Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE Gets Labor Day Release

20^th Century Fox has set a September 3^rd release date for Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, Variety reports.  Machete stars the always badass Danny Trejo as a Mexican ex-Federale out to hunt down the corrupt politician who betrayed him.  Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, and Lindsay Lohan also star in the film, which was written by Rodriguez and directed by Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis.  The film was produced by Robert Rodriguez, Elizabeth Avellan, Rick Schwartz, Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic.  The Labor Day weekend release date puts Machete up against Born to Be a Star and The American, starring George Clooney.  Rodriguez’s next film after Machete is Predators, which looks just about as awesome as watching Danny Trejo kick serious ass.  Hit the jump if you never saw the Machete poster.

Cheech Marin on MACHETE

Developed out of a rather unusual circumstance, the action-thriller Machete, from directors Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, started off as a trailer in the Rodriguez/Tarantino double-feature Grindhouse and, due to demand from fans, has now become a full-length film.

About a renegade former Mexican Federale (Danny Trejo) who roams the cities, towns and streets of Texas looking for work after a shakedown from a drug lord (Steven Seagal), Machete promises a high body count with a cast that includes Robert DeNiro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Cheech Marin, as Padre Benito del Toro.

While at the press day for Cheech & Chong’s Hey Watch This, due out on DVD on April 20^th and for which we’ll have more on later, Cheech Marin talked a bit about his involvement with Machete.

Full Cast for MACHETE Announced

A few weeks ago we got some speculation on who might be in Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis’ upcoming “Machete”, based on Rodriguez’ fake trailer in “Grindhouse” and starring Danny Trejo (as all movies should).  The previous news got 2-out-of-3 right which isn’t bad.
