Last night, Gallery 1988 opened a cool new art show that focused on the many Judd Apatow movies and TV shows.   If you’re in the L.A. area and want to see artwork inspired by Freaks and Geeks, Anchorman, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Walk Hard, Funny People, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and more from his great resume, I suggest heading over to the Melrose Gallery before December 30 (it’s open Wednesday – Sunday, 11-6 PM).  However, for those that won’t be able to make the show, I took over 80 pictures and shot almost everything on display.  Hit the jump for more.

Thought last weekend, when the comedy Think Like A Man took first place from the heavily-favored The Lucky One, was a surprise? Then check out this weekend’s estimates. Not only has Think Like A Man defied all expectations by holding the top spot for a second week; it did so by beating the heavily-favored rom-com The Five-Year Engagement from super-producer Judd Apatow. Could it be that post-racial America has finally arrived? Or is everyone just saving their money to see The Avengers? You be the judge.

1 Think Like A Man $18,400,000 $60.8
2 Pirates! Band of Misfits $11,400,000 $11.4

slice Jason Segel Video Interview DESPICABLE ME

I’ve been a fan of Jason Segel’s work for a long time.  While some of you still haven’t seen Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, if you haven’t, you’re missing out on great television and some fantastic work by Segel.  But even though both of those shows died well before their time, Segel’s landed on his feet, as he’s one of the stars of the very popular CBS show How I Met Your Mother, and he’s even been the leading man in a big Hollywood movie – Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Anyway, with the 3D CGI movie Despicable Me opening tomorrow, I was able to talk with Segel as a reporter for our partners at Omelete.  During the almost 6 minute interview, we talked about Brazil, the World Cup, what got him involved in Despicable Me, his next film Jeff Who Lives at Home (directed by The Duplass Brothers), and he gave me updates on The Muppet Movie and Nicholas Stoller’s Five-Year Engagement - which he said is about the fluidity of relationships in your 20′s.  He also said he hopes to shoot this next spring as his hiatus movie.  It’s a great interview, so hit the jump to check it out:

Known for writing, producing or starring in such memorable recent comedies as Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up, along with his successful television series How I Met Your Mother, Jason Segel is on a roll in Hollywood. Making his animated debut in Despicable Me, the actor voices the villainous Vector, super arch-nemesis to Gru (voiced by Steve Carell).

During a press conference to promote the film, Jason Segel talked about finding the right voice for Vector, his tips for being funny and how he’s more proud of this film than anything he’s ever done. He also gave an update on how his Muppets movie is coming along, and hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming season of How I Met Your Mother. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Audiences gave another, giant “meh” to Hollywood’s crop of new releases this weekend; making this the second week in a row to see box office grosses fall significantly over the same period last year. That means that, almost by default, Shrek Forever After takes top honors with another decent hold of approximately 59% over last weekend.

2 Get Him to the Greek $17,400,000 $17.4

Writer/Director Nicholas Stoller On Set Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK – Read or Listen Here

Writer Director Nicholas Stoller On Set Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK.jpg

Last June I got to visit the set of writer/director Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek when it was filming at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.  Last night I posted my set report, new images, and a huge on set interview with Jonah Hill.  For tonight…it’s an on set interview with Nicholas Stoller.

As a big fan of his first film (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), I was curious how he’d be on the set of his second big studio film.  Would success have gone to his head?  Would we find a bowl of just green M&M’S by his side?  Would we watch as he spent all night trying to find the exact angle to shoot Russell Brand?

Thankfully, Stoller could not have been nicer and more normal and even though he was insanely busy trying to film a fake concert with 1,300 extras, he still managed to give us twenty minutes and he described what he learned on Sarah Marshall that he was able to bring to Get Him to the Greek.  Of course, we also talked about filming at the Greek, why this movie as a follow up, and so much more.  Hit the jump to read or listen to this great interview:

Collider Goes to the Set of GET HIM TO THE GREEK and Watches Infant Sorrow Perform

The crowd is screaming.  On stage the lights and smoke make it seem like the band is about to come out.  We see the illuminated sign for Infant Sorrow. After a few moments, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) comes out wearing a coat with no shirt.  He starts to sing and the crowd goes crazy.  If I didn’t see all the cameras and the hundreds of grips and production people, I would have thought it was a real concert.  I’m very impressed.

But let me back up a second.

It’s June 16, 2009 and I’m hanging out at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.  It’s a cool summer night and I’ve been invited – along with a few other online reporters – to the set of writer/director Nicholas Stoller’s (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) Get Him to the Greek.   While set visits are usually very private and intimate, Universal invited us on a night they were filming with 1,300 extras.  Let’s just say it was an awesome night to visit the set.  Hit the jump for more:

Jonah Hill On Set Interview GET HIM TO THE GREEK – Also Talks THE ADVENTURER’S HANDBOOK, His Career, Sequels, and SO Much More

Last June I got to visit the set of writer/director Nick Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek while the production was filming at the famous Greek Theater in Los Angeles.  While I sometimes travel across the country to watch a movie getting made, for this set visit, I needed to drive about 15 minutes from my apartment.

Anyway, when you do a set visit, you usually get to interview the cast.  That’s normal.  What isn’t normal is getting an hour with one of the leads!  But that’s what happened backstage at the Greek Theater as Jonah Hill gave the group of online reporters on the visit an awesome extended interview that covered absolutely everything.  From how Get Him to the Greek came together, to his love for Back to the Future 2, we practically covered all of his projects on IMDb – including The Adventurer’s Handbook.

If you’re a fan of Jonah Hill, I promise you will love this interview.  Hit the jump to read the transcript or listen to the audio.

Fantastic Red Band Trailer for GET HIM TO THE GREEK Starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand

Get Him to the Greek movie image Jonah Hill, Russell Brand slice (1).jpg

The red band trailer for Get Him to the Greek starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand has just come online and it is fucking hilarious.  Jonah Hill’s been good in movies ever since his breakthrough performance in Superbad, but judging from this trailer, it looks like he’s taken it to a whole new level with this movie.  It’s a little surprising that Brand doesn’t get many jokes here even though his character from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Aldous Snow, was spun-off to make this movie.  Maybe my sense of humor skews towards Hill complaining about fucking on a toilet seat, but this new trailer has just shot Get Him to the Greek to the top of my must-see movies of the summer.

Hit the jump to check it out along with the official synopsis.  Get Him to the Greek hits theaters on June 4th.

Jason Segel to Star in THE GREATEST MUPPET MOVIE EVER MADE

by     Posted: March 15th, 2010 at 10:18 pm

slice_jason_segel_muppets_01.jpg

It seems only fitting that Jason Segel has finally signed on to star in the upcoming Muppets movie. Segel has had an extensive role in the development of the upcoming film, entitled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, which he penned with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller. THR is now reporting that Segel will be starring in and producing the film as well.

Segel will join David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV in producing the film, with James Bobin (writer, director and producer of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords) set to direct. The plot remains under wraps although the film’s story could have something to do with the classic Muppets coming out of retirement after a villain looks to destroy the TV studio on which The Muppet Show was once filmed. Though that news hasn’t been confirmed yet, the story is certainly intriguing enough to create a more than halfway decent Muppet film.

Warner Bros. Bets Big on Russell Brand for Yet another Super-Star Playboy Movie

by     Posted: February 11th, 2010 at 11:41 am

slice_russell_brand_01.jpg

For a guy who hasn’t opened a movie in America and has almost no name-recognition among audiences stateside, Warner Bros. has a lot of confidence in British comedian Russell Brand.  He’s best known to U.S. audiences for his role as rock star Aldous Snow in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and when U.S. audiences see him again, he’ll be playing that exact same role for the spin-off Get Him to the Greek, which hits theaters on June 4th.  Brand is also attached to star in a remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore film Arthur.

Now Deadline is reporting that WB is paying “mid-6 against high-6 figures” for a pitch by William and Scott Bindley where Brand would star as, “David Beckham-like millionaire soccer star/playboy who gets arrested in a West Texas and sentenced to community service. His task: coach the hapless local high school soccer team in a Friday Night Lights town.”  So he’s already being typecast and has yet to headline a single film.  But he did get to host the Video Music Awards a couple years back and we all don’t remember that.  Maybe he’ll turn folks around with Greek but for the moment it looks like Warner Bros. is packaging a product that has almost no demand.

Mila Kunis Interview EXTRACT

by     Posted: September 2nd, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Mila Kunis image (3).jpg

When Mila Kunis was on “That 70′s Show”, I never thought she’d make the transition to movie star. But over the past few years, that’s exactly what she’s done with starring roles in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”, “Max Payne”, “The Book of Eli”, and writer-director Mike Judge’s new film “Extract”. In “Extract”, Mila plays the femme fatale role, and she’s great.

Anyway, I recently participated in a roundtable interview with Mila and she talked about her career, making “Extract”, “Family Guy”, “Black Swan”, Comic-Con, “Date Night”, college, and a lot more. It’s a great interview so take a look. And remember, “Extract” opens this weekend and you all need to go see it!
