After we reported that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) was set to direct Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows) in the feature film version of The Night Stalker, all that was left to complete was attaching a writer. Surprise! The powers that be have tapped D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) to script the big screen adaptation of the 1970s series. The original show followed Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin), a Chicago-based tabloid reporter who always seemed to find himself rooting out a supernatural source to the crimes he investigated. The show, created by Jeff Rice, only ran for one season but did well in syndication; well enough that Depp, Wright and now DeVincentis are all attached for the feature treatment. THR reports that DeVincentis is the latest addition to The Night Stalker project, making it the most recent development in his resume that includes the Stephen Frears-directed, Lay the Favorite and the adaptation currently-in-production, King Dork.

Fans have been curious about Marvel’s Ant-Man for quite some time. Edgar Wright is attached to direct, and he’s been working on the script for the past few years alongside Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish. The Avengers made an insane amount of money, so all eyes are on what Marvel Studios has coming up. Marvel president Kevin Feige recently revealed that there are two unannounced Marvel projects currently in development, in addition to Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2. With word that Ant-Man was coming along nicely, many were hoping that the superhero pic would be Wright’s next film. However, the director recently set a September start-date for a third film with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost called The World’s End.
Confirmation that The World’s End is finally happening was fantastic news, but fans were left wondering what that meant for Ant-Man. Wright recently appeared on Empire’s podcast and he talked a bit about fans being impatient regarding Ant-Man. Hit the jump for more.

Here’s a piece of news that is undeniably off the chain. After years of waiting and months of teasing, director Edgar Wright is set begin filming The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost this September. The third entry in the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” that began with the zombie flick Shaun of the Dead and continued with the action-leaning Hot Fuzz has been promised for a long time now, and this past January Wright and Pegg revealed that they were “hard at work” on the film’s script. Pegg recently wrapped J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, and earlier today tweeted that he’s moving straight into Frank Darabont’s L.A. Noir TV pilot, after which he’ll “be an author again,” followed by a job involving “plasma and gelato.”

Writer-director Edgar Wright took to Twitter this weekend to tease his long-awaited adaptation of Marvel’s Ant-Man. Wright has been attached to the project for years, but took time for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and now he’s attached to direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker, and he’s working on the script for The World’s End with Simon Pegg. However, Ant-Man still has a strong possibility of being Wright’s next picture. Marvel Studios’ President of Production Kevin Feige says the project is “as close as it’s ever been”, and now Wright has posted an image on Twitter referencing the superhero.

Last year’s Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival included screenings of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan & J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, a Jon Favreau-hosted double bill of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and Warren Beatty opened the festival with his 1990 film Dick Tracy. The event sounded like a lot of fun and proved more than insightful with some truly swell panels. The line-up for this year’s iteration of the festival has been announced, and as expected it’s a fun mix of old and new films with special guests galore. Hit the jump for more info.

Back in January, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg shared an image of the two “hard at work” on the script for The World’s End, the concluding chapter in the unofficial “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” which includes Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Following the success of the latter, Wright, Pegg and Nick Frost got busy with their separate projects (though the break gave us such excellent flicks as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Star Trek, and Paul). Pegg is currently in the middle of filming J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, but earlier today he tweeted a lovely image of a completed draft of the script for The World’s End. With Marvel and Disney’s The Avengers opening around the world in the coming weeks, last night was the world premiere in Hollywood and it was also the first time members of the press were shown the film. As you may have already read on my Twitter feed, I loved it and think Joss Whedon delivered a movie that both fans and casual moviegoers are going to love. Also, it’s really funny and it has the best action of any Marvel movie thus far.
Anyway, just an hour ago I got to sit down with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Since I already posted an in depth conversation with him when I visited the set of The Avengers last year, I decided to use my limited time to discuss Marvel’s future projects like Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, the Avengers sequel and whether Joss Whedon is signed to come back, what movies are coming in 2014 and 2015, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, if Marvel is making an animated movie, another Hulk movie, and so much more. Back in December, we shared some swell photos of a one-of-a-kind LEGO set that LEGO-fied the characters from Shaun of the Dead. At the time, the prospects of the set becoming a reality were grim given that LEGO doesn’t necessarily make sets based on R-rated zombie movies. However, one thing LEGO didn’t anticipate was the persistence of one Simon Pegg. In order to even be considered by LEGO, a project must reach at least 10,000 supporters. Pegg lobbied hard on Twitter to make this a reality, and last Saturday “the Winchester project” finally reached the numbers needed to submit to LEGO. Hit the jump for more, including video of Pegg talking about the sets on Conan.

2007′s Superbad was a huge launching point for everyone involved (except for poor Martha MacIsaac even though she was quite good in the film). Now, a table-read for the film has landed online. Looking back at over six-minutes of the actors reading the script, I’m instantly reminded of how sweet, funny, and filthy the film is. Some of the jokes in the table read are different, particularly the stuff between Evan (Michael Cera) and Becca (MacIsaac). Also, “Becca” was originally called “Helen”, and her Becca’s friend “Gabby” was originally named “Becca.” Clearly, these minor changes will make you rethink the entire film (it will also make you want to watch Superbad immediately).

Last summer we learned that Johnny Depp and his Infinitum Nihil production company had teamed up with Disney on two potential projects: a drama centering on Paul Revere and a feature film adaptation of the 1970s TV movie The Night Stalker. The latter was being developed as a potential starring vehicle for Depp, and now Disney has made an inspired directing choice for the project: Edgar Wright. The original Night Stalker TV movie and subsequent series focused on tabloid reporter Carl Kolchack, whose investigations always lead to perpetrators of the supernatural sort (ie. zombies, vampires, werewolves, oh my!). Hit the jump for more on the project and the nature of Wright and Depp’s involvement.

In 2004, there was Shaun of the Dead. In 2007, there was Hot Fuzz. Now, if Twitter is to be believed, there will soon be The World’s End. Writer/director Edgar Wright posted a picture on Twitter today titled only “Hard at work.” Next to him was writer/actor/super-spy-extraordinaire Simon Pegg, pondering the inevitability of The World’s End. Along with Nick Frost, the two have worked together on the above-mentioned films and have long-expressed the desire to complete the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream in each movie. (It’s also called the “Three Flavours Trilogy” as red strawberry is featured in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz referenced a blue Classic flavor. The World’s End is said to showcase green mint chocolate chip.) While plot details are short at the moment, fans will want to hit the jump to check out the dynamic duo hard at work.

Edgar Wright likened Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to a musical, except where musicals break into song, Scott Pilgrim broke into fight. For a future project, Wright may turn pacifist and direct a straight-up musical. Wright recently hosted a screening series at the New Beverly in Los Angeles, where the theme was movies he had never seen. He explained the selection of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg like so:
“I’ve written a script which is kind of like a musical. Slightly a departure for me in some ways, but when I’ve told people about the movie and the idea, most of them have said, ‘You’ve got to see Umbrellas of Cherbourg.’ So here we are.”
Hit the jump for speculation on where this musical fits into Wright’s upcoming slate.

Fans of trio Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have been anxiously awaiting any fresh developments on the final installment of their “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, The World’s End. The first two films were Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and the trilogy has its name due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream. In March 2009, Pegg said they were planning to shoot The World’s End in the fall, but obviously that never came to fruition. In June of this year, Pegg said he and Wright were aiming to get started on the script, and now it looks like they’ve completed at least their first draft. Hit the jump for more.

Besides being the writer/director/producer of phenomenal films, Edgar Wright is quite the cinephile. He’s programmed a number of fantastic line-ups at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, and he’s currently prepping a new program entitled “Films Edgar Has Never Seen.” If you’re like me, and are incredibly frustrated that you don’t live in L.A. and thus have never been able to attend an Edgar Wright-billed line-up, you’re in luck. Just in time for Halloween, Wright has put together a 24-hour horror movie marathon that you can stage on your own. The films all follow a theme, and are programmed to the specific time of day that they’ll be playing. Hit the jump to find out what they are.

Earlier this month, we posted five short clips from Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. Just today we brought you a new official poster and some fan-made opening credits. Now, we have the new trailer for the mo-cap project that showcases a bit more action than the UK one that posted recently.
The Adventures of Tintin is based on one of the most popular comic book series in Europe and as such, will open in the UK on October 26th. Since our American sensibilities need some time to warm up to this foreign hero, the film will open stateside on December 21st. The Adventures of Tintin stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig and was produced by Spielberg and Sir Peter Jackson. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.
