Over at ABC headquarters today, the network renewed V for a second season and cancelled freshman shows FlashForward and Romantically Challenged alongside veteran comedies Scrubs and Better Off Ted. ABC has plenty of material to fill those slots, though, as the network officially picked up comedies Mr. Sunshine, Better Together, Happy Endings and dramas The Whole Truth, Detroit 187 and My Generation for their fall schedule. More on each item after the jump.

Last week, I put together a look at the various pilots that are fighting for a spot on the network schedules in the fall. Of course, the networks cannot achieve their “in with the new” objective without first taking care of the first half of that saying: “Out with the old . . .” A number of shows currently on the air–even series that are near and dear to your heart–must die a horrible and bloody death to make room for such potential hits as the J.J. Abrams spy drama Undercovers.
After the jump, we’ll distinguish between survivor and sacrificial lamb for such network series as Chuck, Heroes, FlashForward, V, Human Target, Numb3rs, and One Tree Hill.

The other week I was on the set of ABC’s FlashForward and was able to speak with executive producer/show runner Jessika Borsiczky. While I already posted my interviews with the stars of the show and they came out great (Dominic Monaghan, Joseph Fiennes and Sonya Walger), if you want to find out what’s really going to happen on FlashForward, you’ve got to go to the producer/show runner. Thankfully, she was more than happy to talk about what’s coming up this season and after the jump you can watch what she had to say. As always, I’ve listed all the questions and some of the answers before the interview.

If you’re a fan of ABC’s FlashForward, you’re about to be very happy. That’s because the show is finally coming back with a two hour episode tomorrow night and I’ve got a few on set interviews with the cast to post to help promote the show. The other day I posted my interview with Dominic Monaghan, and now I’ve got Joseph Fiennes and Sonya Walger.
On FlashForward, Joseph Fiennes and Sonya Walger play a married couple going through some problems as a result of what each of them saw in their flashforward. During the interviews, they each talked about what is coming up for their characters and what making the show is really like. Hit the jump to see what they had to say:

If you’re a fan of ABC’s FlashForward, you’re about to be very happy. That’s because the show is finally coming back with new episodes this week and I’ve got a few on set interviews with the cast to help promote the show. Up first… Dominic Monaghan.
On FlashForward, Monaghan plays Dr. Simon Campos. He’s the partner of Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport) and he may have been responsible for the worldwide blackout. Of course with a show like FlashForward - where nothing is as it seems – it’s hard to tell if Monaghan really is responsible, or if he’s just a pawn in someone else’s game.
Anyway, last week I was on the set of the show as ABC invited a number of online journalists to talk to the cast. While Monaghan was tight lipped about what might happen (he’s been trained well thanks to Lost), I still got some good stuff out of him. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.
While on the set of ABC’s hit show FlashForward today, I was able to speak with John Cho about the status of A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, and what’s up with the Star Trek sequel. The good news for fans of the Harold and Kumar series is the sequel is still moving forward and Cho said the plan is to film this June! He said they’re currently figuring out who will direct the third installment and Neil Patrick Harris is supposed to be in it. He said the film picks up a few years after the second film and it’s a legitimate holiday movie. He also said the plan is to still release the film this holiday season in theaters. Of course with Kal Penn working in Washington, it’s still not 100% the film will happen. But he seemed very optimistic.
And regarding the Star Trek sequel, he said they’re still working on the script. We also talked about lens flares and a lot more. Hit the jump to watch the interview or read a bullet point recap of what he told me:
David S. Goyer made waves last week when he left the television series he was showrunning, FlashForward, to begin collaborating with Jonah Nolan on the next installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. His next project? A three-book science fiction book series to be published by Ace Books, an imprint of Penguin Publishing. Already hailed for his work on The Dark Knight and pilloried for his efforts on The Unborn, Goyer decided to join up with fellow novelist and screenwriter Michael Cassutt (The New Twilight Zone) and make his long-gestating dream a reality.
The first book in the trilogy, Heaven’s Shadow, is set to debut in July 2011 and will be followed by Heaven’s War and Heaven’s Fall. According to Variety, the plot is your basic giant-object-hurtling-towards-earth disaster. This time the conceit is that when rival teams of astronauts head into space to prevent the impending cataclysm they discover alien forces on the satellite. It should be noted that if the books sell well, they could be coming to a screen near you. Literary agency, Writers House, which reps both Goyer and Cassutt will own the film rights. Writers House has been on a hot streak recently, securing film deals for Twilight, The Blind Side and Coraline. Should a film version be made, I fully expect both Morgan Freeman and Aerosmith to play a crucial role in the marketing of it. (via Variety)

Yesterday, we reported on David Goyer leaving his showrunning duties for ABC’s FlashForward focus on his film career, which included a mention of the inevitable Batman 3. At the time, it seemed like a continuation of the logical but as-of-yet unconfirmed rumor that director Christopher Nolan and screenwriter Goyer would return to Gotham. A new report Deadline, advances said heresay and ups the ante by about a million chips. Not only has Nolan cracked the story of the sequel to The Dark Knight and committed to participate, but Warner Bros. has recruited the modern auteur to “godfather” the newest film in the Superman franchise. It’s unlikely that Nolan will direct the Superman sequel, but any portion of the reins handed to the man indicates a serious effort on the studio’s part to make the best Superman while they still have the time.
For speculation on the future of two of the biggest superhero franchises on the planet, hit the break.

ABC has announced a full season pick-up for David Goyer and Brannon Braga’s “FlashForward”. With the huge ratings for the premiere and only a mild drop-off for the subsequent episodes, this was almost a sure thing. Also, the show recently sold to more than 100 territories worldwide. Once that announcement was made, ABC’s decision was a no brainer.
What most people don’t realize is how much the entertainment industry relies on the rest of the world for revenue. Even if a show is struggling in America (“Heroes” anyone), if the network and production company are making tons of money licensing the show to other countries, it’s not going off the air anytime soon. So if you’re ever nervous about your favorite show, see if it airs in other countries and how much they pay to air it. ABC also picked up “Cougar Town”, “The Middle” and “Modern Family.” If you missed my exclusive interview with David Goyer and Brannon Braga, click here.

If you’ve been watching the great ABC show “FlashForward” on Thursday nights, you’re going to love the interview I did with David Goyer (“Blade”, “The Dark Knight”), and Brannon Braga (“Star Trek: Voyager”, “Star Trek: Enterprise”, “24″) a few days ago. That’s because these two great writers are responsible for getting the show on the air, have mapped out where the show is headed, and what mysteries are going to be revealed along the way. And if the ratings are any indication, the show is going to be around for awhile.
Now for the best part: While some interviews are brief, my conversation with Goyer and Braga went for about 30 minutes. What that means is we talked about everything – from how “FlashForward” got off the ground to how the show gets made each week. Of course, we also talked about what was up with the Oceanic Airlines billboard in the pilot and how do they deal with the comparisons to “Lost”. And for fans of “24″, Braga talks about what’s coming up in the new season and Goyer talks about “Ghost Rider 2″ and “Magneto”. I’ve done A LOT of interviews for Collider and I think this is one of the best so I really recommend checking it out. And to make it easy, I’ve listed what we talked about above each part. Hit the jump to see and make sure to tune into “FlashForward” on Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.

It looks like “V” is quickly becoming the Jan Brady of ABC’s trio of complex, shows. Going into it’s final season, the elder “Lost” is sure to be receive plenty of attention and, after its blockbuster premiere, “FlashForward” seems assured the same treatment. “V,” however, will have its freshman season interrupted by a three month hiatus. Hit the jump to find out why the resistance will be televised…eventually.

Last night, a kind of amazing thing happened. For the first time in five years, reality TV sensation “Survivor” was not the highest rated show among 18- to 49-year-olds at 8pm. That honor went to the series premiere of David Goyer’s new sci-fi/drama, “FlashForward.” The show rocked the hour with 12.4 million viewers overall, and specifically high ratings in key target demographics. A brief review of the episode and why it’s earned its spot after the jump.

Whenever normal people hear the phrase “science fiction,” they run for the hills and never look back. I am not one of those people, so it was with great pleasure that I accepted an invitation to see an advanced screening of the pilot for ABC’s new series FlashForward at the Arclight in Hollywood, followed by a Q & A with the producers and much of the cast.
Like the brilliant Lost and Battlestar Galactica before it, FlashForward is not your typical sci-fi and it should appeal to geeks and normal’s alike. The makers of this show understand that it’s human drama and not cool visuals that make for compelling science fiction. Set your phasers on fun and read more after the jump!
