Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows is a series of flawed assumptions resulting from remarkable incompetence. Burton believes he’s blended a gothic style with a campy comedy, but his film is neither. The characters act at being a bunch of kooky, Addams Family-style misfits, but they’re nothing more than vague, one-dimensional sketches or, in the case of the protagonist, a confused contradiction. Seth Grahame-Smith‘s script thinks it has balanced out the story elements into a compelling narrative, but it’s a poorly plotted mess that eschews character development in favor of a softball joke or clumsy dark humor. With the exception of a great performance from Eva Green, Dark Shadows flails wildly at concocting a strange brew, and only comes up with weak tea.

I don’t know if there’s any footage left to squeeze out of The Avengers, but the Marvel Marketing Machine (which could be the villain in a presumed sequel) is still cranking out propaganda, which you can get caught up on here. We posted a new TV spot for the heroic assembly movie earlier today, but a new featurette has debuted as well. Luckily, Dark Shadows has decided to release their own featurette which focuses on the Collins’ family. The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders opens May 4th. Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfieffer, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Johnny Lee Miller and Helena Bonham Carter opens a week later on May 11th. Hit the jumps to check out the new featurettes.

With Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows opening May 11, Warner Bros. has provided us with 9 clips and 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film. The film stars Johnny Depp as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. Dark Shadows also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller.
While the reaction to the last trailer was mixed, I’m excited by everything I’ve seen and think Depp and Burton look like they had a blast bringing their passion project to life. In addition, I’ve spoken to a few people that have seen the movie and all of them have said positive things. Hit the jump to check out the footage and look for new interviews with the cast soon.

Warner Bros. has released a full gallery of high-resolution images from Tim Burton’s upcoming Dark Shadows. Johnny Depp stars as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. We’ve seen a couple of these images before, but Warner Bros. also released a number of images of Burton at work on set making artsy hand gestures.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens on May 11th.

With a cast that sports Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Helena Bonham Carter and Michelle Pfeiffer, it’s easy to lose Christopher Lee in the mix. This new Dark Shadows featurette reminds us that Lee is a consummate master of the horror genre and can boast a role that will forever be cemented in cinematic history. There’s a nice visitation of classic (ie non-Twilight) vampire movies that serve as inspiration for Depp’s version of Barnabas Collins, an imprisoned vampire who is awakened in the 1970s and must protect his dysfunctional descendants. The film, directed by Tim Burton, also stars Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. Hit the jump to check out the featurette.

It’s time for another shortlist story as apparently every actress in Hollywood is looking to star opposite Johnny Depp in the remake of The Thin Man. Chicago and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall is onboard to helm the adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel, which itself was turned into a 1934 feature film. The story centers on private detective-turned-socialite Nick Charles and his charming wife Nora as they’re drawn into investigating a murder. Depp is, obviously, set to play the dashing detective, and now Marshall is set to meet with a slew of actresses to cast the lovely Nora. Hit the jump to find out who’s up for the gig.

Warner Bros. has released nine character banners for Tim Burton‘s comedy Dark Shadows. These banners are much better than the character posters, which made the entire cast look like albinos for some reason.
Hit the jump to check out the banners. The film stars Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.

The marketing campaign for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is now in full swing with a little less than two months to go before the film’s released. While I was pleasantly surprised by the goofy first trailer, I found the random Alice Cooper cameo to be a little irksome and cheesy. That said, it’s good to see Burton doing comedy again and I’m hoping for the best from this adaptation of the cult soap series. Nine character posters have now been unveiled, giving us a colorful look at this strange, strange family. The plot involves a vampire (Johnny Depp) who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants.

A new international trailer for Tim Burton’s feature adaptation of the cult soap series Dark Shadows has gone online. The US trailer debuted last week, and I was pleasantly surprised by the clip; Dark Shadows looks like an incredibly goofy, fun time in the vein of The Addams Family and Beetlejuice. Johnny Depp stars as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. This international trailer isn’t much different from the US trailer, but it adds a bit at the end featuring Alice Cooper. The joke doesn’t really work for me, and Cooper seems like a really random addition. But, you know, ghoulishness.
Hit the jump to watch the international trailer. The film also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley. Dark Shadows opens on May 11th.

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s feature film version of the cult TV series Dark Shadows has finally arrived. After seeing a bevy of images over the past few months (including some hi-res ones today), we finally get a look at this thing in motion. The plot centers on a vampire (Johnny Depp) who awakens after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. The beginning of the trailer is played straight, and we’re lead to believe that we’re in for another nightmarish tale from Burton, but when Depp wakes up in 1972 things kick into gear. This is very much a comedy, and there are more than a few laughs on display in the trailer. Burton and Depp have a lot of fun with the 1970s setting, and Depp’s reaction to modern technology is amusing. It’s got a goofy tone in the vein of Beetlejuice or Mars Attacks!, and I’m eager to see if the whole film plays like a return to comedic form for Burton.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. [Update: We've updated the article with a high quality trailer and the film's poster.]

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is set to premiere later today, but in case that’s just too darn long of a wait, quite a few new images have popped up online to whet your appetite. They’re most likely screengrabs from the trailer, but they do give us a better sense of what we’re in for. It’s been unclear as to whether Burton’s take on the cult soap series would skew dramatic or comedic, but I’m hearing the trailer hints at a strong comedic tone. These images seem to support that assessment, as Burton’s usual flair for color and whimsy is on full display. We see Burton staple (and wife) Helena Bonham Carter sporting some goofy sunglasses, and Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins curiously studying some dinosaur toys (“What is this sorcery?!”). The plot concerns Collins’ awakening after having been buried for 200 years.
Hit the jump to check out the images, and be sure to come back later today to take a gander at the trailer. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, and Eva Green. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.
As a trailer debut for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is (hopefully) on the way soon, four new images from the film have popped up online giving us another peek into the adaptation of the 1970s soap. Johnny Depp plays a vampire who attempts to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. The supporting cast is incredibly strong, with Chloe Moretz, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley and Michelle Pfieffer all onboard in most likely creepy/off-kilter roles. We get a good look at Moretz, Green and Pfeiffer in this latest batch of images, as well as another look at Depp’s strange vampire.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. [Update: We've been asked by the studio to take the images down].

The first trailer for Frankenweenie, one of two Tim Burton films opening this year, hit earlier today and now a few character images from Burton’s take on the popular soap Dark Shadows have gone online. The film centers on a vampire named Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) who is awakened after having been buried for 200 years and must now attempt to integrate with his descendants. The premise sounds eerily fun, but I’m a little surprised that we’ve yet to see a trailer for the film given that it opens in a little over two months. The previous images we’ve seen have carried Burton’s signature touch, and these character images continue along that path. Depp is covered in makeup giving his best “Do I look weird or something?” face and looks to have disappeared into the character, while Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Helena Bonham Carter (surprise!) all look like normal people living in a slightly hyper-realistic world. I’m intrigued by the premise and cast, and I’m really hoping we see a trailer for this one soon so we have a better idea of what to expect from the full film.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.

A new image has surfaced from Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp and Eva Green. The film is based off the 1960s-70s cult TV series, and centers on vampire Barnabas Collins’ (Depp) attempt to reintegrate with his descendants after having been buried for 200 years. Green plays “Angelique Bouchard, a witch driven by her love/hate relationship with Collins.” The look she’s giving him in the image? Love/hate. Also part of the look: did you get your make-up design off a kit at Party City?
Hit the jump to check out the full image. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.

While they’ve yet to cast their male lead, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have nabbed their female lead in the 300 prequel 300: Battle of Artemisia. The film takes place around the same time period of 300, but in a different location with different characters. It centers on the titular Battle of Artemisium, with Themistocles leading and strategizing for the Greeks opposite the Persian forces led by Xerxes. Joel Edgerton was offered the lead role of Themistocles, but he subsequently passed.
Now Heat Vision reports that Eva Green (Casino Royale) is in negotiations to play Artemisia, a “ruthless, gold-covered goddess who persuades Xerxes to amass his army and helps lead them into battle.” Noam Murro (Smart People) is directing the action pic, with 300 director Zack Snyder onboard as producer. The studio hopes to get production started in the first quarter of 2012, so they better get crackin’ on that male lead. Green will next be seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.
