I love discovering new artists. While it's always great to see the latest work by Martin Ansin or Tyler Stout, walking into a gallery and not being sure what you're going to see is a great feeling...especially when the art is well done. And that's what happened last night as I walked into the Shannon Bonatakis and Kiersten Essenpreis show at Gallery1988 in Los Angeles. Last week at the Bad Robot show, Jensen Karp (the man behind Gallery1988) told me I'd want to stop by to see Shannon and Kiersten's work. He was definitely right.

As you can see in the 50 pictures after the jump, the show is loaded with mostly original works that are smart and interesting. I hate trying to describe why a piece of art works because it's so subjective, but I promise if you check it out, you'll agree that it's worth your time. In addition, while the show is mostly original's, Essenpreis has 9 screenprints and they're very low runs. If you see anything you like, I'd advise you to hit the online drop in a few hours before it sells out. Hit the jump for more.

If you're in the L.A. area, I'd definitely stop by and check it out. Here's the info:
Gallery 1988 (East):

If you're a fan of Bad Robot and live in Los Angeles area, it's time to head over to the new Gallery1988 location at 7308 Melrose. That's because the gallery has teamed up with some great artists to create a new gallery show focused on the TV shows and movies produced by Bad Robot, like Fringe, Lost, Super 8, Person of Interest, Alias, Cloverfield, and Star Trek. The show opens tonight and runs until May 18th, so you've got plenty of time to check it out. However, since many of the items are very limited or original pieces of art, you probably want to head over soon if you want to buy anything.

Last night the gallery held a private reception for Bad Robot and I was able to stop by and take about 100 pictures of everything on display. Hit the jump to see the pictures.

Paramount has partnered with Gallery 1988 and artist Anthony Petrie for a very special poster to commemorate tomorrows release of Jon M. Chu’s G. I. Joe: Retaliation, and we've got four of the 100 copies to giveaway to some of our readers. If you'd like more info on the poster and how to win one... meet me after the jump.

In the past, the process of entering Limited Paper’s giveaways and contests has run the gamut from “super-easy” to “mildly difficult” to “You mean I have to do something to win this thing?” We still plan on making some of our future contests a little harder to win than others—if nothing else, it keeps things interesting on our end—but today we’re offering up a giveaway that almost literally couldn’t be any easier. Before we get into the “How”, let’s look at the “What”:

G.I. Joe: Retaliation by Anthony Petrie
	Digital Print
Limited edition of only 100 copies
4 copies available via giveaway through Limited Paper/Collider.com

If you’re wondering: no, this isn’t a screenprint…but as it turns out, it’s also not a lithograph (which is what Limited Paper HQ thought upon seeing it). When reached for comment about the piece, Petrie explained that it’s actually a digital print, and if you’re interested in knowing more about how the piece was created you can head on over to Gallery88’s website here. It’s definitely a unique concept, and the fact that it’s so incredibly limited will probably make copies of the print even more attractive to collectors.

So, how do ...

Last week, BAFTA premiered special posters for their Best Picture nominees. Today, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had followed suit by teaming up with Gallery1988 and various artists to create posters for this year's Best Picture Oscar nominees. There are some impressive posters, and I'm curious to see if they're going to go on sale at some point. The Academy's website lists the dimensions and type of production (screen print), which leads me to believe that these might be available for purchase some day. I'm sure there are plenty of readers who would love to get their hands on Mark Englert's print for Django Unchained. [Update: Gallery1988 has tweeted the following: "G1988 x The Academy. Official. 2/14 - 2/17. More soon." so it looks like you should get your wallets ready, and keep an eye on their official website.]

Hit the jump to check out the posters. The Academy Awards will be held on February 24th at 7pm EST on ABC.

Last night, Gallery1988 and Hello Giggles premiered "Young Adult," which featured 60 female artists taking on their favorite teen-focused literature of the ’80s and ’90s (like Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High). The Hello Giggles co-creators, producer Sophia Rossi, actress Zoey Deschanel and writer Molly “Molls” McAleer, came up with the show’s theme and helped put together the show. Shortly before the doors opened, I walked around the gallery and took over pictures of everything on display. Some of the artists included Bec Winnel, Shana Bilbrey, Kiersten Essenpreis, Danielle Buerli, Kristin Tercek , Jessica Deahl, Tracie Ching, Lorena Alvarez Gomez, Shannon Finch, Misha, and many more. Hit the jump for the images.

If you'd like to see the art for yourself, the show runs until Saturday, February 23, 2013 and it's at the Melrose location (7020 Melrose Ave, LA 90038).

If you're a fan of Woody Allen and live in the Los Angeles area, I strongly suggest heading down to Gallery 1988's Venice location for their new show "The Humorist." The show opened last night and runs until February 2. Unlike some shows that are mostly screenprints, what's great about this one is the amount of diversity by the talented artists. In addition, since Allen has made over forty films, everyone had plenty of choices and I'm glad some of them went with his early work like Sleeper, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, and Bananas. Like all Gallery 1988 shows, the artwork will be "dropping" later today on their website. Since everything is limited, if you see something you like, don't wait too long to purchase.

Hit the jump to check out sixty pictures from the show.

Finally, here's a list of some of the artists that did pieces for the show. I'll try and pur together a more complete list later today:
Anne Banks, Rezatron, Stanley Chow, Matt Taylor, Anne Banks, Sam Gilbey, Fernando Reza, Anthony Petrie, Graham Erwin, Matt Leunig, Rich Pellegrino, Meghan Stratman, Derek Ead, Jonathan Bergeron, Joey Spiotto, Ridge Rooms, Cuyler Smith, Bob Rissetto, Nick Comparone, Jason Liwag, Miranda Dressler, Rocco Malatesta, Aaron Jasinski, James Gilleard, Matt Owen, Meghan Stratman, Matt Owen, and many more.

In the last jam-packed installment of Limited Paper, we looked at Gallery1988’s Breaking Bad series, we revealed three new posters from the folks at Mondo, and we shared a handful of exclusive images from Ltd. Art Gallery’s upcoming Press Start show. There was a lot to look at, and today’s column will be no different: after the jump , we’ve got information on Ian Glaubinger’s 6-poster Monsters of Horror series, a head’s up on Spoke Art’s soon-to-be-released Raging Bull prints, and—last but not least—we reveal who won a trio of free posters in our exclusive Star Wars/Gangsta contest. Meet me after the jump for all this (and more), my fellow Limited Paper enthusiasts.

It’s Friday here at Limited Paper-- and everywhere else, for that matter--and we’ve got a trio of time-sensitive news items to share with you today: the first concerns a quartet of Raging Bull posters that are about to go on sale any minute (get your credit cards ready!); the second concerns a kick-ass poster series from the artist who created one of our favorite prints at Gallery 1988’s Breaking Bad show; and the final one concerns the lucky winners of last week’s Star Wars/Gangsta contest. Let’s get through these quick, folks!

It has been six long years, but the Bluthe family is finally going to grace your televisions once again in 2013! Since that's still far away, why were hundreds of Arrested Development fans lined up on Friday night in Hollywood? Well, a wise man once said, “There's Always Money in the Banana Stand”, and for a small gallery on Melrose, he was right! Gallery 1988, a Pop-art gallery in Los Angeles, hosted an all Arrested Development themed show, using those words as its' moniker. With over sixty artists work featured and wall to wall prints, paintings, dolls, and figures, this show was nothing to shake a frozen banana at. Speaking of frozen bananas, those were for sale also. Continued after the jump.

Upon arrival at the gallery, about an hour before opening, there was already a healthy line of devoted fans and art collectors. Someone also must have “Blue” themselves, because there were blue handprints and streaks all over the windows and walls. Before I even got to the art, I was greeted by a gallery worker in full Lindsay Bluthe attire, including the famous “Slut” shirt. After averting my eyes in hopes of some gold Kruggerands, I moved onto the reason we were all there.

Every piece was unique and chocked full of jokes, some more obscure then others. All the Bluthes were represented, including Franklin, as was Ms. Featherbottom, J. Walter Weatherman (well his arm), and Lucille 2, amongst many others. A mixed media Tony Wonder play-set, from Mike Minogue ...

As you’ve probably noticed, movie-poster collecting has turned into a Ron Burgundy-sized “Big Deal” over the past few years: everywhere you look, brilliantly talented artists like Aaron Horkey, Tyler Stout, and Ken Taylor are joining forces with places like Gallery 1988, IAm8Bit, and the newly-opened Mondo Gallery to create collectible, gorgeously-rendered works of art based on your favorite movies and TV shows, and every time one of these posters drops…a poster-collector is born.

And where do we–the die-hard paper-geeks of the world– go for our news? For our drop announcements? For interviews with our favorite artists? For reckless rumor-mongering about upcoming events? Last week, we unveiled Limited Paper, a new ongoing series here at Collider.com designed to keep everyone from poster-collecting veterans to poster-collecting n00bs up to speed on just those issues. Want to know what’s new in the limited paper world this week? Meet me after the jump, folks.

Last week, we debuted Limited Paper here at Collider.com, and the response was fantastic. Better, even, than we ever could have hoped for. We got a strong wave of positive feedback from the poster-collecting masses (and more than a few thumbs up from some of our favorite people working in the print-producing industry), and were thrilled to discover that you guys are just as excited about this terribly geeky stuff as we are. So, first of all, thanks to all who shared links to Limited Paper, wrote in with supportive comments/suggestions, and those who expressed interest in sharing story ideas; it was all much appreciated.

This week, we’re actually ...

As you’ve probably noticed, movie-poster collecting has turned into a Ron Burgundy-sized “Big Deal” over the past few years: everywhere you look, brilliantly talented artists like Martin Ansin, Tyler Stout, and Olly Moss are joining forces with places like Gallery 1988, IAm8Bit, and the newly-opened Mondo Gallery to create collectible, gorgeously-rendered works of art based on your favorite movies and TV shows, and every time one of these posters drops…a poster-collector is born.

And where do we--the die-hard paper-geeks of the world-- go for our news? For our drop announcements? For interviews with our favorite artists? For reckless rumor-mongering about upcoming events? One or two dark corners of the internet might traffic in the kind of information collectors crave, but we think we can streamline that process a bit (and even if we fail, it is an excuse to ramble on about posters for the umpteenth time, and we never get tired of that). Wanna see what we’ve put together? Check out Limited Paper #1 after the jump, folks.

What?! A new column devoted entirely to poster-collecting? And it’s not just wall-to-wall Mondo stuff? And there’ll be interviews and drop announcements? A weekly last-minute head’s up for whatever’s being released Thursday/Friday?

That’s right. And also? We’d like you to help us shape it.

That’s right. This has all been a trick, and now you’re being put to work (heh-heh, sucker). First, we’re inviting you to read through the piece below. After reading all the way through, meet us at the end of the “Thing ...

With Marvel's The Avengers opening this weekend, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is putting on an Avengers themed art show that's filled with some really cool stuff. Featuring original art, posters and prints that are all for sale, if you’re in the L.A. area, it's definitely worth checking out. However, for everyone that won't have a chance to stop by, I attended a preview tonight and took a ton of pics. I even snapped Joss Whedon and Clark Gregg in front of some of the art. Hit the jump for the pics and more info.

If you'd like to stop by and see the art for yourself:

Gallery 1988 Los Angeles

7020 Melrose Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90038

Located at the SouthEast corner of Melrose and La Brea. Also, according to the website, the show is open May 3 from 7 to 10pm.

As you'll see in the pics below, they've got a lot of cool stuff. Most of the posters/prints are under $50.

Finally, the cool Avengers themed cupcakes are from thecakemamas.com. You can follow them on Twitter here.

For more on Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, here are my interviews with:

	Joss Whedon,
	Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios President)
	Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk)
	Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
Chris Hemsworth with Chris Evans (Thor/Captain America)
	Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).

If you live in Los Angeles and are a fan of comic book characters and/or art, you’re in luck. Disney announced today that Gallery1988 in Hollywood will be playing host to a bevy of artwork inspired by The Avengers. The art show will run through the film’s opening weekend, May 3rd through May 6th, so you can partake in more The Avengers goodness before and after you catch the flick. Disney sent over a couple of sample prints that will be on display, and my jealousy-meter raised up quite a few ticks after having a peek at what Gallery1988 will have to offer.

Hit the jump to check out the images and for more information on the art show. The event will feature the work of artists such as Dave Perillo, Rhys Cooper, Scott Campbell, Luke Chueh, Ken Garduno, Kiersten Essenpreis and NC Winters, as well as others. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th.

For more information on the art show, head over to Gallery1988’s official site. Here are a few works done by Dave Perillo, Ken Garduno, and DKNG Studios, respectively.

Here's some more art that will be featured at the show (via /Film) from artists Rhys Cooper and Scott Campbell, respectively:

Here’s the press release:
BURBANK, CALIF. (April 23, 2012) — Marvel Studios announced today that Gallery1988 in Hollywood, Calif., will mount a show of art inspired by the Marvel Super Heroes featured in the highly anticipated, summer event movie “Marvel’s The Avengers.” The show, sponsored by Visa Signature, will run ...

Tonight, Texas based Mondotees was at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles for one night only. They were there to release two limited posters (Gremlins and Alien) and to sell off a few posters that were previously sold out. Also, they had Kevin Tong creating customized hand-drawn movie prints and Harry Diaz live screen-printing custom movie merchandise. If you've never seen the awesome posters and t-shirts that Mondotees sells, I really suggest checking out the website. Especially if you love movies.

While tonight's show started at 7pm, I managed to get in a bit early to photograph what was on display. If you didn't get a chance to go and were curious what they had, hit the jump for a ton of photos.

I'm offering the photos two ways. You can either look at them in our flash player, or you can click on any of the images below. If you have never seen the awesome work of Mondotees, you're about to wish you were here in Los Angeles tonight.

Finally, I took two sets of photos tonight. Some had flash and some didn't.
