Producer Roy Conli has announced [via Facebook] that their 2010 film will no longer be called Rapunzel and will now be known as Tangled.  Here’s what Conli had to say:

“Hey everyone, I’m Roy Conli, producer of Disney’s next animated film. I have some exciting news to share, and it was important to me that YOU guys – the Disney fans – hear it first. I want to tell you about Walt Disney Animation Studio’s 2010 release, Tangled. It’s a really fresh, smart take on the Rapunzel story.  In our film, the infamous bandit Flynn Rider meets his match in the girl with the 70 feet of magical golden hair. We’re having a lot of fun pairing Flynn, who’s seen it all, with Rapunzel, who’s been locked away in a tower for 18 years.  I’m so proud of the crew working on this film – they’re doing a fantastic job creating an awesome story with great characters and a stunning world – and it’s all going to look amazing in 3D. All of us here at the studio are incredibly excited for you to see Tangled when it comes out in theaters this November.”

Hit the jump for more details on the film including the style of animation they’re using.  Tangled is slated to hit theaters on November 24th.

Spike TV has posted a sort of new trailer Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”.  Though most of the footage will look familiar to anyone who caught the teaser trailer that Disney released a few months back, new footage is mixed throughout including extended shots of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter that hint at how spectacular the film will look in its Disney Digital 3D and IMAX formats.  Peek down the rabbit hole after the jump.
