Movie Villain Icons: The Twilight Years

There’s no debate that the following movie villains are some of the most iconic characters in cinema history, but what have they been up to since their days of inspiring fear and terror on-screen have long since passed? Does Star Wars’ Darth Vader spend his lonely nights lamenting his poor life decisions? Will A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger ever hold a heartfelt conversation with someone who is actually conscious (and did he ever have to move off Elm St)? And whatever happened to The Shining’s Grady twins? Photographer Federico Chiesa and effects artist Carolina Trotta decided to explore the answers to these questions in a series of photos depicting our favorite villains in their twilight years. I’ve got to say, Friday the 13th’s Jason Vorhees is one of my all-time favorites and apparently he has really fallen on hard times. Director Samuel Bayer Interview A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

Samuel Bayer has a long history directing music videos and commercials.  While his resume is way too long to list in this intro, some of his famous videos are Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, Blind Melon’s No Rain, almost all of Green Day’s American Idiot videos, and tons of others since 1991.  It’s really an impressive list.

Anyway, he finally made his first feature and it’s New Line’s/Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The movie stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz.

To help promote the film, I sat down with Bayer earlier today to talk about his experiences directing the movie, what will be on the Blu-ray/DVD, how does he feel about directors cuts, what will he do next, and a lot more.  As always, I’ve time indexed the interview so you can watch the parts you want.  Hit the jump to check it out:

Rooney Mara and Kyle Gallner WonderCon Video Interview A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.jpg

A few days ago I was in San Francisco attending WonderCon (it’s like Comic-Con with less people) and got to interview Rooney Mara and Kyle Gallner for A Nightmare on Elm Street.  In the film, Rooney Mara plays Nancy Thompson and Kyle Gallner plays Quentin.  As you might imagine, both are trying to stay alive when Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) comes after them.

During the interview they talked about being at WonderCon, what do they geek out over, filming in Chicago, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch the interview and look for a lot more on A Nightmare on Elm Street soon:

Hoping to revitalize yet another horror icon, Platinum Dunes’ looks like they’re on the right track for the resurrection of Freddy Krueger and the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.  Our partners at Omelete have a landed three new images and the synopsis from the upcoming film and they make sure you know that Freddy has a claw-glove and it’s fucking terrifying.  Imagine how bad the sound would be if he scrapped those down a chalkboard.  Your eardrums wouldn’t survive.

Hit the jump to check out the new images.  Hopefully we’ll be seeing a new trailer and/or new poster for the movie soon.  A Nightmare on Elm Street hits theaters on April 30, 2010.

The first image of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger in the remake/reboot of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” has been released (via MySpace). While I’m sure many of you want to see a clear image of Freddy, I think this is the perfect way to tease everyone. After all, Freddy comes to you in dreams, so what better way to start than by letting you imagine what the rest of his face looks like. After the jump is the full image.

Also, I just posted my preview piece about going to the set of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, so click here to check it out.
