Prizes Arrive for TRON: LEGACY “Arcade Aid” Viral Campaign

Prizes have begun arriving for those who completed the TRON: Legacy “Flynn Lives” Arcade Aid game.  As we reported in mid-October, the “Arcade Aid” website (caution: it’s loud) had been updated again and players were challenged to name the 167 games hinted at in the puzzle.  I was able to do so and now the prizes have arrived in the mail: two “Arcade Aid” pins (one featuring the TRON light cycle and another featuring the clue for Face Off) as well as a limited edition poster featuring the entire Arcade Aid puzzle.  I received a note with the poster (which measures 36″x19.5″) saying that it only went to the first 999 people to solve the puzzle.  The note also hints that the viral campaign ain’t over yet.

Hit the jump to check out images of these cool prizes.  TRON: Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges.  It opens in 3D on December 17th.

TRON LEGACY Viral Campaign Wants You to Prove Your Video Game Knowledge in Exchange for an ENCOM Badge

The Tron Legacy viral campaign continues as a new and highly addicting challenge has gone online.  Alex at FirstShowing reports that on the Flynn Lives message boards was a post that linked to a challenge at “Arcade Aid.”  The challenge is a giant map with clues to 56 video game titles.  Figure out all 56 and you’ll be taken to a page where you can request an ENCOM badge that will be sent to your home address.

For those wondering how the game works, look at the image above.  See the clock with the burger on it?  You’d click on it, be prompted for a title, and then you’d enter “Burger Time” which was a 1982 arcade game (that one’s a freebie).  Thanks to the brilliant minds at Unfiction for helping to untangle this latest challenge.  They also put together a hi-res GIF of the entire map and I’ve included it for you after the jump, because it looks damn cool.

Click here to start the challenge (make sure you’ve signed up at FlynnLives.com first, although it’s not required to play) and feel free to help each other out in our comments section.

Trailer for TRON LEGACY

The first trailer for Tron Legacy has gone online via the lovely FlynnLives viral campaign. This is the trailer that Steve saw two weeks ago and if you saw Alice in Wonderland this past weekend (and a lot of you did), you probably saw it too.  It’s a great trailer so if you haven’t seen it yet or want to see it again, you’re going to want to hit the jump.

As you’ll see time and time again with this movie, it pays to follow the viral campaign because it unveiled the site where you can see the new trailer.  Of course, trailers and so forth become available to everyone not long after they’re unveiled in the viral campaign, but it’s still rewarding for the truly devoted to get the shot at a first look.

Hit the jump for the official synopsis and we’ll have an embed of the trailer for you soon.  The film stars Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, and Academy-Award Winner Jeff Bridges (and yes, it is cool to write that).  Tron Legacy hits theaters on December 17th.

[Update: We've now embedded the trailer after the jump]

TRON LEGACY Viral Campaign and IMAX Locations Collide in the Pit Cell at Zero Hour

Disney is bombarding the online community with a viral campaign of enormous proportions in anticipation of the upcoming Tron Legacy. Without recapping everything that happened, let me say that the viral site FlynnLives led to another website called Pit Cell, where there is an “exclusive limited event” being advertised in five cities, including New York, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, and Sydney this weekend.

What the hell is the thing for? Who knows? Some have speculated that it might be a screening of the film’s intro a la The Dark Knight viral campaign (perhaps, but doubtful) or the hotly-anticipated trailer (far more likely). Others say that it might even be a trailer of the sequel attached to a special screening of Alice in Wonderland, another Disney film. However, that seems to be debunked since a few of the locations have Avatar (will its influence never end?) screenings scheduled soon after the slated events for Tron Legacy.

For more on the various details of the viral campaign, including why all 25 cities are IMAX capable, some interesting things about the various items that were handed out today, and why there seems to be a binary code running, hit the jump.  Oh, and you can also see the sweet new image in hi-res.

TRON LEGACY Viral Campaign Begins; Matt Races to the First Location but Is Too Late! – UPDATED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 24th, 2010 at 10:21 am

Let the Tron Legacy viral game begin.  After creating a countdown clock about a week ago, we’ve now reached “Zero Hour” and the website has gone from binary weirdness to a clear mission.  A list of cities has gone online with each location becoming “active” by providing a link to a PDF file that lists a location, a description of a contact, and a password you’ll need to provide to the contact.

I discovered that Atlanta had gone online so I raced over to the location, the Midtown Bowl.  The location was only a few minutes from where I live, but alas, I was too late!  I was “Drop 8″ and two girls that arrived just after me were 9 and 10.  Sadly, our contact, “John,” had nothing for us.  He informed us that he only had something for the first person.  He would not reveal what it was, but I believe it was a code to bring back to the Zero Hour website.  Once entered, a new piece of a 6×10 grid is revealed with an image from the 1982 film, but once clicked it flips to part of a larger image.  Finally, at the bottom of the screen there is a list of “Field Operatives,” with names like “Avatrix” and “Blackmot…” but I don’t know what these mean.

Hit the jump to see a photo of the Midtown Bowl and our contact.  Hopefully this viral campaign will be as fun and as intricate as the best one for a movie thus far: The Dark Knight.  We have about ten months ahead of us as Tron Legacy hits theaters on December 17th.

UPDATE: MovieViral.com has discovered what the “operative” received if they were the first person to meet the contact.  It was a package that included a cell phone.  When called, the operative received further instructions to find another package.  Inside the second package was a Tron wallet with two coins and a code to be entered at FlynnLives.com/ZeroHour]
