Want to get off this filthy third rock from the Sun and join the affluent in the man-made space station Elysium? Well, if you have the right stuff – according to the automated Border Agent 002237 – you may very well find yourself living among the uber-wealthy. If you’ve got thin skin, I’d recommend steering clear since the test doesn’t pull any punches and manages to insult the unworthy on a number of levels. Head over to Elysium’s viral site and take the test to see if you’re one of the future elite.
Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Wagner Moura, Diego Luna and William Fichtner, Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium opens August 9th.

While I already posted the first posters for Spike Lee‘s Oldboy, James Wan‘s Insidious: Chapter 2, Robert Schwentke’s R.I.P.D., and a great display for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I’ve still got a ton of pictures left to post. However, rather than offering them up one article at a time, I’m grouping them all into one huge article.
While a lot of the posters you’ve previously seen, there are a few new things like the first logo for Paul Greengrass‘ Somali pirate pic Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks, the first poster for Where the Devil Hides, and the first display for Jimmy Hayward’s Free Birds starring Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson and Amy Poehler. In addition, you can also check out posters/displays for Star Trek Into Darkness, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, Despicable Me 2, Fast and Furious 6, Man of Steel, The Lone Ranger, The Heat, Elysium, The East, The Wolverine, The Mortal Instruments, and a lot more.

From time to time I like to use the opening paragraph to discuss my latest screenprint investments and/or dream items. This week I’m playing a similar note as I recently picked up Olly Moss‘ “Batman’s Rogues Gallery” set on eBay for very close to what the timed edition went for originally. Those of you who follow posters and prints know how redeeming it can be to finally get an item you originally missed out on without having to pay exponentially more than its original asking price. Now, if only Ken Taylor‘s Halloween print would stop being so rare/expensive, I could officially run out of room on my walls.
I’ll stop gushing and leave any more in-depth poster/print talk to our own Limited Paper. For my part, this week’s Top 5 includes the first trailer and a video blog recap of 10 minutes of footage from Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium, our White House Down set visit recap, an exclusive interview with Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull, the first trailers for Ron Howard‘s Rush, and an extended interview with Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael. As is customary, a brief recap and link to each is ready and waiting for your attention after the jump.

Following on the heels of the debut trailer and poster, Sony Pictures has released eight new images from Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium. The movie is set in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Matt Damon plays a desperate man who must reach Elysium in order to find a cure that will save his life. I’m digging everything I’m seeing from this film, and with four months until the release date, this is only the tip of the political-sci-fi iceberg.
Hit the jump to check out the images, and click here for Steve’s thoughts on the footage he saw yesterday. The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Wagner Moura, Diego Luna, and William Fichtner. Elysium opens August 9th.

The first trailer for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s highly anticipated sci-fi film Elysium has been released. The story takes place in 2159 where two classes of people are roughly divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. The trailer begins by showing us the luxurious world of Elysium before revealing the grungy, desert-like Earth. Blomkamp looks to have crafted an incredibly detailed and vast sci-fi world here, and the visuals are absolutely stunning. The action sequences look excellent as well and Damon appears to be kicking all kinds of ass, but most importantly Blomkamp has crafted yet another timely, socially-conscious story that speaks volumes to the current issues facing our world. A wholly original sci-fi property that asks audiences to think while also providing entertainment value in spades? Count me wholeheartedly in.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and click here for Steve’s video blog recap after seeing 10 minutes of footage and interviewing Blomkamp. The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner and Diego Luna. Elysium opens on August 9th.

Did you like District 9? Imagine if writer-director Neill Blomkamp had 100 million more dollars to play with and access to huge movie stars like Matt Damon and Jodie Foster to help tell his next story. You’d then have Elysium.
Ever since the movie was first announced, we’ve been covering it here on Collider, including its presence at last year’s Comic-Con. Since it’s the follow up to a great movie, we’ve definitely had high expectations. If the ten minutes of footage and the new trailer that I watched today at the Arclight in Hollywood are any indications, not only will our lofty expectations be met, they’ll be exceeded by far. We might be talking about the film of the summer. Continued after the jump.

After a screening of some footage from his upcoming sci-fi feature Elysium, writer/director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) talked about other projects he has varying levels of involvement in. He touched on his learning experience with the defunct Halo picture, possible sequels to his breakout film District 9 and his stance on directing original material, sequels to his own films and adapting popular properties. Blomkamp also teased a bit about iconic cinematic characters that he would love to get his hands on but is a bit too apprehensive about taking them on completely.

Sony has released the first poster for Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium. Earlier today, a group of movie journalists were brought to a special event for the film. Steve was among those invited, and I’m sure he’ll have his full thoughts online soon, but he tweeted “Just saw the new trailer and 10 min from #ELYSIUM. All I can say is WOW. Footage was incredible. Cannot wait to see this.” It’s not a surprising reaction considering that very early footage was shown at last year’s Comic-Con, and it was a huge success.
Hit the jump to check out the new poster, and come back tomorrow for the first trailer. The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner. Elysium opens August 9th.

One of my most-anticipated films of the year is Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium. The film was originally slated to open in March, but Sony Pictures decided to put it in the summer movie season, so we’re going to have to wait a little longer. The film definitely looks like it will carry on the smart, blockbuster sci-fi Blomkamp created with District 9, and hopefully we’ll see a trailer soon.

Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) reports that he’s just about finished up on Elysium and is starting to move forward with his third feature, a sci-fi comedy titled Chappie. Starring Matt Damon (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Jodie Foster (Contact), Elysium takes place in a dystopian future where the elite of humanity have fled to orbiting space stations while the poor are left to eke out an existence on a ruined Earth. Look for the film starting August 9th.
In the meantime, Blomkamp is prepping a return to Johannesburg for principal photography on Chappie, which he co-wrote with his wife, Teri Tatchell. Hit the jump for more on both projects.

One of our most anticipated films of this year is District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up sci-fi film Elysium. Though the film’s August release date means it will probably be this summer before we see an official trailer, we’ve already seen a couple of tantalizing images of stars Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley, and now a first look at Jodie Foster’s character has landed online. The story takes place in the year 2159 where people are divided into two classes: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Foster’s character runs Elysium, and these images give us a peek at her very corporate look. I caught a glimpse of Foster in action when we saw footage from the film at Comic-Con last year, and it looks to be quite the meaty role.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Elysium opens on August 9th.

Opening this weekend in limited release is director Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land. The film stars Matt Damon and Frances McDormand as natural gas salesmen who try to prey on an economic town in decline only to have their mission complicated by the citizens they encounter and an environmentalist played by John Krasinski. Damon and Krasinski wrote the screenplay, and the film deals heavily with the consequences of fracking. The film also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, and Titus Welliver. For more on Promised Land, here are seven clips and the trailer.
During the recent Los Angeles press day I got to speak with Damon. He talked about what surprised him when researching fracking, how the issue is very divisive, how lucky he’s been as an actor, and more. Damon also spoke about his reaction to seeing a rough cut of Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, confirms he’s doing George Clooney’s Monuments Men, and says he was happy to work with Terry Gilliam again on The Zero Theorem, but he only has a very small part. Hit the jump to watch.

While news is going to be slow over the next few days, thanks to Empire Magazine, we have something cool to post: the first look at Sharlto Copley as the villain Kruger in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium. The film is set in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Elysium was on track for a March 2013 release, but then the movie was pushed back to August 2013, which is the same weekend Blomkamp’s District 9 was released in 2009.
While Sony has yet to release a trailer for Elysium, I’d imagine we’re going to see one very soon. The film also stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and Wagner Moura. Hit the jump for the full image and you can watch my comic-con video interviews with Foster and producer Simon Kinberg by clicking the links. Here’s all our previous Elysium coverage which includes our comic-con recap and images.

Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium was one of the best-looking films I saw at Comic-Con this year. The film is set in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Elysium was on track for a March 2013 release, but then the movie was pushed back to August 2013, and that’s probably the smart decision. March has become insanely crowded, and Elysium feels like a big summer movie anyway (it’s also coming out the same week as District 9 did back in 2009). Today, a new image of star Matt Damon has been released. Damon plays a man who’s forced to become a cyborg and travel to Elysium in order to retrieve a cure that would save his life.
Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, and Diego Luna. Elysium opens August 9, 2013.
