With the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3 2012) set to kick off on June 5th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, we thought we’d bring you a preview of some of the major video games that are going to be on display.  This year will feature a new installment in the Halo franchise, a return to form for the groundbreaking Tomb Raider series and a few new LEGO games that will please fans of DC heroes and Lord of the Rings alike.  There’s also talk of a new game from LucasArts, titled Star Wars 1313 but unfortunately there’s no video to share as of yet.
As someone who grew up with blocky monochrome pixels bouncing around the screen, I’m continually impressed by the level of realism and beauty that comes out of these games.  Hit the jump to check out a variety of jaw-dropping trailers and previews.

Nintendo Announces Wii U at E3; a New Way to Play the Same Old Franchises [UPDATED]

If Nintendo brought the same innovation to their software titles as they did to their hardware development, they wouldn’t need to make ten Mario games a year with some Zelda, Kirby, StarFox, and Metroid thrown in for good measure.  At this year’s E3, Nintendo announced their next generation console, the “Wii U”.  Let’s just get past the awful name.  Nintendo says it has to do with personalization (and then they showed nothing at their presentation to reflect that personalization) and I guess that means “iWii” and “uWii” were out.

But the name doesn’t matter.  The games matter…insofar as they show off Nintendo’s latest hardware innovation which is a controller that has a giant touchscreen in the middle.  Hit the jump for more on the Wii U, Nintendo’s E3 presentation, and my thoughts on both. [Updated: We've now added footage of the presentation, which you can check out after the jump.]

With E3 2011 kicking off today at the Los Angeles Convention Center, many of the video game industry’s most anticipated titles have released new footage to reassure people like me that many of their release dates cannot get here soon enough (well, except for maybe all of the new Kinect titles…I don’t mind waiting around to not play those). Varying from debut trailers to gameplay walkthroughs/demos, after the jump you can find a roundup of some of the latest footage from games such as Batman: Arkham City, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Halo 4 and the anniversary Halo: Combat Evolved, Star Wars Kinect and Star Wars: The Old Republic, Mass Effect 3, and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

New Trailer for STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC

It’s tough for me to get excited for anything Star Wars (over-exposure and the stain of the prequels) and I’m no fan of MMORPGs (I don’t play well with others), but I can’t help but admire the sheer ambition of BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic.  This trailer not only hints at the number of characters and worlds you’ll be traversing, but the fact that they’ve also managed to include space battles intrigues me.  I’m not sure if it will all come together, but it certainly looks like The Old Republic will be the MMO that can draw everyone who fled from Star Wars Galaxies.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and be on the lookout for more coverage on the game when E3 begins tomorrow.  Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to be released in the second half of 2011 for Windows PC.

E3 2011: New Trailers for TOMB RAIDER, SOUL CALIBUR V, and SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD

E3 doesn’t technically start until Tuesday, but all the developers are trying to get a jump on each other which is funny because that means no one gets a jump on anybody.  I assume the plan is to get people excited with a trailer and then at E3 the developer will show some of the game and explain what players can do in it.  There will be presentations, there will be demos, and the only thing you’re not likely to see at E3 is Nintendo announcing an IP that isn’t based off a pre-existing property.

Trailers have gone online for a bunch of games, but I’m not going to turn this site into GameTrailers, so here are the trailers for the reboot of Tomb Raider (no gameplay shown, but plenty of awful voiceover dialogue), Soul Calibur V (cheesy story and voice acting, but the games have always been fun), and Saints Row: The Third (no gameplay, but a previously released screenshot showed your character beating someone with a dildo bat so I’m sold).  Hit the jump to check out the trailers.

First Look at New STAR TREK Video Game

With E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) almost upon us, most of the major gaming studios are tying to get the jump on the event by throwing out trailers and images for their upcoming titles.  Today, we received a press release regarding a new Star Trek game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.  The new game will take place in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek continuity and be a co-op experience where players take on the roles of Kirk and Spock.  God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk penned the script in consultation with Star Trek and Star Trek 2 writers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman.  The game is being developed by Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2) and is set for release in summer 2012, which would coincide nicely with Trek 2 if that film still manages to hit its June 29, 2012 release date.

Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez Interview 2010 Saturn Awards – Stars of CHUCK on Comic-Con, Next Season, TRON Posters, E3, More

Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez Backstage Interview 2010 Saturn Awards slice

If you’ve been reading Collider for any length of time, you know we’re all huge fans of NBC’s Chuck.  While getting any show on the air is hard, getting more than one season is even tougher.  That’s why I’m beyond excited that Chuck is coming back for a 4th season this fall.  And it’s not just because Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez say “Collider” 10 times during the interview you’re about to watch.  It’s because both Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez are awesome together on screen and they’re both extremely grounded and two of the nicest people I’ve ever had  the chance to interview.  Also, they both waited around at last week’s Saturn Awards until Guillermo Del Toro was done doing interviews so they could get their picture taken with him.  How many actors would have done that?

Anyway, during my backstage interview with Levi and Gomez, they talked about last season and the way things changed on the show.  They also talked about the upcoming season, Comic-Con, will they change the Tron poster in Chuck’s bedroom to a Tron: Legacy poster, how disappointed they are that GDT isn’t doing The Hobbit, what did they see and love about this year’s E3 (they’re both gamers), and a lot more.  If you’re a fan of Chuck, I promise you’ll love the interview.  Hit the jump to take a look:

E3 2010 Day 3: MORTAL KOMBAT, GRAN TURISMO 5, SCOTT PILGRIM, RAGE and more

E3 2010 slice

On day three of E3, it was time to make a killing. On day one I’d sampled the PlayStation Move, Microsoft Kinect and more while day two consisted mostly of waiting hours to play The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Nintendo 3DS. For the final few hours of the Electronics Entertainment Expo it was time to check out the few things that had eluded me on the days before. And that mostly consisted of violence. I checked out the new Mortal Kombat, Gran Turismo 5 in 3D and the top secret Bethesda Studios booth that held Fallout: New Vegas and Rage, one of the most buzzed about titles of the whole Expo.

Hit the jump to read my impressions of those games and more, including Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

E3 Day 2: Nintendo Changes the Game with the 3DS, Plus The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, More

E3 slice The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword 3DS

Leave it to Nintendo to succeed where Hollywood has failed. For the past year, everyone in the movie industry had been talking about 3D. All our movies are being released in 3D, all our best filmmakers are either shooting or considering 3D and it seems that only one thing is between the third dimension in film going and total domination: Those pesky glasses. Well, at E3 2010 in Los Angeles, California, Nintendo introduced the Nintendo 3DS. It’s just your run of the mill, even your baby sister has one, Nintendo DS portable gaming system with one major difference. It displays 3D without the glasses.

I waited over an hour to play with the Nintendo 3DS and then an additional hour to play the most anticipated Wii game of 2011, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. And that was just the beginning of an important Wednesday at E3. Hit the jump for more and don’t forget to check our our extensive gallery and coverage from Tuesday.

E3 2010 slice

Earlier today I attended the opening day of E3 2010.  While the last few years had E3 toning down the excess, this year was a return to lavish parties with organizers burning hundred dollar bills in the streets.  Okay, maybe not that last part.  But this year really is the return of E3 being a monstrous spectacle of noise and commotion, as once you’ve spent a few hours on the convention floor,  you really want a break from everything.  However, with so many of you not being able to gain access to the convention floor, I figured the best thing I could do was take a ton of photographs, so you could see what the convention was like for yourself.

What I decided to do was post the images as I shot them.  That way you can see the lines to get in and also observe the convention floor as I experienced it.  If you’re looking for booth babes, I’ve got them.  If you want to see what the Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony booths were like, I’ve got that too.  But what I also tried to capture was a lot of the little things that perhaps some of the other sites might have missed….like Tron video game controllers!  I’ve posted over 100 high-resolution images from E3 2010, so hit the jump to check them out!

Collider Visits E3: NBA JAM, TRON: EVOLUTION, MICROSOFT KINECT and more

E3 2010 slice image

I alley-ooped with Kobe Bryant, shot spells as Harry Potter, rode a light cycle inside Tron and danced like a monkey in a bubble. Yes, E3 must be upon us.

E3, the Electronics Entertainment Expo, is like San Diego Comic Con with more interaction and less people. This industry only event is the most important video game conference in the world because everyone who works with video games not only gets to see what everyone in the business is doing, but get a hands on test of the goods. E3 continues through Thursday at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.

Collider will be at E3 each day giving you an idea of what exactly goes on behind those closed doors. Hit the jump to read all about Tuesday at E3 and check back to read about more throughout the week.

E3 2010 – Pictures of TRON EVOLUTION Banners, MORTAL KOMBAT Banner, and Mickey Mouse

Tron-Evolution-video-game-e3 slice

E3 starts tomorrow.  In case you don’t know what E3 is…it’s the biggest video game convention of the year and it takes place here in Los Angeles.  While they tried to tone it down over the past few years, the convention is back and bigger than ever.  I’ll be attending tomorrow to take a ton of pictures of what I think is cool.

While I thought I’d have to wait till then to post my first image article, thanks to a Collider reader named Dan, we’ve got a first look at a few images from the convention.  He sent over some pictures of the Tron Evolution banners hanging in the main walkway, the new Mortal Kombat game banners which feature “fatality” and “finish him”, and some weird looking Mickey Mouse type banners.  In his email he said security was tight and while he wanted to takle more photos, they always stopped him.  Obviously you can expect a huge image article tomorrow night.  Until then, check out what he sent after the jump:

Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez Red Carpet Interview – 2009 Saturn Awards

by     Posted: June 25th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

chuck_nbc_tv_show__5_.jpgLast night was the 2009 Saturn Awards. Like previous years, I was on the red carpet and backstage interviewing tons of the presenters and winners. Since I interviewed twenty something people, it’s going to take me some time to edit everything, so keep checking back over the next few days for tons of great interviews.

Anyway, the first interview from last night is with Zach Levi and Joshua Gomez. As some of you know, the two of them play best friends on NBC’s “Chuck”, and as you’ll see in the interview, they’re not acting, as they’re great friends off screen as well.

During the interview we talked about their new facial hair, Comic-Con, E3, driving Nerd Herder’s around Burbank, and a lot more. Take a look after the jump:
