Game of Thrones is more than half-way through its excellent second season, and the show has seen more than its fair share of ugly characters.  However, the Stark family provides the relief of watching honorable people, and Richard Madden and Kit Harington play two of the show’s most admirable characters.  Madden plays Robb Stark who is leading a war to rescue his sisters from King’s Landing, and gain independence for the North.  Harington plays Ned Stark’s bastard son Jon Snow and we’ve seen the character try to retain his father’s steadfast morality in the face of the Night Watch’s cold-hearted pragmatism.  Our partners at Omelete got to sit down with the two actors and talk with them about a variety of topics including the series’ popularity, the controversial amount of sex scenes, the show’s production values, the influence of author George R.R. Martin, and more.

Hit the jump to check out the interview.  Game of Thrones airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on HBO.

Director Chris Fisher Talks MEETING EVIL, WAREHOUSE 13, PERSON OF INTEREST and More

The crime drama Meeting Evil, (currently available through Magnolia Ultra VOD here prior to the film’s theatrical release on May 4th) follows John (Luke Wilson), a depressed suburban family man and recently fired realtor, who offers to help a stranger named Richie (Samuel L. Jackson) with his car. Upon doing so, John is quickly sucked into a nightmarish murder spree that forces him to go to any length he can to protect his family.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, writer/director Chris Fisher talked about how this project came about, why it was important that the characters live in a grey area, what led him to Luke Wilson as the lead, and how intimidating Samuel L. Jackson’s professionalism is.  He also talked about being the producing director on the Syfy series Warehouse 13 (he’s directing six of the 20 episodes for the next season), how he’s going to direct a couple episodes for Season 2 of Person of Interest, and how he would sell his soul to direct an episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones.  Check out what he had to say after the jump:

GAME OF THRONES Renewed for Third Season

Well that took a little longer than expected. Following the record-breaking ratings after the second season premiere, HBO has finally announced that they have renewed Game of Thrones for a third season. Network president Michael Lombardo says, “Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them. We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.” Check out the tease of the coming season right here, and if you haven’t yet, feel free to read my review of the second season premiere.  Hit the jump for the press release.

Help Arya Stark Escape the Sociopathic Teen King in a GAME OF THRONES Coloring Book

Game of Thrones can get quite intense – if you caught the season 2 premiere this past Sunday night, a specific scene might come to mind that was particularly gut-wrenching. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with the material and that’s exactly what the folks at TV.com have been up to. As a huge sucker for puzzles, I totally feel for their Jumble edition of Game of Thrones and now they’re back with more with their show-themed coloring book.

The pages have just what you’d expect from any kiddie coloring book, G-rated games. They even manage to tame the infamous “crown for a king” scene, swapping Viserys’ liquid gold for a porkpie, doo rag and other far less harmful headwear. I doubt you’d find a beheaded [spoiler] in any coloring book for toddlers, but in the case of Arya’s maze to boy clothes and freedom, it’s wholly necessary. Hit the jump to check out excerpts from the book. Beware, the images contain spoilers for season one of Game of Thrones.

GAME OF THRONES Season Two Premiere Gets Highest Series Ratings Yet; Watch a Preview of What’s Coming This Season

As if there was any doubt that the second season premiere of Game of Thrones would be big, the ratings are in just to make a point. EW reports the return to Westeros was the most watched program on Sunday night, even beating out AMC’s longer running drama Mad Men and the NCAA’s March Madness basketball match-ups. The premiere garnered 3.86 million viewers which is not only a new high for the entire series, but also a new high among viewers 18 to 49, a demographic which helped make Game of Thrones the most popular show that night. The series is up a whopping 73% from the premiere last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the announcement of renewal for a third season came within the week.

In the meantime, check out the preview of things to come in this second season, which aired after the premiere on Sunday, right after the jump. You can also read my review of the premiere here.

GAME OF THRONES Season Two Premiere Review

With Mark Addy and Sean Bean having their characters going with the gods last season, when the opening credits for Game of Thrones roll this time around, it’s Peter Dinklage, playing Tyrion Lannister, whose name comes up first, and it’s only appropriate as he is the strongest part of the first two episodes of the highly anticipated second season.  But that’s not to say the rest of the premiere is weak; far from it.  In fact, the second season is merely more of the same in the best way possible as it picks up almost immediately after the end of the first season as war begins between the Lannisters and the Starks and the stakes and drama have never been higher.  And along with all the familiar faces fighting for their families honor and respect amongst the rest of the kingdoms, there’s plenty of new characters to keep things interesting.  Read my full take on the second season premiere of Game of Thrones after the jump.

Catch Up on GAME OF THRONES with 22-Minute Season One Recap

There’s no doubt that you should take the time to watch each and every bit of the 10-episode first season of Game of Thrones. But sometimes, when you find a show, you just don’t have the kind of time to catch up before the next season hits the air (though in the age of DVR’s and OnDemand, it’s not all that hard). Thankfully, for the lazy but interested viewer, HBO has put together a 22-minute recap of the first season complete with a sneak peak at the forthcoming second season which will premiere next weekend on April 1st. It glosses over certain aspects, but introduces all the major characters and story points for those who just want to jump into the deep end as soon as possible. Watch it after the jump!

Atlanta Folks: See the Season 2 Premiere of GAME OF THRONES Early

I’m excited for the return of Game of Thrones even though I full expect major character deaths and everyone being shitty to each other.  I haven’t read the books, but this is the expectation based off the first season.  Anticipation for season two is reaching fever pitch, and Atlanta folks will have a chance to break the fever early.  As we previously reported, the Atlanta Film Festival is showing the premiere of Game of Thrones on the big screen, but we didn’t know what date.  I assumed it would be on April 1st since that’s when everyone else is getting to see it, but HBO and Xfinity are giving fans in Atlanta a chance to see season two premiere a bit earlier.  Hit the jump for more.

WonderCon 2012: 40 Pictures from the Convention Floor Including Replica Costumes, an Original KING KONG Poster, STAR TREK, AVENGERS, and More

Since most Collider readers won’t have the opportunity to attend this years WonderCon in Anaheim, California, I decided to do the next best thing: take a ton of pictures from the convention floor.   While WonderCon is still a small convention when compared to its sibling Comic-Con, I love being able to walk the floor with ease and I also cherish the abundance of indie dealers that haven’t (yet) been pushed out by Hollywood and the huge corporations.  However, if you like getting all the free swag that’s in abundance in San Diego every summer, WonderCon is not for you.  But if you love geek culture and live near Disneyland, I definitely suggest attending tomorrow or Sunday.

Hit the jump for all the images including posters for Total Recall, The Amazing Spider-Man, Game of Thrones, Resident Evil 5, an original King Kong poster that’s being sold for ten thousand dollars, replica costumes from Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek and The Avengers, replicas lightsabers, Before Watchmen stuff, and a ton of random cool stuff.

New GAME OF THRONES Season Two Poster Spoils Part of Season One

Obviously, because the show is such a huge hit and memes and every scrap of news on Game of Thrones shows up everywhere, there’s no doubt that plenty of us have seen the entire first season of HBO’s epic fantasy series. The hype machine is in full swing with the second season premiere coming in just a couple of weeks on April 1st, but that means those who aren’t caught up or on the bandwagon after the first season have the potential to have some things spoiled for them. A new fan poster (released as part of a fan program set up by HBO) for the second season does just that by revealing the death of a major character from the first season. It’s pretty gruesome, but it’s simple and effective, like most of the marketing so far. We’ve put the poster after the jump to avoid upsetting anyone, but at this point, if you haven’t caught up on Game of Thrones, you need to get your priorities straight, start neglecting your family, friends and job, and get on this train. Again, a MAJOR SPOILER for season one is included after the jump.

New Trailer for GAME OF THRONES Season 2

As the premiere date looms closer for the second season of HBO’s excellent series Game of Thrones, we’re starting to get a better idea of what to expect. While the first trailers were more about mood and atmosphere, more recent ones have delved a bit into the plot. This new trailer is a case of the latter, as it focuses on the dangerous act of falling in love in the Game of Thrones universe (read: if you fall in love, people will die). I’m incredibly eager to see what season two of the series has in store, and this new trailer is sufficiently swell.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. If you missed any of our previous Game of Thrones coverage, be sure to check out series production videos, character posters, and an image gallery. Season two of Game of Thrones begins Sunday, April 1st on HBO.

GAME OF THRONES Season One DVD Review

game-of-thrones-season-one-dvd-review-slice

HBO’s Game of Thrones comes at an interesting time in geekdom, and its success speaks to the barriers that have been broken. Though fantasy and science fiction have often been popular cinematically, on television it’s been stuck in a Stargate-esque ghetto. But now we’ve got one of the most thoughtful shows currently on air on one of the most prestigious networks that also happens to be about dragons and swordplay. Perhaps the better arbiter of what crosses over to the mainstream and what doesn’t is quality, and Game of Thrones is definitely an engrossing show even for those who’ve never picked up a twenty sided die. Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage lead a mostly British cast in a tale about warring families in a fantastical middle age. Our review of Game of Thrones on DVD follows after the jump.

The Night Is Dark and Full of Couch Gags: THE SIMPSONS Parodies GAME OF THRONES Credits

It was only a matter of time before The Simpsons set its sights on Game of Thrones.  Tonight’s episode of The Simpsons used Game of Thrones‘ stunning opening credits as the basis for the couch gag and the animation did not disappoint.  Since we’ve known since the end of Game of Thrones‘ first season that season two of would be in spring 2012, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Simpsons had this couch gag waiting and aired it to coincide with Game of Thrones‘ upcoming season premiere.

2012 Atlanta Film Festival Line-Up Announced; Includes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS and Season Premiere Screening of GAME OF THRONES

The line-up for this year’s 2012 Atlanta Film Festival has been announced.  The festival will open with the comedy L!fe Happens starring Krysten Ritter, Kate Bosworth, and Rachel Bilson.  I don’t know about the opener (I love Ritter), but ATLFF will have a popular closer with Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods finishing out the festival.  In between there’s some must-see stuff like Compliance (one of the best films I saw at Sundance), God Bless America (I didn’t care for it, but I was in the minority when I saw it at TIFF), the charming and Oscar-nominated Monsieur Lazhar, the horror anthology V/H/S, and the drama The Woman in the Fifth starring Ethan Hawke and Kristen Scott Thomas.  Also, ATLFF has wisely recognized the cinematic quality of Game of Thrones and so in partnership with HBO and Xfinity, the festival will be showing the premiere of Season 2 at the Rialto Center for the Arts.

Hit the jump for the press release, which includes the full line-up.  The 2012 Atlanta Film Festival runs from March 23 – April 1st.

Now that it’s March, the second season of Game of Thrones is just one month away and war is coming. Doing their best to get fans involved leading up to the season premiere, HBO has created an outreach program where posters made by fans will be unveiled leading up to the premiere on April 1st. In addition, the network has just released another official poster for the series as well. Both are fantastic and should be good for fans to stick on their desktop or even on their phone backgrounds. Stay tuned as more posters are revealed before the second season premiere, and check out the new posters, as well as the second season trailer, after the jump.
