Comedian Rob Riggle is one of the busiest funnymen working in Hollywood these days. Currently filming 21 Jump Street in New Orleans, he’s also done a voice for the Dr. Seuss story The Lorax (due out in 2012), and he has roles in Everybody Loves Whales, based on a true story about whales trapped under the ice in the Arctic Circle, and Larry Crowne, starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. On top of that, he’s the host of the AXE Dirtcathlon, on behalf of AXE shower gel, and he will be doing a football comedy with Adam McKay sometime next year.

During an exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Rob Riggle talked about his journey from Theater and Film major to officer in the Marine Corps to popular comedian, playing the villain in 21 Jump Street and getting to improvise on set with Jonah Hill, how honored he is to be a voice in The Lorax even though his character is morally questionable, how awesome it was to work with Tom Hanks, who was both his co-star and director for Larry Crowne, and how his humor developed out of the need to diffuse situations when he was growing up. The dramatic thriller Inhale follows Santa Fe District Attorney Paul Stanton (Dermot Mulroney), who is in a desperate fight to save his young daughter. Diagnosed with a rare degenerative condition, she is on a long list to receive a double lung transplant, and her time is quickly running out. As her health worsens, Paul sets out on a quest that will send him to Mexico and force him to decide whether to expose a massive illegal harvesting operation and save the lives of hundreds of children, or save the life of his daughter.

During an interview at the film’s press day, actor Dermot Mulroney talked about taking on the subject of murder for profit, the challenge of playing a complex character and the fact that he approaches his acting career with absolutely no game plan. He also joked about shooting with animatronic whales for Everybody Loves Whales – about individuals working together in the effort to free three California gray whales who have become trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle – shared his experience directing his first feature Love, Wedding, Marriage starring Mandy Moore and Kellan Lutz, and expressed his relief that the Rockford Files reboot he was signed on for at NBC ultimately didn’t get picked up by the network. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

We have two bits of casting news to bring you this morning.  First, Kevin Kline, Diane Keaton, Richard Jenkins, and Elisabeth Moss have all joined Darling Companion.  The film was co-written, along with his wife Meg, by four time Oscar-nominee Lawrence Kasdan.  Companion is meant to be the third installment in a trilogy which includes 1983′s The Big Chill and 1991′s Grand Canyon.  From Risky Business, the film “follows a woman (Keaton) who takes in a stray dog as a companion to fill the void left by her distracted husband (Kline), only to see him lose the mutt after a wedding at their vacation home in the Rockies. A search for the animal includes several guests and a mysterious young woman.”  The report fails to disclose exactly what Jenkins and Moss’ roles may entail thus we are to assume Jenkins will be one of “several guests” with Moss perhaps filling the role of “mysterious young woman.”  Production on Companion is scheduled to begin within the next week in Utah.
