Yesterday, we reported that G.I. Joe: Retaliation would be moving all the way back to March 29, 2013 so the film could undergo a 3D post-conversion.  The news came as a shock considering the film was only a month away, and Paramount had already sunk millions of dollars into marketing the blockbuster.  So will it be worth it?  According to Dwayne Johnson, who plays Roadblock, “It will be.”  Responding on Twitter follower @JimmyinGA, Johnson said the production was “Designing new scenes to enhance 3D.”  Translation: re-shoots.

Paramount Pushes G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Back to March 29, 2013 for 3D Conversion

Well this is rather shocking.  Director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation was slated to open on June 29th, a little over a month away, but now Paramount has made a last-minute decision to push the film back all the way to March 29th of 2013.  Deadline reports that the move was made in order to do a “conscientious 3D” post-conversion.  This is a bit nuts, as we’ve already seen a ton of promotional material including trailers, TV spots, character posters, and even a fair share of interviews.  Hit the jump for much more.

The Cannes Film Festival is about to get underway, and studios are rolling out their promotional material to make sure that those attending screenings of the festival’s films don’t forget about the studio releases that are still to come later this year.  Our correspondent Magdalena (who you can follow on twitter) walked around the area of the festival earlier today and snapped some photos of the posters and billboards that are on display.  In addition to a really cool banner for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, she also brought us our first look at the Tom Cruise thriller One Shot, based on the popular Jack Reacher character book series from author Lee Child.  Moreover, there’s a pretty great set-up for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator outside one of the Carlton hotel.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount has been amping up the promotional campaign by debuting a ton of character posters and a great looking trailer.  As a fan of the first film, I’ll admit the sequel looks even better and it’s rocking a great cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

At this year’s CinemaCon, I got to speak with Adrianne Palicki (Lafy Jaye) and D.J. Cotrona (Flint).  They talked about their reaction to the new trailer and five-minute sizzle reel, the tone of the film, the action, and more.  In addition, with the Red Dawn remake getting released later this year, I asked Palicki is she had seen the finished film.  Hit the jump to watch.

New Posters for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Two new posters have been released for G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  The only movie this summer with a ninja avalanche, the second G.I. Joe film looks like all kinds of fun.  The story has the Joes striking back after almost being wiped out by Cobra forces under the direction of Cobra Commander and Presidential impersonator, Zartan (the President is played by Jonathan Pryce).  However, I’m not sure the Joes will succeed if they can’t even notice the giant Cobra Commander head behind them.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The film also stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce WillisG.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29th.

Paramount has released some new images from their upcoming releases as part of their 2012 preview.  As such, we’ve got new looks at The Dictator, the animated holiday film Rise of the Guardians, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.  We’ve seen one of the G.I. Joe images before, but this version is in super duper high resolution.  Out of these three films, I’m actually the most excited for Rise of the Guardians.  The adventure story centers on a group of heroes who must join forces to protect “the hopes, beliefs and imagination of the children all over the world.” The twist is that the heroes are Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, the Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost.  I loved the first trailer, and the character details we recent received were incredibly enticing.

Hit the jump to check out images from each film.  You can read Steve’s recap from Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation right hereThe Dictator opens on May 16th, G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits theaters on June 29th, and Rise of the Guardians will be released on November 21st.

New International Trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Though we’ve already posted a bounty of G.I. Joe: Retaliation material over the past few days, there’s one more Joe-related story to add to the pile: an international trailer.  The new trailer for the sequel premiered yesterday, and this international trailer differs from that one in two ways: more global focus, and more ninjas.  The first trailer for the film pleasantly surprised me, but yesterday’s clip left me a little disheartened.  I want to see a movie that’s not simply a CGI-heavy Transformers rehash, and I’m hoping director Jon M. Chu has a fun take up his sleeve that’s more hand-to-hand combat oriented.  Ninjas automatically make a movie at least 45% cooler, and Dwayne Johnson is the king of charisma.

Hit the jump to check out the international trailer and for a quick rundown on all our recent G.I. Joe: Retaliation coverage.  The film opens on June 29th and also stars Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

Cotrona.

Earlier today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I got to sit down with Dwayne Johnson for an extended interview.  We talked about how he was approached to play Roadblock, the tone of the film, how he collaborated with director Jon M. Chu before production began, his thoughts on the brand new trailer and the sizzle reel I saw last night (here’s my recap), and more.  In addition, with Johnson currently filming Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain, we talked about the crazy story it’s based on, the style Bay is going for, and he also said that after he wraps, he’ll start shooting Fast Six in London and Berlin and then he heads to New Zealand for director Brett Ratner’s Hercules.  Hit the jump to either watch or read what he had to say.

Director Jon M. Chu Talks G.I. JOE: RETAILIATION; Reveals Film Has 10-Minute Sequence of Dialogue-Free “Kick Ass Ninja Action”

If you grew up reading the G.I. Joe comics and loved issue 21 (the one that introduces Storm Shadow, features zero dialogue, and is widely regarded by fans as the best issue in the series), you’re going to love what director Jon M. Chu told me earlier today at CinemaCon about G.I.Joe: Retaliation.  It seems that he paid homage to the issue with a nine to ten minute sequence of dialogue-free kick ass ninja action!  In addition to revealing this awesome sequence, he told me the G.I. Joe sequel is around two hours (right now) and to expect between 5 to 15 minutes of deleted scenes on the Blu-ray.  We also talked about the soundtrack, the action scenes, the tone of the movie, and so much more.

As you can see in the latest trailer, the reason the sequel is subtitled Retaliation is because at the beginning of the film, Cobra wipes out most of the Joe’s and the surviving members go rogue to try and take down Cobra.  G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona. Hit the jump for more.

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount and Hasbro are starting to amp up the promotion of the movie by releasing a great new trailer and by having some of the cast (Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and D.J. Cotrona) talk about the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.  Prior to doing the interviews, I got to watch an impressive five minute sizzle reel and the new trailer with a group of reporters.  If you were disappointed with the first G.I. Joe movie, the sequel looks to be a big improvement, as it’s going for a more real world approach while still trying to be a fun action movie.  Also, with the majority of the Joe’s possibly getting killed in the first ten minutes  (which is why it’s called Retaliation), the sequel could almost be considered a reboot.  The sequel also stars Bruce Willis, Channning Tatum, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins.  Hit the jump for more.

Paramount has released a new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation that reveals more of the story and showcases some really cool action that’s been amplified by some great looking CGI.  While I was in the minority for liking the first G.I. Joe movie, I’ll admit the new trailer looks like a huge step forward for the franchise and the casting of Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock and Bruce Willis as the original Joe seems like it’s going to pay off in a big way at the box office.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer which features London getting hit by a Cobra missle.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29 and also stars Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

Last week, nine character posters from the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation debuted.  We got up close and personal looks at Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and more, and today the final character poster has gone online alongside a brand new international poster.  The last character revealed is Flint, played in the film by D.J. Cotrona.  We’ve also have a nifty international poster to share that features Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) flanked by the very intimidating Willis and Johnson.  The central theme of these posters seems to be that the cast of G.I. Joe: Retaliation is not to be messed with.

Hit the jump to check out the posters, and be on the lookout for the new trailer that debuts tonight at midnight PST.  Directed by Jon M. Chu, G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens on June 29th.
