The first trailer and poster for The Bourne Legacy have gone online.  The central message of the trailer is this: Jeremy Renner can kick the shit out of people just as well as Matt Damon. It’s clearly the same Bourne flavor, and audiences will be happy to get another great actor beating up bad guys. The editing moves so fast that it’s tough to tell how much writer-director Tony Gilroy‘s style will differ from Paul Greengrass‘ (who directed Supremacy and Ultimatum), but I’m eager to see what Gilroy has in store.

First Trailer for Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM

The first trailer for Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom has gone online and the film looks unmistakably Wes Anderson.  It goes right up to the line of a parody, but it looks like the “Bad Dads” subtext has finally washed away.  Instead, the story centers on a young boy and girl who decide to run away together and the madness of the ensuing search.  There looks to be more quirks than you can shake a branch-with-nails-sticking-out-of-it at, but Anderson’s always added enough depth and shading to his characters to make those quirks work.  If you hate Anderson’s work, there’s no way this is going to turn you around; for everyone else, it looks like he’s back in fine form with a seriously funny movie.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman, and Kara HaywardMoonrise Kingdom opens May 25th.

Director Tony Gilroy is looking to cast a big name as the villain in The Bourne Legacy, with Variety reporting that Edward Norton is now in negotiations to take on the role. After a lengthy casting search, the powers-that-be finally settled on Jeremy Renner take on the lead role in the Matt Damon-less reboot. Gilroy wrote the script for the film, which will take place in the same universe as the first three Bourne Identity flicks, though the character of Jason Bourne will be absent (which pretty much renders the “Bourne” in the title moot, save for franchise recognition). Rachel Weisz is also onboard to star in the film. Hit the jump for more.

New Set Photos for Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM; Harvey Keitel Confirmed to Join Cast

Wes Anderson may have gotten has filmography back on track with the charming Fantastic Mr. Fox but he’ll be headed back to live-action for his next feature, Moonrise Kingdom.  The film already has an impressive cast that includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and now, according to The Film Stage, Harvey Keitel.  The story “follows a young boy and girl (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing.”

Some set photos from the film have leaked online and one of them shows Norton as a scout leader and another has Murray out of costume but being awesome (which is innate to Bill Murray).  Due to the cast and the story, Focus Features may give Moonrise Kingdom a summer 2012 rather than Anderson’s typical awards season bow.

Some directors don’t even need to chum the waters to attract the big sharks. Filmmaker Wes Anderson is setting up his next picture, Moon Rise Kingdom, and rumors are already in full swing about the A-list talent circling the picture, which is a period piece set in the 1960s. According to Deadline, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton are in talks to appear in the film, which was co-written by Anderson and Roman Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited). Producer Scott Rudin (Fantastic Mr. Fox) will join Anderson again with a target start of next spring. LEAVES OF GRASS DVD Review

by Bill Graham    Posted: October 19th, 2010 at 11:11 am

Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass is a rousing romp through the juxtapositions of a life of crime and a life of academia that never speaks down to its audience and provides plenty of dark humor and lasting impressions. The film’s veteran cast helps flesh out the background, and the interplay between two Edward Norton’s on screen is delightfully entertaining. Darkness, humor, pot smoking, and plenty of larger-than-life questions permeate this mixture of genres and topics, creating a film that you won’t soon forget. Edward Norton Developing LEWIS & CLARK Miniseries with Director John Curran for HBO

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: October 12th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

After collaborating on films like The Painted Veil and the recently released drama Stone, it looks like Edward Norton and director John Curran are working together again, but this time they’re bringing their talents to the small screen. In a recent interview with The AV Club, Norton revealed that he’s been working with Curran to develop a historical miniseries based on the Stephen Ambrose book Undaunted Courage, a biography about the famous explorer Meriwether Lewis and his journeys with William Clark.

Edward Norton Exclusive Video Interview STONE

I’ll admit to being nervous when I actually got the opportunity to interview Edward Norton during Fantastic Fest.  Not because of giddy joy (there was some of that as I am a fan of his work), but because he can come off as reserved and somewhat intimidating in his serious attitude.  However, the Norton I interviewed for the upcoming film Stone (read my review here) was relaxed and genial which resulted in a nice chat.  See the results after the jump as we talk cornrows, his gravitation towards films with ambiguity, and his adoration of Austin.  John Curran’s Stone hits theaters this weekend and stars Robert De Niro, Milla Jovovich, and Edward Norton.

Fantastic Fest 2010: STONE Review

by Bill Graham    Posted: September 30th, 2010 at 10:10 am

The relationship between a parole officer and an inmate is one with constant tension between what is and isn’t true. As John Curran’s Stone observes, how much truth is shared, if any, may never be known as the human drive to simply survive can create a powerful situation that is so believable, it might fool the very people meant to read through all the false fronts that are thrown their way. Religion, deception, reformation, seduction, and the power of lies are all explored as Stone (Edward Norton) weaves his way through our hearts and minds, leaving plenty of questions in the wake of the remarkable ending. Join me after the break for the full review.

Exclusive LEAVES OF GRASS Clip

by Bill Graham    Posted: September 28th, 2010 at 6:10 am

Edward Norton plays twin-brothers in Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass, and as we can see in this exclusive clip, the zany part isn’t just seeing two Norton’s on screen but also the wild story. Norton reportedly wanted this role so badly, he took a pay cut to play two characters in a single film. Unlike Fight Club, he actually plays both characters in this film. Check out the exclusive black light clip after the break and a full synopsis.

Mark Ruffalo in Late-Stage Talks to Play The Hulk in Marvel’s THE AVENGERS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 14th, 2010 at 11:50 am

Mark Ruffalo is reportedly in late-stage negotiations with Marvel Studios to play The Hulk in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.  After this past weekend’s announcements that Edward Norton would not be returning to play the Hulk, the studio has been trying to sign a new actor ASAP.  Marvel wants the main cast together when they make their “surprise” annoucement regarding The Avengers at their Comic-Con presentation on Saturday in Hall H.  The Avengers is set to star Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow).  Mike Fleming at Deadline observes (and I agree): “Like Edward Norton, whom he’d be replacing, Ruffalo would bring real chops to the role. But, unlike Edward Norton, he wouldn’t an on-set asshole.”

Hit the jump for other reasons why I think Ruffalo would be a pretty fantastic choice.

Edward Norton Confirms He Won’t Play Hulk in THE AVENGERS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 12th, 2010 at 1:05 pm

Consider this Confirmation #3 regarding Edward Norton not returning to play The Hulk in Marvel’s The Avengers. Norton has put out a message via his Facebook page stating “It seems it won’t work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in ‘The Avengers’.  I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone, but it hasn’t turned out as we all hoped.”

Norton’s announcement follows a press release from Marvel this weekend where the studio said they wanted an actor “who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members,” and Norton’s agent fired back in his own press release stating that the behavior of Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige was “unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory.”  Hit the jump to read Norton’s full statement to his fans.  The Avengers is slated to open on May 4, 2012.  It’s been rumored that Marvel may now want Joaquin Phoenix to play the Hulk.

Edward Norton’s Agent Fires Back at Marvel over AVENGERS Casting

by Jason Barr    Posted: July 11th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

It’s a good thing for Marvel Studios execs that Edward Norton hasn’t been exposed to gamma radiation like his on-screen counterpart, Dr. Bruce Banner, otherwise the threads of his shirt would be ripping as I type. In case you missed it, Friday we reported Marvel’s confirmation that Edward Norton would not be reprising his turn as The Hulk in the superhero crossover flick The Avengers. According to the press release Marvel sent Hitfix, Norton’s lack of involvement in the project was not a monetary decision but rather, “rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.”

You certainly don’t need a lot of experience in reading subtext to decipher that Marvel is calling into question Norton’s creativity (a seemingly unfounded accusation of an actor of Norton’s caliber) as well as his ability to be a team player (that may or may not be a different story). As a result, and in classic eye-for-an-eye style, today Norton’s agent Brian Swardstrom has come to his client’s defense with a press release of his own.

Hit the jump to check out Swardstrom’s full rebuttal as well as a brief overview of the Marvel/Norton story thus far.

Confirmed: Edward Norton Will NOT Be The Hulk in THE AVENGERS

by Jason Barr    Posted: July 9th, 2010 at 7:32 pm

With comic book movie casting news coming at us from every angle recently, today we finally hear from an old-friend you may have heard of: The Avengers. A HitFix report is claiming that, perhaps in spite of his best hopes, Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as “The Hulk” in Marvel Studios’ future blockbuster. It seems as if Marvel and Norton did not initially see eye-to-eye in terms of what the actor would make for his contributions. As such, the comic juggernauts now seem to be looking to cast the wardrobe-ripping member of the Avengers with someone more affordable (Note: “more affordable” is a euphemism for an “unknown”).

For more on the casting situation as well as a brief overview of what we do know about the film, hit the jump.

Update: Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige has sent HitFix a statement confirming Edward Norton will not be returning as Bruce Banner.  Hit the jump for more:
