Move over, Adult Swim; there’s a new player in the pool. For more than ten years now, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block has been the place to find some of the most progressive, insane and “mature” animated programming on TV (stateside, at least). Due to its role in reviving such series as Family Guy and Futurama, FOX has paid attention to Adult Swim’s success over the years and saw that there was money to be made. Already promoting their “animation domination” with regular series Family Guy, The Simpsons and more, FOX has now developed a new unit of animation to focus on a late-night block of animated programming. Not only will this new unit focus on televised programming, they will also have counterparts running online. The shows will air on Saturdays from 11PM to 12:30 AM ET/PT and will feature four new animated series each season, starting in January 2013. The digital channel starts in 2012 and will feature 50 original creations. Hit the jump to check out the press release.

Midseason is just around the corner, and now Fox is chiming in with their premiere dates for new and returning series. First of all, let’s just get this out of the way, the reality competition giant American Idol will return for its eleventh season on Wednesday, January 18th and 8/7c and Thursday January 19th at the same time.
Now let’s get on with the real series starting with Kiefer Sutherland’s return to Fox with Touch from Heroes creator Tim Kring debuting on Wednesday, January 25th at 9/8c. That’s a prime slot right after an airing of American Idol too. However, the series run won’t actually start until Monday, March 19th at 9/8c. For more premiere dates and times for shows like Alcatraz, Breaking In, The Finder, Napoleon Dynamite and returning shows like New Girl and Glee, hit the jump.

FX’s psycho-sexual thriller, American Horror Story, from executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, revolves around the Harmons, a family of three who moved from Boston to Los Angeles as a means of reconciling personal anguish and getting a fresh start. But, they quickly discover that their new home comes with its own kind of baggage, as numerous heinous and terrifying acts have occurred there, and the property itself seems to have a strange effect on its residents.
During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Alexandra Breckenridge talked about sharing the role of the Harmon’s housekeeper with Frances Conroy (all the women see Conroy, while all the men see her morph into Breckenridge), what a treat it is for her to be working on the show when she’s such a fan of horror movies, how the maid uniform helps her with the physicality and style of the character, and being terrified to work with the iconic Jessica Lange. She also talked about her role on True Blood this past season, doing voice-over work for Family Guy, and what she loves about photography, as an artistic expression. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

For those who think that maybe the return of the once canceled animated comedy series Family Guy has run its course since being brought back from the dead, you may have one pivotal team member on your side: series creator Seth MacFarlane. In a recent cover story from THR, the man who has been dominating Fox’s Animation Domination with series like Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad, says he thinks the show may need to call it quits on TV. MacFarlane says,
“Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series. I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say we’re done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill. But still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.”
However, even if the series were to end, that wouldn’t be the end of the Griffins. Hit the jump to find out why, and for what MacFarlane had to say about the other new shows he has in the works, not to mention an idea that’s sure to be controversial amongst some very passionate sci-fi fans.

There’s nothing about the animation of Family Guy calls for the big screen. But the series does rank among the best in communal viewing experiences, so we wanted to give you a heads up on a Family Guy screening in a theater near you. Well as long as Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, or Seattle is near you. At midnight September 15, the show will celebrate its upcoming tenth season with “Something, Something, Something Anniversary” in theaters in these 10 cities. The screening will feature a sneak peek at the season premiere, “Lottery Fever” alongside fan favorite episode “Road to the Multiverse.” The event will close out with the 22-minute bonus feature “History of the World,” which recounts the creation of the earth.
Full details on the screenings are in the press release after the jump.

Just recently we got a rundown of premiere dates for The CW’s returning and new series for the 2011-2012, now Fox has unveiled their premiere dates for new and returning series starting in September. Returning series include the musical comedy Glee, the family sitcom Raising Hope, and the long-running animated hit Family Guy. In addition, you’ll find premiere dates for promising new series like Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi drama Terra Nova, Jonah Hill’s new animated comedy Allen Gregory and Zooey Deschanel’s charmingly funny New Girl. But for a full rundown of Fox’s premiere dates for these series and more (including The X Factor if that kind of show is your cup of tea) hit the jump.

A brief news update from Fox just came through the wire and should please “Animation Domination” fans everywhere. Per Deadline, the network has officially announced that they have renewed both Family Guy and The Cleveland Show for another season. Seth MacFarlane’s once canceled but miraculously saved series, Family Guy, will enter its tenth season this fall while the spin-off series The Cleveland Show is assured a fourth season through 2012-2013 (feels like it just debuted yesterday). With this news, and with American Dad getting picked up for a seventh season, it sounds like Sundays over at Fox will be chock full of great animated comedy for the foreseeable future.

Last October we found out that Seth MacFarlane’s portion of Animation Domination would have a hurricane hit all three of his series Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad. However, in the wake of a recent barrage of terrible storms and tornadoes hitting the Southeast United States and resulting in a rising death toll near 300 people, THR reports Fox has decided to pull the series of crossover episodes. It’s a smart move and certainly in good taste as people deal with this terrible tragedy. Repeats will air in place of the new episodes, and this series of crossover episodes will be held until next spring instead. Meanwhile, our thoughts go out to all those families affected by these storms.

Amazon’s Gold Box Deal of the Day is any season of Family Guy for $12.99. While Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy is definitely not for everyone, I’m a huge fan of the show and almost every episode has at least a few extremely funny parts. Like all God Box Deals, it’s only good for today. Remember, if you spend over $25 you get free shipping.

Back in 2007, self-professed Star Wars superfan Seth McFarlane and his creative team cooked up a very special episode of their animated Fox TV show Family Guy in which they retold/parodied Star Wars by using their characters in an hourlong episode called Blue Harvest. Following the smashing success of that special, the team took on The Empire Strikes Back with their homage entitled Something, Something, Something, Dark Side. Finally, out of what may have been obligation, they finished out the trilogy with It’s a Trap! (which is, of course, a parody of Return of the Jedi). While the film as a whole may feel a little tired or halfhearted, it’s definitely good for quite a few laughs. Hit the jump for my review of the Family Guy: It’s a Trap! Blu-ray review.

Seth MacFarlane has expressed his frustration of using up Blue Harvest as the title for the first Family Guy parody of Star Wars, but using one of the more infamous lines of dialogue which has since turned into an internet meme isn’t a bad back-up. Enter the trailer for It’s a Trap, the final installment in Family Guy’s parodies of the Star Wars Trilogy which takes aim at Return of the Jedi. While jokes are certainly abound in these meticulously crafted episodes that both mock and pay tribute to the Holy Trilogy, you won’t find many of them in this trailer. But that’s because this final trailer follows in the footsteps of the previous trailers in that it’s actually a near shot-for-shot remake of the original theatrical trailer for Return of the Jedi. Check out the full trailer after the jump.
[Update: We saw that there's another trailer out on Youtube, now included after the jump.]

Seth MacFarlane has crossed over certain characters from all three of his series, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad, into one another for quick laughs. But next year, one single storyline will unify all the series for one night during May sweeps. TV Guide reports a hurricane will hit all three of the families’ homes in each of their respective series and they each deal with it in their own special way. Hit the jump for details on the episodes to air next year.

The third and final chapter in the immensely popular Family Guy: Star Wars parodies will hit DVD and Blu-ray on December 21st. Fox Home Video made the announcement on Monday after FG creator Seth McFarlane screened the first ten minutes of the Episode VI spoof – It’s A Trap! – at Comic-Con over the weekend. The Griffins will return (along with The Jedi, one assumes) to conclude their Star Wars-skewering in the wake of 2009’s Something, Something Dark Side. Although McFarlane has stated that the “spectacular and offensively uproarious” uncensored DVD will be the final chapter in his Star Wars series, one can only hope that he might reconsider taking on episodes 1-3. Oh, hell. I guess they’re hilarious enough just as they are. Check out the full press release after the jump.

Fox has announced their fall premiere dates, kicking things off on September 11th with an astounding 800th episode of Cops. All of the new series (Lone Star, Raising Hope, Running Wilde) and most of the new seasons (House, Glee, Hell’s Kitchen, Bones, Fringe, Human Target, The Good Guys, The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy) will premiere the following week, September 20-26.
With September 26th allotted to a one-hour season premiere of Family Guy, the season premiere (and 100th episode) of American Dad will be held for October 3rd, while the third season of Lie to Me will drop on November 10th. Hit the jump for the full schedule.
