Fox has released the first trailer for The Three Stooges, directed by the Farrelly Brothers. Will Sasso, Sean Hayes, and Chris Diamantopoulos star as Curly, Moe, and Larry in the new feature, divided into three segments. It looks awful, but in a fascinating way. This has been a passion project for the Farrellys and the final result makes me wonder: could The Three Stooges ever work in the present day? Doesn’t their slapstick seem quaint while their antics come off as obnoxious? And yet there’s also something mean-spirited mixed in. I’m sure the Farrellys thought, “Hey! Let’s poke Snooki in the eyes! That will put the audience on our side!” I almost feel sorry for Snooki. Almost.
The film also stars Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, and Larry David. The Three Stooges opens on April 4, 2012. Watch the trailer after the jump.

It was obvious that Warner Bros. was hoping for Hall Pass to be the Farrelly Brothers’ long-awaited comeback. Starring Owen Wilson, up-and-comer Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, and The Office‘s Jenna Fischer, Hall Pass failed to become the box-office juggernaut that some of the siblings’ other films became (see also: the massive $176m domestic gross for There’s Something About Mary), but was their latest unfairly ignored upon release? Now that Hall Pass is available on Blu-ray and DVD, everyone who passed on the film earlier this year can find out if the Farrelly Brothers’ latest is more Dumb and Dumber…or more Stuck on You. Find out what we thought after the jump, folks…

With filming underway in Atlanta on the Farrelly Brothers Three Stooges movie, the other day we posted our first look at Larry (Sean Hayes) and Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) on set. However, we now have a much better look at Hayes as Larry. If there was anyone who doubted that Hayes looked like Larry, this picture will silence the naysayers. However, we still don’t know how he’ll play the character, but I’ve always thought Hayes was an underrated actor, and I think he’s going to nail it.
The Three Stooges will be comprised of three 27-minute segments (just like the originals), the first of which see them as children raising all kinds of hell in an orphanage. Hit the jump for a better picture.

Throughout their career as filmmakers, Bobby and Peter Farrelly have become known for their comedic sensibility, garnering huge commercial success with their raunchy yet heartfelt films. Their latest film (opening on February 25th) is Hall Pass, which follows best buddies Rick and Fred (Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis), as they look to revitalize their marriages by taking advantage of a hall pass given to them by their wives (Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate). With one week of freedom to do whatever they want with no questions asked, the two men quickly realize that the single life is not everything they remembered it was.
While Collider spoke to Bobby and Peter Farrelly about Hall Pass during an exclusive interview at the film’s press day, we’ll run that portion closer to the film’s release date. This portion of the interview includes what they had to say about their long-awaited feature film version of The Three Stooges, how they’re coming with the casting, their plans to shoot it later this Spring, and why they think it’s been such a long process to bring it to the big screen. Peter also talked about his two shorts in Movie 43, and how that project came about. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Way back in 2008, MGM set a release date of November 20, 2009 for the Farrelly brothers’ contemporary take on The Three Stooges. The movie, reportedly in the works for thirteen years, was set to star Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey as Moe, Larry, and Curly, respectively
Now, nearly a year after the would-be release date has passed and pre-production on the movie has yet to begin, Jim Carrey has announced that he feels physically unable to gain the weight needed for him to play Curly, saying “I think it’s dead. It’s dead at least with me.” Hit the jump for Carrey’s words and why he feels “It’ll be awful.”

Richard Jenkins is one of those actors that’s always working. While never top billing, he can always be counted on to deliver exceptional work no matter what part he plays. However, over the past few years, it seems like more people are recognizing his talent, as directors such as the Coen Brothers, Adam McKay, the Farrelly Brothers, and now Matt Reeves have cast Jenkins in important parts in their movies. As a big fan of his work, it’s great to see. At any rate, I was able to speak with Jenkins about Let Me In and you can read what he had to say after the jump. We also talked about his other projects.
Finally, by now you’ve probably heard the great buzz on Let Me In, but if you haven’t…Let Me In is one of the best films of the year and absolutely worth your hard earned money. Absolutely recommended.

As reported by THR, Owen Wilson has signed on for the lead role in the Farrelly Brothers’ upcoming comedy Hall Pass. The film focuses on a couple who have reached a stagnant point in their marriage. In order to spice things up a bit, the wife gives her husband a “hall pass,” which allows him to engage in extramarital encounters for a whole week.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly rewrote the spec script by Pete Jones and will be directing and producing the film. Jason Sudeikis of SNL fame-one-half of the “Two A-Holes”-is in negotiations to co-star alongside Wilson. The movie begins production February 23.
As with any comedy, the cast makes the film and both Wilson and Sudeikis-if he ends up committing-have proven their comedic chops. Also, even though the Farrellys hit a bit of a hiccup in their last theatrical outing with 2007′s Heartbreak Kid, their record still holds strong with films like, There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, and the often under-appreciated Stuck on You.

The Boston Herald is reporting that Sean Penn has signed back on to play Larry in the Farrelly Brothers’ (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber) Three Stooges film. If you guys remember, back in June we reported on how Penn had suddenly dropped out of the film due to some family problems. A couple of weeks later we then reported on how Paul Giamatti had replaced Penn to play Larry, while Jim Carrey was now no longer attached to play Curly in the film. However, Penn is definitely now back and as Bobby Farrelly says “We got him back. He always said he wanted to do it after, you know, taking care of his family”
To read my thoughts on a Three Stooges film and what The Farrelly Brothers have coming up next, hit the jump.
When we say a movie is influential, it’s normally meant as a compliment; fans point back to films like Alien, Die Hard, or The Manchurian Candidate to give them credit for inspiring entire genres, and sometimes even schools of thought for subsequent filmmakers. In the case of 1998′s There’s Something About Mary, however, “influential” has a decidedly negative connotation – which is understandable, given the sea of shitty gross-out comedies that Mary spawned, but still unfortunate, because as much as excessive repetition may have numbed us to its original impact, it was one of the funniest comedies of the ’90s – and it remains the best thing the Farrelly brothers have ever done.
