After heavy speculation, it’s looking like The Lizard will be the villain in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. As we previously reported, Rhys Ifans is playing the villain in the film, which stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spidey and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. In an interesting side-note, TheWrap is also reporting that, contrary to an earlier rumor, Venom is not going to be in the movie. So I can at least feel a sigh of relief due to that character’s omission.
For those who don’t know, The Lizard’s alter-ego is mild-manner Dr. Curt Connors. Connors accidentally became The Lizard during an experiment in which he attempted to re-grow his amputated arm. Connors was played in Spider-Man 2 and 3 by Dylan Baker. Hit the jump for a brief recap on what else we currently know about Webb’s reboot thus far along with a brief bio on The Lizard. The untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Walt Disney has released new character posters for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the first poster for Secretariat. Check them all out after the jump.

Walt Disney has released three high resolution images from their upcoming horse racing “drama” Secretariat. Since anyone who follows horse racing or watches ESPN knows the story of Secretariat (spoiler alert: he was the last Triple Crown winner back in 1973), I don’t know how this is a drama as it looks like a made for TV movie with great actors and a higher budget. But Disney knows how to sell ice to Eskimos, so I’m sure by October I’ll want to check it out. Hit the jump for the images and the info on the movie:

Movieline is reporting that John Malkovich will play the Vulture in Spider-Man 4 and that Anne Hathway-who had previously been connected to the role Black Cat-would play an entirely new character called “The Vulturess”. No one should have to deal with this kind of batshit insanity when they first turn on their computer.
For those not up on their Spidey lore, the Vulture is an old man who flies with razor sharp wings and employs a harness that gives him super-strength. /Film says that “all information is pointing to the Vulture (aka Adrien Toomes) taking over the Bugle,” but I haven’t seen that information and /Film provides no source for that speculation at this time. As for Black Cat (aka Felicia Hardy), she is an anti-hero who is a cat-burglar but also frequent Spidey ally and love interest who doesn’t know his true identity. But Movieline says that in the place of the Cat, Hardy would become the Vulturess whose affiliation and powers remain unknown. Finally, the story notes that there’s no room for Spidey villain the Lizard (aka Dr. Curt Conners) which has again been nothing but wishful thinking with only rumors to suggest that Dylan Baker, who played Conners in Spider-Man 2 and 3, would finally transform into the giant reptile.
This is all very exciting, albeit completely out of left-field, and it should be interesting to see how this story develops. However, let me stress there is no official report that Malkovich or Hathaway are involved with the film or that any of these characters will be featured. Well, except for Spider-Man. He’ll probably be in the movie.

Word has come in on good authority that Sam Raimi is starting to cast the villains and supporting cast of Spider-Man 4, and it looks like Rachel McAdams has met with producers to take a hefty role, most likely Felicia “The Black Cat” Hardy. Sources also indicate, but don’t yet confirm, that Black Cat will be the second of two villains, the other likely being Lizard with Dylan Baker reprising the role of Dr. Conners. More on the update after the jump.

It may have been a foregone conclusion, but Dylan Baker himself confirmed the good news that he would indeed be reprising his role as Peter Parker’s one-armed Professor/mentor, during a Q&A for Mike Dougherty’s “Trick-r-Treat” (which, by the way, everyone should see, because it’s awesome). While Dr. Connors has appeared in minor roles in the first two Spidey flicks, usually with fewer lines than Bruce Campbell, there has been constant chatter on the interwebs that this may be the film where we finally see Connors transform into the vicious Lizard. For a few more details on what was said at the Q&A, change out your web cartridge and hit the jump.

The story behind Trick ‘r Treat is almost as interesting as the film itself. Finished in 2007, the film got caught up in some politicking and marketing concerns. Not a very expensive movie – after being sneaked in LA, and shown at Butt-Numb-a-Thon – it’s just now coming out on DVD and Blu-ray. Somewhat unfairly. My review after the jump.
