THE EXPENDABLES: DIRECTOR’S CUT Blu-ray Review

by Scott Wampler    Posted: December 26th, 2011 at 6:00 am

When The Expendables dropped last year, many felt that—while Sylvester Stallone’s heart was in the right placed—the film failed to live up to expectations (there’s also a strong, vocal minority that love the film, and we should all just go ahead and assume now that they’re going to take issue with this statement).  Surprisingly enough, one of these people seems to be…Sylvester Stallone, who introduces the new Director’s Cut of The Expendables by saying, “I liked the theatrical version, but I love this (version)”.  Have improvements been made?  Is the film really and truly better?  And how can one tell, if one immediately forgot the first film almost as soon as they’d seen it?  Find out in my review of The Expendables: Director’s Cut, after the jump.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West (The Mechanic).  It’s a teaser that doesn’t get into plot, or even showcase any major action.  At this early stage, with over 9 months to go until the August 17 release, the film is selling itself entirely on the reputation of the cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If you are interested in the plot, the studio also unveiled the first official synopsis for The Expendables 2 along with a new promo poster.  See it all after the jump.

New Images from THE EXPENDABLES 2 Set Featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: November 8th, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Production on The Expendables 2 is currently underway, and we’ve got some new images from the set. They give us our first look at Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as glimpses of Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews, and more. The cast reads like a Who’s Who of badassness (as evidenced by the recent set photos of the one and only Chuck Norris), with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, and Jason Statham among the actors involved in the action pic, as well as newcomer Liam Hemsworth. Hit the jump to check out the images. The Expendables 2 opens August 17th, 2012.

Set Photo from THE EXPENDABLES 2 Gives First Look at Chuck Norris

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 24th, 2011 at 1:28 pm

While the list of names rumored to be appearing/approached to appear in the action sequel The Expendables 2 reads like a Who’s Who of ass-kicking, it’s been a bit of a guessing game as to who will actually show up in the finished film. A few weeks ago we got a look at Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone on set, and today we’ve got another set photo featuring notorious roundhouse-kicker Chuck Norris, as well as Terry Crews and Dolph Lundgren. That leaves John Travolta and Donnie Yen as currently unconfirmed rumored additions. We recently reported that Mickey Rourke won’t be returning for the sequel.

Hit the jump to check out the set photo. The film also stars Jet Li, Jason Statham, and Jean Claude Van Damme. The Expendables 2 opens August 17th, 2012.

Rumored Cast for EXPENDABLES 2 Includes Schwarzenegger, Willis, Travolta, Van Damme, and Chuck Norris

Filming on the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s 2010 all-star action movie The Expendables is set to begin in September, and now rumors are starting to swirl about what action heavyweights will be along for the ride this time around. Shooting will be taking place in Bulgaria, and the CEO of Bulgaria-based NU Boyana studios David Varod recently dropped some huge names when listing the cast for The Expendables 2 to Novinite: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis.

We expected Stallone, Statham, Lundgren and Rourke to return, but this is the first time we’ve heard of Travolta, Norris and Vam Damme’s involvement (Stallone has been wanting Schwarzenegger and Willis to return for a while). However, just because Varod listed them off doesn’t mean all of these actors mentioned are definitely in the film. Hit the jump for more.

Laura Vandervoort Returns SMALLVILLE, Betty White Joins COMMUNITY, Dolph Lundgren & Harry Dean Stanton for CHUCK slice

Here’s a bit of ripe TV casting news including a superhero, a villain and a sweet old lady. First up, EW reports that Laura Vandervoort will reprise her role as Clark Kent’s cousin Kara (aka Supergirl) to wrap up the character’s story with one episode during the final season of Smallville. Vandervoort hasn’t been seen since the seventh season of the series, but she’ll be making he final appearance as Supergirl fairly early on in the final season with the episode tentatively set to air sometime in October. Surely there’s plenty more surprises in store for Smallville fans as the series comes to an end after ten seasons.

Hit the jump for casting additions to the Emmy snubbed comedy series Community and the solid action-comedy series Chuck.

THE EXPENDABLES “Call to Arms” Trailer

The Expendables latest trailer came out a few days ago so we’re a bit late posting this, but we pretty much had to because it’s amazing.  It will remind you why it is your duty as an action fan to see this movie.  This newest trailer is a call to arms for men to take back the box office in the name of “the only men they’re allowed to love.”  The Expendables, which was directed and co-written by star Sylvester Stallone, is opening on August 13th against the Julia Roberts drama Eat, Pray, Love, and like the trailer says, “if this movie loses to Eat, Pray, Love, you don’t deserve to be a man.”  I’m not even a man, and I almost feel like I won’t even deserve to live if I don’t see this movie.

THE EXPENDABLES Behind the Scenes “Hostages” Featurette

Lionsgate has released a new Behind the Scenes Featurette on the making of The Expendables.  The featurette is the first in a five-part series, with a new one premiering every Thursday from now till release.

This first one focuses on filming a hostage scene and the video has interviews with a lot of the crew and even Harry Knowles from AICN on set while they were filming.  What’s well done about the 4 minute clip is the way it mixes in behind the scenes footage with final movie footage (including a shot with a lot of blood!).  If you’re looking forward to The Expendables, this clip is only going to get you more excited.  Hit the jump to check it out.

THE EXPENDABLES Sneak Peek Plus New Images

Lionsgate has released a few new images and a “sneak peek” from Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables.   Starring almost every action star on the planet, The Expendables gets released August 13 and I can’t wait.  I heard they did a test screening not too long ago here in Los Angeles that went over huge.  Apparently people were screaming in the theater and having a blast while watching it.  Based on the first trailer and the new sneak peek…I believe it.  Hit the jump to take a look:

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren to Star in Universal Soldier IV 3D

Jean-Claude Van Damme Dolph Lundgren Universal Soldier IV 3D slice

In July of 1992, Universal released the Roland Emmerich movie Universal Soldiers.  Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren as soldiers who kill each other in Vietnam but are reanimated in a secret Army project, the film had mild success at the box office but it still spawned a number of sequels.

And like the soldiers brought back to life in the films, Foresight Unlimited can’t let the franchise die, as they’ve announced Universal Soldier IV with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren  returning to star and this time they’re going to kill people in 3D.  No word on what the film is about…but I’ll take a wild guess it involves guns and violence.  John Hyams will be directing the project that starts shooting in October. via THR

THE EXPENDABLES Trailer

The trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables has come online and it’s not good.  It spoils the Schwarzenegger cameo (we knew he was in the film, but they didn’t have to show us his scene), every attempt it makes at humor falls flat, the part where it tries for soulful reflection is where the movie looks funny, and I think the picture has become clear that this is what happens when you make a movie based solely on servicing the fans of B-action pictures.  Oh, and when they do all the actors’ last names at the end of the trailer they leave out Terry Crews.  No one leaves out President Camacho.  Also, Stallone looks like hell and should really lay off the human growth hormone.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the official synopsis.  The Expendables hits theaters on August 13th.

THE EXPENDABLES Update – Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger Filmed Together Earlier Today

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: October 24th, 2009 at 4:33 pm

slice_schwarzenegger_stallone_willis_01.jpg

Earlier today, while most of us were trying to enjoy our Saturday, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger filmed a scene together for “The Expendables”. If you’re a fan of action movies, this is like Christmas morning. While the scene in question is just a small part of the movie…who cares! These three action stars have never worked together and even if it’s just for a moment in the movie, this is another reason why “The Expendables” is going to be awesome. More after the jump.
