The first trailer for the thriller Mobius has popped online. Directed by Eric Rochant, the thriller takes place in Monte Carlo in the world of high finance and stars last year’s Best Actor winner Jean Dujardin as an experienced spy who is tracking a powerful oligarch suspected of laundering money through his bank. It’s tough to parse any of that out in this trailer, but the clip does succeed in setting up an engaging and downright suspenseful tone reminiscent of Inception.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Tim Roth, Cecile de France, and Brad Lelad (Buddy Garrity!). Mobius opens in France on February 27th, but no U.S. release date has currently been set.

Some casting news to share with you today. Check the bullets:

Anthony Mackie (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is in talks to join Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake in the gambling drama, Runner Runner.
Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) will topline Diamond Dogs, an English-language thriller by director Pascal Chaumeil (Heartbreaker).
Tim Roth (The Incredible Hulk) will join Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Cecile De France (Hereafter) in the spy-thriller, Mobius.

Hit the jump for more.

First up via Deadline, Mackie may join Runner Runner, a gambling drama that recently added Oliver Cooper (Project X). The film stars Timberlake as a college student at Princeton who resorts to online gambling to dig his way out of school loan debt. Cooper plays a computer nerd who is hired along with Timberlake to work for Ivan Block (Affleck), a billionaire who runs a seedy operation out of Costa Rica. Mackie's role was not specified in the report. He recently wrapped Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad and will next move to Michael Bay's Pain and Gain. Directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) from a script by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Rounders), Runner Runner is set to start production in June.

Per Variety, Pettyfer will lead Diamond Dogs, an adaptation of the novel by Alan Watt. Pettyfer stars as a popular Nevada high school quarterback who accidentally kills someone and has his father, the sheriff, help cover it up. The search is underway for a "high-profile thesp" to play Pettyfer's father. Pettyfer can next be seen in Steven Soderbergh's ...

French actors Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Cecile de France (Hereafter) will lead Eric Rochant's romantic thriller, Mobius. According to Variety, Mobius is set in Monte Carlo and the world of high finance. Dujardin will play "an experienced spy tracking a powerful oligarch suspected of laundering money through his bank," with de France co-starring "as a bright young trader". The movie is currently in pre-production and aiming for a winter 2012 release.

Dujardin is an actor you need to keep on your radar. He's almost a lock for a Best Actor Oscar nomination for The Artist (he already won the Best Actor award at Cannes), and you should check out his spy-spoof movie OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, which is currently on Netflix Instant. The Artist opens in limited release on November 23rd. Click here to read my review and hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Here's the official synopsis for The Artist:
Hollywood 1927. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo), it seems the sky's the limit - major movie stardom awaits. THE ARTIST tells the story of their interlinked destinies.
