In 2004, there was Shaun of the Dead. In 2007, there was Hot Fuzz. Now, if Twitter is to be believed, there will soon be The World’s End. Writer/director Edgar Wright posted a picture on Twitter today titled only “Hard at work.” Next to him was writer/actor/super-spy-extraordinaire Simon Pegg, pondering the inevitability of The World’s End. Along with Nick Frost, the two have worked together on the above-mentioned films and have long-expressed the desire to complete the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy,” due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream in each movie. (It’s also called the “Three Flavours Trilogy” as red strawberry is featured in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz referenced a blue Classic flavor. The World’s End is said to showcase green mint chocolate chip.) While plot details are short at the moment, fans will want to hit the jump to check out the dynamic duo hard at work.

Edgar Wright likened Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to a musical, except where musicals break into song, Scott Pilgrim broke into fight. For a future project, Wright may turn pacifist and direct a straight-up musical. Wright recently hosted a screening series at the New Beverly in Los Angeles, where the theme was movies he had never seen. He explained the selection of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg like so:
“I’ve written a script which is kind of like a musical. Slightly a departure for me in some ways, but when I’ve told people about the movie and the idea, most of them have said, ‘You’ve got to see Umbrellas of Cherbourg.’ So here we are.”
Hit the jump for speculation on where this musical fits into Wright’s upcoming slate.

Fans of trio Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have been anxiously awaiting any fresh developments on the final installment of their “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy, The World’s End. The first two films were Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and the trilogy has its name due to the presence of bloody violence and Cornetto ice cream. In March 2009, Pegg said they were planning to shoot The World’s End in the fall, but obviously that never came to fruition. In June of this year, Pegg said he and Wright were aiming to get started on the script, and now it looks like they’ve completed at least their first draft. Hit the jump for more.

Besides being the writer/director/producer of phenomenal films, Edgar Wright is quite the cinephile. He’s programmed a number of fantastic line-ups at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, and he’s currently prepping a new program entitled “Films Edgar Has Never Seen.” If you’re like me, and are incredibly frustrated that you don’t live in L.A. and thus have never been able to attend an Edgar Wright-billed line-up, you’re in luck. Just in time for Halloween, Wright has put together a 24-hour horror movie marathon that you can stage on your own. The films all follow a theme, and are programmed to the specific time of day that they’ll be playing. Hit the jump to find out what they are.

Earlier this month, we posted five short clips from Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. Just today we brought you a new official poster and some fan-made opening credits. Now, we have the new trailer for the mo-cap project that showcases a bit more action than the UK one that posted recently.
The Adventures of Tintin is based on one of the most popular comic book series in Europe and as such, will open in the UK on October 26th. Since our American sensibilities need some time to warm up to this foreign hero, the film will open stateside on December 21st. The Adventures of Tintin stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig and was produced by Spielberg and Sir Peter Jackson. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block pretty much amazed everyone who go the chance to see it this year. Throughout its numerous special screenings and limited theatrical run, it captivated audiences with its of-kilter alien invasion story set in South London. Given that the film is so loved by the people, naturally there’s been talk of possible sequels. At this summer’s Comic-Con, Cornish revealed that producer Edgar Wright had come up with an idea for the sequel, though he was remiss to reveal just what the idea entailed. However, the film’s star John Boyega has been coming up with ideas of his own, and recently Cornish revealed what Boyega would have in store for the characters if he had his way. Hit the jump to find out what it was, and for Cornish’s comments on a possible American remake and TV show spinoff.

While Marvel has been pretty upfront about their slate of films in the past, giving audiences a long lead-in to the far off films like Thor and Captain America, their next slate of movies after The Avengers has been much more quiet. Now it looks like the cat’s been let out of the bag, as Marvel’s next five movies after their all-star superhero flick includes: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Inhumans. We knew about Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, as they both had release dates, and Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man had been up in the air for a while, but the other two are relatively new additions. Hit the jump for the details.

If you’re like me, and you’ve been insanely jealous of all those folks who have gotten to see Joe Cornish’s much buzzed-about Attack the Block, then I’ve got some very exciting news for you: Sony Home Entertainment is set to release the Edgar Wright-produced flick on Blu-ray and DVD on October 25th. Pretty much everyone who has seen the alien invasion film has loved it (including Matt and Steve), and I’ve been waiting in vain each week to see if it will finally screen in my city. If you’ve thus far been shit out of luck like me, or if you’ve already seen the film and want to own it so you can share it with every single person you know, all will be well next month.

Director Ben Wheatley was already slowly but surely making a name for himself with 2009′s acclaimed crime/comedy Down Terrace and his most recent effort, Kill List, which hits theaters in the UK and Ireland on September 2nd. This in mind, the buzz surrounding Wheatley will most likely continue to rise going forward as it looks like his next pic, the dark comedy Sightseers, is being executive produced by Edgar Wright at Big Talk Productions.
Wheatley revealed Wright’s involvement in the pic to The Playlist over the weekend at Empire Big Screen 2011. The film, which is written by and co-stars Alice Lowe (Hot Fuzz) and Steve Oram (Wheatley’s aforementioned Kill List), is based on a short film and follows a pair of “psychotic caravaners.” Film4 is also on-board to produce Sightseers alongside Wright/Big Talk with production set to begin around the beginning of October. In addition to working with Wright on Sightseers, Wheatley will also work with Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost and Spaced‘s Michael Smiley in the comedy I, Macrobane. Wheatley says that production on that project will begin next year after Sightseers is in the can.

I have to give Edgar Wright credit for consistently giving audiences movie marathons. Whether he’s showcasing his own movies or programming at the New Beverly, if you’re going to an event hosted by Wright, odds are you’re seeing more than one movie that night. On August 26th, Wright will be hosting a triple-bill of his films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (“plus numerous odds and ends from his oeuvre e.g. the Grindhouse trailer ‘Don’t'”) at San Francisco’s Castro Theater. Wright will be on hand to introduce each film and do a Q&A and tickets only cost $15. That’s a steal. If for some reason you need more convincing, you can buy a limited edition poster that artist Alex Pardee drew up for the event. Pardee will sell any remaining posters at his website, Zerofriends.

One of the most buzzed about movies of the year is Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block. Following its premiere at SXSW (where the film played like gangbusters), the flick has been hosting advance screenings across the country. Matt loved it, and so did Bill and Steve. Cornish and producer Edgar Wright, as well as star John Boyega were present at Comic-Con today for the film’s Hall H panel and we were there to cover. To sum up, I must see this movie as soon as humanly possible. In addition to Attack the Block, Wright gave updates on Ant-Man and the third film in his “Cornetto Trilogy” with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Hit the jump for my recap.

The Joe Cornish-directed alien invasion film Attack the Block has landed at Comic Con. Though it’s on the small end of the budget scale when compared to summer blockbusters, it may very well turn out to be the best bang for your buck in 2011. After receiving praise at SXSW and earning critical supporters both in England and stateside, Attack the Block is now only one week away from limited release in the states. The involvement of executive producer Edgar Wright and Big Talk Productions, known for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs the World, have led many people to draw direct comparisons to these movies. However, I think that while Attack the Block might have the same popcorn appeal and light-hearted character as these other films, it stands apart from them in many other ways. Hit the jump for my thoughts as well as a Q&A from Cornish, Wright and principal actor John Boyega.

I’ve raved about Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block, Scott loved it, Steve’s loved it, and plenty of other online writers have cheered it on as well. And if you don’t like our opinions, the film has picked up accolades at the SXSW and Los Angeles Film Festivals. I’m not sure how much convincing you need to see this film, but for Comic-Con attendees who can’t wait to see this flick, I’ve got some great news. Collider will be giving out 5 pairs of tickets to a special Comic-Con screening of the flick. Additionally, you can click here to register for free passes on a first-come, first serve basis, but our winners will be guaranteed seats. If you do get passes through RSVPing and not directly through us, be sure to show up early as your pass does not guarantee you a seat.
Furthermore, folks at the Comic-Con screening will be treated to a Q&A with Cornish, executive producer Edgar Wright, and star John Boyega. Hit the jump for more details on the screening, the Comic-Con panel for the film, and to find out other sites that are giving away tickets. Attack the Block hits theaters in the US on July 29th.

Last Thursday Universal Pictures held a dinner with Simon Pegg and director Greg Mottola to help promote the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Paul, which hits stores on August 9. Pegg was very tired but remained in high spirits as he chatted about everything from the basics of story structure to his favorite Dr. Who iteration. We’ll have the full story closer to the disc’s street date, but we have some choice cuts for you today.
Between courses Pegg dropped some interesting crumbs about a sequel to Paul that could be called Pauls, his work on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and how Star Trek 2 is going to affect The World’s End. Hit the jump for the quotes.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you know that Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block has some serious, serious buzz. The flick premiered at SXSW to wildly enthusiastic reviews, then a couple of LA screenings had those in attendance gushing about the imaginative action-thriller. Steve saw the film and loved it, and Matt’s a fan as well. And now, audiences all over the country will finally get a chance to see the film everyone’s talking about, and soon! Sony/Screen Gems has just announced (via Box Office Mojo) that Attack the Block will open in limited release on July 29th.
Written and directed by Cornish, and co-produced by Edgar Wright, the film stars Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost. After hearing for months how fantastic it is, I personally cannot wait to see this thing.
