Sundance 2012: First Images from THE END OF LOVE, FILLY BROWN, THE FIRST TIME, and THE SURROGATE

Today, the 2012 Sundance Film Festival announced their In-Competition line-up, and that means we’re about to get a boatload of new images from upcoming films.  After the jump you’ll find synopses and the first images from The End of Love (starring Mark Webber, Michael Cera, and Amanda Seyfried), Filly Brown (starring Gina Rodriguez, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Edward James Olmos), The First Time (starring Dylan O’Brien, Brittany Robertson, and Craig Roberts), and The Surrogate (starring John Hawkes, Helen Hunt, and William H. Macy).

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival runs from January 19 – 29th.

DEXTER Season Six Premiere Review

When we reunite with our favorite serial killer Dexter (Michael C. Hall) for the season six premiere, it’s been a year since our dark passenger helped and hooked up with the troubled Lumen (Julia Stiles) and brought down twisted self-help guru Jordan Chase (Jonny Lee Miller). While the previous seasons have had Dexter attempting to fit in through love and romantic relationships, this year he and his dark passenger are having a crisis of faith, at least when it comes to raising his toddler son Harrison. Really, the idea of romance all but disappears as various relationships from previous season (we won’t say which ones) have all pretty much crumbled, which makes for quite a lot of tension around Miami Metro Police Department. However, despite the high amount of tension that rises rather quickly in the first three episodes of the season, there also seems to be a higher level of humor, other than the usual dark fare, than other seasons. But that’s just the beginning of the strange changes happening in Miami. Hit the jump for the rest of my review of the sixth season of Dexter.

After taking this summer to catch up on all five seasons of Showtime’s fantastically bloody serial killer drama Dexter, my excitement for the premiere of the sixth season on October 2nd simply cannot be contained. Therefore, I’m very pleased to direct your attention to this great new behind-the-scenes featurette which delves into some of the bigger plot points that will dominate this season. From Dexter’s newfound interest in religion, to a quick sneak peek of Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks as a couple of creepy new characters, this is a great, informative tease for the sixth season which can’t get here soon enough. Edward James Olmos Joins Season Six of DEXTER

We’ve already heard that Mos Def and Colin Hanks would both join the sixth season of Showtime’s acclaimed series Dexter, and now yet another fine actor has joined the guest star line-up. The cable network has revealed that Edward James Olmos, star of such films as Blade Runner, Stand and Deliver and the series remake of Battlestar Galactica, will return to TV for an extended character arc on the series. Olmos will play a brilliant, charismatic professor of religious studies, but it’s not yet clear how he gets caught up in Dexter’s exploits in the forthcoming season. Production begins on May 25th in Los Angeles, and season six is slated to premiere sometime this fall on Showtime. I’m sure there’s plenty more guest stars to be revealed so stay tuned.

New International Trailer for THE GREEN HORNET Starring Seth Rogen

A new international trailer for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet has gone online.  There’s just enough new footage to make it worth your time.  While the trailer itself doesn’t sway me one way or another, reports are starting to leak out that the film is getting a highly positive reaction.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz.  It’s set to open in 3D on January 14, 2011.

Sony has finally released a real trailer for Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet and I think it looks great.  While I wasn’t sure what to expect from a film that has Seth Rogen as the lead in an action movie, I’m a lot more on board with the film after watching the trailer as Green Hornet isn’t trying to sell Rogen as some hard core fighter.  Instead, Rogen plays a spoiled rich kid who after the mysterious death of his father, decides to get his act together by fighting crime in the city.  I can buy that premise.

While Green Hornet has been battling some negative buzz online, I think this trailer is going to shut a lot of people up. Judge the footage for yourself after the jump – and take a look at a few new high res images and the updated synopsis:

Exclusive: Edward James Olmos on the Future of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA – More Could Be on the Way!

With “Battlestar Galactica: The Plan” hitting DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, Captain Adama himself Edward James Olmos (who also directed the film) did a bunch of interviews earlier today. Thankfully, I was offered a spot and just an hour ago I was sitting in a room in Studio City talking about “The Plan”. While we talked about how he got involved and the normal stuff, I did find out some major info if you’re a fan of the series. It seems that if “The Plan” sells 5 million copies, Olmos was told we’d get more straight to DVD “Battlestar Galactica” movies!

But it gets better.

Not only could we be getting more “Battlestar” movies but Olmos told me what some of them could be about! According to Olmos, some of the future movies could be about where the final five Cylons came from and how were they created; what really happened to Starbuck and what she was; or if you want to know what happened after the finale ended you MUST buy “The Plan”. While some fans might not want to see everything explained and others may have soured after finale (although I think the latter group is insane) if you love the “Galactica” universe and want to watch more adventures, you’ve got to buy a DVD or Blu-ray of “The Plan”.  And with that, hit the jump to watch me and Olmos talk about “Battlestar Galactica” and the future of the franchise:

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: THE PLAN Blu-ray Review

I have a lot of enthusiasm for Battlestar Galactica. I was a latecomer to the series, but once I discovered it, the show quickly became a personal obsession. Every night I would burn through two, three or four episodes at a time, until I was too tired to keep my eyes open. Now fans have received, as a sort of epilogue to the series, The Plan. Admiral Adama himself, Edward James Olmos, directed this high-definition widescreen digital extravaganza. The Plan refers back to the text that glowed over the opening credits of all four seasons of the series: “The cylons were created by man. They evolved. They rebelled. They look and feel human. Some are programmed to think they are human. There are many copies. And they have a plan.” The makers of Battlestar Galactica even joked in the DVD extras of Season 4.5: “So, what the frack was the plan?” This is the attempt at an answer. My review after the jump:

Bryan Singer may be ready to reboot Battlestar Galactica (again) on the big screen, but the critically acclaimed Syfy series isn’t quite over. The show ended last Spring, but one last 90 minute special, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray October 27. Admiral Adama himself, Edward James Olmos directed the special, with Jane Espenson as a writer and executive producer. What it’s about and the DVD cover art after the jump.

Nicolas Cage Flies Away from THE GREEN HORNET

I feel really bad for “The Green Hornet”.  I know that it’s just a movie and that it has no emotions what so ever, but I can’t help but feel bad for the poor ol’ film. I’m sure you guys have been following the problematic production for the past year or so and now that things finally looked like it was going to get better, we now get news that Nicolas Cage, who was set to play the film’s villain, has dropped out.  This doesn’t look too good for the film since the film just started principal photography last week.  You can read more details when you hit the jump.

Filming Commences on THE GREEN HORNET

While many thought “The Green Hornet” would never get made due to all the problems finding a director and Kato, thanks to a press release from Columbia Pictures, we know filming has actually begun!

I know some of you aren’t excited to see “Green Hornet” and to those…I’m sorry. Because any film directed by Michel Gondry is worth seeing and this is going to be the biggest budget he’s ever had. Come on…aren’t you a little bit curious? Anyway, I’ve posted the press release after the jump so take a look:

Edward James Olmos Joins Michel Gondry’s THE GREEN HORNET

Now that we know who will be playing Kato in Seth Rogen’s masked crime-fighter flick, “The Green Hornet”, director Michel Gondry is turning his attention to the film’s supporting cast.  According to Hollywood Snitch, one of those (as yet unspecified) supporting roles will be played by Edward James Olmos of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Stand and Deliver” fame.  “Hornet”, which co-stars Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz, begins shooting this month for a planned July 2010 release date.  We’ll fill you in as we learn more.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Season 4.5 DVD Review

Finally, the last Battlestar Galactica episodes have been released to the world of DVD! This is important because I watched the series strictly on DVD, and not as they aired on television. For the record, I have been dying to know what the heck happened to the rag-tag fleet and a bunch of dispirited cylons after they found earth, and amazingly, with the exception of a few small plot details, I was unable to predict how the series finally ended. As Admiral William Adama on “Battlestar Galactica”, Edward James Olmos delivered one of the best performances in sci-fi history. It’s the type of performance people are going to remember for a long time as he showed mainstream audiences what great science fiction is all about.

While “Battlestar Galactica” had its series finale earlier this year, for fans of the show, we’ve got one more thing left to watch. That’s because a lot of the cast filmed a TV movie called “The Plan” and it shows part of what happened in the Battlestar universe from the Cylons perspective.

According to Edward James Olmos, once we see the movie, it’ll make us want to watch the entire series all over again!

Anyway, at last night’s Saturn Awards I managed to get some time with the great actor backstage. After the jump you can see the interview. We talked about his thoughts on the series being over, what’s “The Plan” about, this year’s Comic-Con, and his thoughts on the finale. Take a look:
