Move over, Adult Swim; there’s a new player in the pool. For more than ten years now, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block has been the place to find some of the most progressive, insane and “mature” animated programming on TV (stateside, at least). Due to its role in reviving such series as Family Guy and Futurama, FOX has paid attention to Adult Swim’s success over the years and saw that there was money to be made. Already promoting their “animation domination” with regular series Family Guy, The Simpsons and more, FOX has now developed a new unit of animation to focus on a late-night block of animated programming. Not only will this new unit focus on televised programming, they will also have counterparts running online. The shows will air on Saturdays from 11PM to 12:30 AM ET/PT and will feature four new animated series each season, starting in January 2013. The digital channel starts in 2012 and will feature 50 original creations. Hit the jump to check out the press release.

The Saturday schedule for Comic-Con has been released, and it looks to be a very big day for TV fans. However, Hall H will be having a fairly light day, with the highest profile panels being Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman and Tarsem Singh’s Immortals. Other films taking up shop in Hall H on Saturday include Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt, the comedy-fantasy Knights of Badassdom, the animated film Dorothy of Oz, and wrapping things up will be “An Early Evening with Kevin Smith.”
TV highlights include Chuck, Terra Nova, Being Human, Futurama, The Simpsons, Community, Family Guy, American Dad, Adventure Time, Once Upon a Time, The Vampire Diaries, The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra, Grimm (includes pilot screening), Fringe, Charlie’s Angels, The Secret Circle, Alcatraz (includes pilot screening), Teen Wolf, Nikita, Good Vibes, Person of Interest (includes pilot screening), and Mythbusters. The day also includes comic panels with Joss Whedon and Robert Kirkman. Hit the jump for a list of schedule highlights for movies and TV.

The return of Futurama last year was something to behold and Comedy Central delivered new original episodes for fans of the previously canceled series in what seemed like a dream come true. Now that dream will last even longer as EW has learned that the cable network has just ordered two cycles of 13 episodes each. For some reason Comedy Central likes splitting an entire season into two chunks over two years. So this new deal will keep Futurama around until 2013. As a huge fan of the series, I can’t tell you how happy I am to have the crew of Planet Express making deliveries for two more years.

It’s no surprise that Aaron Sorkin’s script for The Social Network won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Writers Guild Awards last night — that script is the favorite for pretty much any award it’s up for. The same is roughly true for David Seidler’s script for The King’s Speech in the original category. But the very British The King’s Speech does not meet WGA eligibility, leaving a vacuum at the top. Christopher Nolan stepped up and won Best Original Screenplay for Inception, news that ought to please the masses.
In television, Mad Men was named the Best Drama Series for the third year in a row, while Modern Family managed to end 30 Rock‘s three-year reign as Best Comedy Series. Hit the jump to see the full list of winners.

It’s definitely not our usual story, but this is just too cool to pass up. Want to prep your home for the next generation with style? A step-by-step guide to installing air powered sliding doors, as seen on Star Trek, has surfaced over at Instructables. The doors are normal in appearance (presumably to appease the designers wife), and maintenance free. They function using a hidden air compressor, a nifty concealed control panel, and a switch to activate the air. Hit the jump for a video of the futuristic doors in operation.

Though the series’ 100th episode a little while back served as a sort of season finale, the final episode in the most recent run of Futurama will actually air in the form of The Futurama Holiday Spectacular. Comedy Central announced today via press release that the three-part holiday episode will premire on the cable channel on Sunday, November 21st at 10/9c.
Featuring special guest voices like Al Gore and Coolio, the episode will follow the Planet Express crew as they race to preserve the traditional practices of the classic holidays of Xmas, Robanukah and Kwanzaa. Along the way, they encounter the murderous Kringlebot, Al Gore’s Head-In-A-Jar, mutated pine trees, droidls, fembot wrestling, albino humping worms, Kwanzaabot and giant space bees, all while learning the true meaning behind the holidays with an occasional song thrown in for good measure. Sounds like a great early Christmas present to me. Agreed?

With Halloween approaching, I thought you’d like to check out some awesome sci-fi Jack-O-Lanterns. I don’t know how many of you have tried carving a pumpkin, but it’s hard to do a straight line…let alone making an Autobot logo. And getting Yoda, Jacob (from Twilight) and Bender from Futurama to look good is kind of amazing. You can also see Jack-O-Lanterns from Harry Potter, Hellboy, a Cylon, Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, Thundercats and more. Hit the jump to check them all out.

In case you find it useful, here are links to the Collider take on anything and everything that went down at Comic-Con on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Here’s Thursday’s coverage…hit the jump for Friday and Saturday:
THURSDAY

If you’re a fan of science fiction, comedy, and/or womanizing robots, then you’re probably aware that the animated sci-fi comedy Futurama is back by popular demand and currently airing new episodes on Comedy Central. Today at Comic-Con, Comedy Central held a press conference for the show which is currently in its sixth season. Futurama creator Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) and executive producer David X. Cohen (former writer/producer for The Simpsons) as well as members of the cast including: Billy West, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, and Lauren Tom took questions from the press for about half an hour before being presented with plaques from Guinness World Records for being “The most critically acclaimed animated series currently on television.”
As to be expected, the press conference was casual, light-hearted, and filled with questions and answers about the show’s return. For your reading pleasure, I’ve generated a bulleted list of highlights from the press conference after the jump.

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products has sent over some images and info on their Comic-Con exclusives. While they might have previously released the images, this is my first time seeing them and I figure at least a few of you are like me. So if you’d like to see the exclusive toys for Avatar, The Simpsons, Predators, and Futurama, hit the jump. Finally, I’ll be at Comic-Con with a bunch of other Collider writers starting Wednesday afternoon. Expect a ton of updates from San Diego soon.

Even with the recently released Thursday and Friday schedules for San Diego Comic Con, the Saturday July 24 schedule is exploding with “epic epicness.” Hall H doesn’t have a bad apple in the bunch with the following movies all taking the stage: Green Lantern, Sucker Punch, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Let Me In, Resident Evil Afterlife, Paul, Cowboys & Aliens, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Then we cap the night off with Kevin Smith.
The TV schedule is just as good as it’ll feature sneak peaks of The Event, Futurama, Community, Family Guy and much more. Plus, even fans of Lost and Scott Pilgrim will find stuff to do.
Saturday is always the craziest day of the Con and 2010 is no exception. See the full schedule here and hit the jump for the Hall H schedule as well as our other highlights.

It has been seven years since Fox cancelled Futurama in 2003. Thanks to solid ratings in syndication, the animated sci-fi spoof was revived for four DVD movies, which Comedy Central repurposed for a makeshift season five starting in 2008. The network must have been happy with the results, as they ordered a whopping twenty-six new episodes. Hit the jump for a review of the first two, “Rebirth” and “In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela,” which premiere on June 24th at 10/9c.

New images from the return of Futurama to television have gone online. While the four Futurama movies received a mixed-to-unfavorable response, I’m hoping that the show will return to its reliable greatness when it goes back to half-hour episodes.
Hit the jump to check out the new images and click here to see the previously-released image from the upcoming season. Futurama returns to television on June 24th at 10pm on Comedy Central.

Comedy Central has unveiled its entire development slate and, as to be expected, there are plenty of funny concepts in the bunch. The standouts include Highdeas, which explores such stoner-friendly hypotheticals as “white chocolate milk” and “hamster-sized rhinos”, JC, the animated New York City adventures of one Jesus Christ, and The Fuzz, a police procedural in a corrupt city where humans and puppets co-exist.
Also in development are potential series from the likes of Jon Benjamin (Archer), Broken Lizard (Super Troopers), and Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show), plus a Wating… adaptation from Rob McKittrick, the writer/director of the feature film that starred Ryan Reynolds. Note that this in addition to already announced projects from Will Ferrell, Nick Swardson, and The Onion. For a complete rundown, hit the jump.

I’m still rather surprised that Futurama found its way back on the air seven years after its 2003 cancellation, but it is a pleasant surprise indeed. The show doesn’t return until June 24th, when new home Comedy Central will air the first two episodes of the sixth season back to back. But the network has passed along a still from the first of the two episodes, titled “Rebirth” (ha!), which is good for a chuckle. The recent direct-to-DVD features proved the series hasn’t lost its comedic bite: Bender’s Big Score in particular was fantastic.
