The outrageous action-adventure flick Drive Angry arrives on DVD and Blu-ray in both 2D and 3D on May 31st, with bonus content the includes audio commentary with director Patrick Lussier and writer/actor Todd Farmer, deleted scenes, “Milton’s Mayhem,” through which viewers can track the trail of carnage throughout the film, and an “Access: Drive Angry” special feature (exclusive to the Blu-ray release).

During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Patrick Lussier talked about what fans will get to see on the DVD/Blu-ray, why he enjoys doing filmmaker commentaries, filming such epic car chases and fight sequences on a tight budget, and why bad-ass characters appeal to him. He also talked about how he and Todd Farmer are currently developing their take on Clive Barker’s Hellraiser for a remake, and said that they also hope to be able to do Halloween 3. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Oh, the irony.  On the very day that Hollywood will fete its highest achievements of the past year, we are here to consider releases that reside in its creative basement.  After a Friday win, newcomer Hall Pass could not hold off holdover Gnomeo and Juliet. After two weeks at number three, the all-ages animated film won the weekend with an estimated $14.2 million. Sad for Hall Pass but it could have been worse: Drive Angry 3D now holds the record for the lowest opening ever for a 3D wide-release.

Title Weekend Total
1 Gnomeo and Juliet $14,200,000 $75.1
2 Hall Pass $13,400,000 $13.4
3 Unknown $12,400,000 $42.8
4 Just Go With It $11,100,000 $79.3
5 I Am Number Four $11,000,000 $37.7
6 Justin Bieber $9,200,000 $62.7
7 The King’s Speech $7,610,000 $114.5
8 Big Mommas 3 $7,550,000 $28.5
9 Drive Angry 3D $5,100,000 $5.1
10 The Roommate $2,000,000 $36.5

Friday Box Office – HALL PASS Number One with a Weak $4.6 Million; DRIVE ANGRY Can’t Crash the Top Five

Traditionally the last week in February is no barn burner in terms of ticket sales.  Sure, last year saw Shutter Island open to over $14 million on its first Friday but in 2011 it looks like that figure will be hard for any release to top after three days let alone one.  The new Farrelly Brother’s comedy Hall Pass led on Friday with a weak $4.6 million from its 2,950 locations.  Last weekend’s number one film Unknown was not far behind with $3.9 million.  Without a strong Friday showing, and with its R rating taken into account, we should see Hall Pass slide down to number three by Sunday.  That’s good news for Gnomeo and Juliet which has a real shot at topping the box office for the first time in its three week run. Finally, what can I say about Summit’s Drive Angry?  Nic Cage’s latest action flick brought in just $1.6 million on Friday from its 2,290 locations (97% of which screened the film in 3D).  That is $2 million less than Cage saw for Season of the Witch just six weeks ago. Details and analysis tomorrow.

Title Friday Total
1 Hall Pass $4,600,000 $4.6
2 Unknown $3,900,000 $34.3
3 Just Go With It $3,200,000 $71.4
4 Gnomeo $ Juliet $3,100,000 $64
5 I Am Number Four $3,100,000 $29.8

With Patrick Lussier’s (My Bloody Valentine 3D) revenge thriller Drive Angry 3D getting released today, I was able to interview most of the cast earlier this week.  Here’s Nicolas Cage & Amber Heard and Billy Burke.  Since we’ve been covering the film since its inception, most of you know it’s about a felon (Cage) who is chasing the people who killed his daughter (Burke) and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control and the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies everywhere.  Chasing Cage is someone called “the accountant”, and he’s played by William Fichtner who steals the movie with his performance.

During my interview with Fichtner, we talked about how the film compared to what he thought it would be, the action, filming in 3D and working with the cameras, what films/TV shows do people always want to talk to him about (I mentioned Contact and Go), and he told me a great story about how the suit he wears in the film is actually his that he brought to set.  Hit the jump to watch:

Billy Burke Video Interview DRIVE ANGRY 3D slice

With Patrick Lussier’s (My Bloody Valentine 3D) revenge thriller Drive Angry 3D getting released tomorrow, I was able to interview most of the cast at yesterday’s press junket.  Since we’ve been covering the film since its inception, most of you know it’s about a felon (Nicolas Cage) who is chasing the people who killed his daughter (Billy Burke) and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control and the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies everywhere.  Also in the film are Amber Heard, David Morse and William Fichtner.

Anyway, during my interview with Burke, we talked about his unique look in the film (long hair, black nail polish), filming in 3D, the action scenes, what did he do while in filming in Louisiana, and he also gave me small updates on Red Riding Hood and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.  Hit the jump to watch:

Until the Academy loosens up about bullets, boobs, and inexplicable Nicolas Cage hairpieces, we can only dream of a fantastical world where Drive Angry 3D has a shot at Best Picture nomination.  Still, the marketing folks behind the movie decided to have a little laugh and give the movie a red-band trailer with all of the prestige of an Oscar film and none of the dignity.

Hit the jump to check out the NSFW red-band trailer.  Drive Angry 3D also stars Amber Heard and William Fichtner.  The film opens February 25th.

DRIVE ANGRY 3D Motion Poster

With director Patrick Lussier’s (My Bloody Valentine) 3D revenge flick Drive Angry 3D getting released February 25, Summit has released a very cool motion poster to help promote the flick. Starring Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke, and David Morse, Drive Angry 3D is about a tough as nails criminal (Cage) who breaks out of Hell on a quest for redemption. Fichtner plays a character simply named “The Accountant”, a mysterious demonic agent sent to retrieve Cage and return him to the fiery depths from which he came.  I did a set visit last year and everything I learned while there tells me this is going to be an extremely fun ride that you’re going to want to take.

For a taste of what’s to come, watch this NSFW clip.  Otherwise, hit the jump to check out the poster, or click here for all our previous coverage.

New Poster for DRIVE ANGRY 3D Starring Nicolas Cage

When he’s not busy punching women/screaming about bees, Nicolas Cage stars in movies. With each new Nicolas Cage movie, comes a new hairstyle. I’m sorry, did I say hairstyle? I meant awesome hairstyle.  Next up for Cage is Patrick Lussier’s (My Bloody Valentine 3D) revenge thriller Drive Angry 3D, featuring a brand-new awesome hairstyle. The film stars Cage, Amber Heard (Zombieland), David Morse (Disturbia) and William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down).

We previously brought you the first images from the film, which look decidedly bad ass. Cage stars as Milton, the tough as nails criminal who breaks out of Hell on a quest for redemption. Fichtner plays a character simply named “The Accountant”, a mysterious demonic agent sent to retrieve Milton and return him to the fiery depths from which he came.  Hit the jump to check out the full poster. Drive Angry 3D will be released on February 25th.

New Image plus NSFW Movie Clip from DRIVE ANGRY 3D

Today we have a new image plus a definitely-NSFW clip from the upcoming Nicolas Cage action flick Drive Angry 3D.  The image is SFW unless your workplace doesn’t allow you to look at images of Amber Heard smiling at a bloodied-up Nicolas Cage.  However, unless you work in a very lax environment, your bosses and co-workers will probably frown on you seeing a clip of Nicolas Cage having sex with a naked chick (even though he’s fully clothed) while he has a gunfight with folks coming to kill him.  Watch the clip when you get home because it makes the movie look like a pile of trashy fun.

Hit the jump to check out image and the NSFW clip.  Drive Angry 3D opens February 25th.

SDCC 2010: Director Patrick Lussier Exclusive Interview DRIVE ANGRY

by Hunter Daniels    Posted: July 24th, 2010 at 7:52 pm

Breaking out of the direct-to-video dungeon can be a difficult, if not insurmountable task, but Patrick Lussier has done just that. Originally a successful editor working on many of Wes Craven’s films, Lussier began his directorial career helming sequels to Dracula 2000. He followed those up with White Noise 2: The Light. But when given creative control, he turned out 2009’s spectacularly fun 3D gorefest, My Bloody Valentine 3D. Now he’s working with Nicolas Cage, William Fichtner, and David Morse on Drive Angry, a film that looks to be his best yet judging from the fairly spectacular Comic-Con reel.

Read on for our one-on-one interview where he talks about demons, muscle cars, shooting Nic Cage in the face, and getting co-writer Todd Farmer naked and dead, for the second time in a row.

SDCC 2010: Amber Heard DRIVE ANGRY 3D Interview

As with almost every young actress in Hollywood Amber Heard is incredibly, devastatingly gorgeous.  However, unlike many of her counterparts she is also incredibly poised, surprisingly eloquent, and most unexpected of all, quite well read.  In our one on one interview, Heard discusses Drive Angry, her art, her desire to be more than just the bathing suit, her love of Bret Easton Ellis and Hunter S. Thompson, and speaks frankly about her distaste for the film adaptation of The Infomers.

Read on for the interview and a short review of her upcoming horror film, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane.
