Frankly, not one episode of The Simpsons, other than my annual viewing of The Treehouse of Terror has gotten my attention. Until now. TV Line has word that Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the dynamic duo who brings the funny on IFC’s sketch comedy series Portlandia will provide their voices to an episode of The Simpsons. Normally guest stars like that wouldn’t get me all that excited, but their involvement is essentially a cross over of their live-action characters from Portlandia into the animated world of Springfield. The episode entitled The Day the Girls Stayed Cool will see Armisen and Brownstein playing part of a “cool” family that moves from Portland to Springfield and becomes the Simpsons’ new neighbors. Homer desperately tries to befriend them, but Marge is skeptical that being cool isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. We probably have series creator Matt Groening, a Portland native, to thank for this bit of genius. The episode will air sometime in the show’s 24th season later this fall.

How soon can we get Fred Armisen and Emma Stone in a movie together? That’s my immediate thought after watching this small batch of short promos from NBC letting everyone know that the Easy A and The Help star is hosting Saturday Night Live for her second time this weekend with musical guest Coldplay. Their chemistry is flawless, and while these kinds of promos aren’t usually anything to write home about, they’re quirky and almost feel like they could easily be a part of Armisen’s sketch series Portlandia on IFC. Check out the SNL promos and my personal favorite sketch from Portlandia after the jump!

While I was watching the Red Riding Trilogy last week, I was reminded of a famous quote by George Bernard Shaw: “England and America are two countries separated by a common language.” When it comes to gritty British dramas, the accent is sometimes so thick that despite technically speaking English, the words of British actors are…unclear. On this past weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and host Russell Brand had some fun at the expense of British accents and created the fake trailer for Don’ You Go Rounin’ Roun to Re Ro. It’s spot-on, or as they say in the UK, “[incomprehensible]“.

Sony has sent over a new high resolution image from The Smurfs movie and you can get a close up look at Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Smurfette, and a few others. The Smurfs is, of course, the feature film based upon the pint-sized blue creatures from the comic and television series of the same name. Directed by Raja Gosnell (Scooby-Doo), the film stars Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays (Glee), and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), and includes the voice talent of Katy Perry, Fred Armisen, Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman), BJ Novak (The Office), and Alan Cumming (X2). Hit the jump to get a look at the new image in high resolution. The Smurfs invades your local cinema in 3D on August 3rd, 2011.

The first images of Hank Azaria as Gargamel in Sony Pictures The Smurfs have hit the net. The reason we’re getting our first look at Gargamel is the production was shooting on the streets of New York City and the paparazzi got him. As you can tell in the above image, the production seems to be sticking close to the cartoon. For more pictures and the synopsis, hit the jump.
The Smurfs get smurfed on August 3, 2011. The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Johan), Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara (Odile-Johan’s wife), Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), and Paul Reubens (Jokey Smurf).

THE SMURFS Begins Production in New York
To be clear: I do not care about The Smurfs live-action/CGI movie at all. However, Collider is a news site and we don’t just report on the projects we are personally excited for. So for our three readers who are excited for The Smurfs, Sony Pictures Animation sent out a press release announcing that film had begun production. They also revealed that Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) would be among the voice cast.
Hit the jump for the full press release. The Smurfs is slated to hit theaters on August 3, 2011.

Over the last week or so, I’ve posted tons of red carpet interviews with the stars of the brilliant AMC show “Mad Men”. Since season three premieres tonight, it’s time to post the last two and the first one is with real life couple Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen.
On “Mad Men”, Elisabeth plays Peggy Olson. And most will know Fred Armisen from his very funny work on “Saturday Night Live”. During the interview, they joked about being a “power couple”, does “Mad Men” season three go to 11, and we talk about Elisabeth’s Emmy nomination. Take a look after the jump and remember to watch “Mad Men” tonight!
