E3 2009

E3 2009 Wrap-Up

by Brandon Bales    Posted: June 9th, 2009 at 3:09 am

e3_2009_logo_01.jpgAnother E3 has come and gone, and this year, luckily was a bit more fun than last.  Yep, bigger booths and actual babes go a long way in sprucing up the proceedings.  The announcements made were about as fun, while nothing completely revolutionary was revealed.  Let’s take a look at what we got.

MICROSOFT

The flashiest announcement came from Microsoft in the form of their new “controller-free” peripheral, Project Natal.  The name will surely change, but it’s essentially a camera that tracks precision motion, as well as patterns, such as facial features.  This allows for a lot of speculation about how the camera might be used, but could end up being just a lot of “Imagineering” (as they say over at Disney).  While it will surely track motion, we would warn any interested parties that the preview video for the device that’s floating around the ‘net epresents only ideas at this point.  Yes, gaming guru, Peter Molyneux has shown the facial recognition to work in his behind-closed-doors demo of his new MILO, the majority of the fine mechanics of the machine have yet to be demonstrated.  Take it all with a grain of salt, of course, as with any new gaming peripheral – let’s not forget how gaga we went over the Nintendo Wii’s controls, and that some of its potential has still yet to be realized…

E3 2009 Day 2 – Brett Reports on MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2, DJ HERO, and The Triumphant Return of Booth Bunnies!

e3_2009_booth_babes_01.jpgNow that booth babes have made their illustrious return to E3, so, too, have the rolling good times. I’m told some jackass last year gave these fine creatures, typically eager models clad in skimpy skirts, knee-high pleather boots, and lots of glitter, the heave-ho opting for a more ‘professional, focused environment.’ Clearly, the corporate goons had their vice grips tight on the balls of Gotham City, but thankfully reason prevailed in this recession and so has the money. E3 boasts, by all accounts, twice the exhibitors than last year spread now over two floors at the LA Convention Center, and certainly more than twice the fun.

But let’s not give all the credit to the beautiful women who cheer your high score or, in my case, de-stroy you repeatedly at Tekken 6 in front of your peers. The games weren’t too bad, either.

E3 2009 In Pictures – Ton’s of Pictures from the Convention Floor

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: June 2nd, 2009 at 11:48 pm

e3_logo__1_.jpgSince the large majority of you won’t have access to E3, I figured the best way to cover the convention would be to take a ton of pictures. Also, since Brandon Bales is writing about all the games, no reason for both of us to cover the same stuff.

Overall, this year is a return to the glory days of E3. While it’s not as loud and crazy as year’s past as I didn’t leave with a headache, it’s a welcome change from last year – which was as worthless a convention as they’ve ever done.

So if you’re curious what the booths and convention floor looked like, after the jump are over 50 pictures. Take a look:

E3 2009 Day One – Brandon plays DARK VOID, RESIDENT EVIL: DARKSIDE CHRONICLES, LOST PLANET 2, MURAMASA, BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM, and LEFT 4 DEAD 2

e3-logo-headline.jpgE3 is too much for one man.

Today marks my second-ever year at E3, and let’s just say that this show rocks you.  It rocks you something good.  Even last year’s convention – which everyone told me was ridiculously tame compared to previous years – was overwhelming.  This year’s, which has been heralded as a near ‘return to form,’ is one day gone, and it was bonkers.  There are simply oodles and oodles of content.  So, let’s jump right into what we were able to focus our attention on for more than sixty seconds!

After the jump, you can read what I thought about Dark Void, Resident Evil: Darkside Chrinicles, Lost Plant 2, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Lost Planet 2:

E3 2009 – Pictures of the Heavy Loader from James Cameron’s AVATAR

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: June 2nd, 2009 at 4:10 pm

Avatar.jpgToday is the first day of E3 here in Los Angeles and I just got back from the convention center. In a little while I’ll be posting another article filled with a lot of images from the convention floor, but the photos you’re about to see are worth their own post.

About a week ago, the website Marketsaw posted some spy pictures of what they called ‘heavy equipment’ from James Cameron’s “Avatar”. Unfortunately, they only had one image and you couldn’t see the entire suit.

But at the Ubisoft booth they had the ‘heavy lifter’ on display and I was able to snap a number of photos. While I have no idea what it does in the movie, I’m sure it must be important if they brought it to the convention.

Unfortunately, I never made an appointment to play the game as I figured it would be on display. Bad move on my part. So here’s one image with a lot more after the jump:
