A new domestic trailer and poster for director Neil Jordan’s vampire drama Byzantium have been released online. The film stars Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan as a mother/daughter vampire duo who arrive in a small British town where their secret doesn’t stay kept for long. We’ve already seen a couple of international trailers for the pic, but this one does a nice job of teasing the kind of moody, dramatic vampire story that Jordan has crafted, not unlike his previous film Interview with the Vampire. We see a lot of Ronan’s character mulling over her immortality, and in a bit of a twist it appears that women are forbidden from being turned into vampires.

We have a couple of casting stories for you this morning. First up, Vince Vaughn is in talks to star in the comedy Business Trip written by Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness). No director is currently attached, and THR reports that the vague logline is simply “the story centers on a man who flies to Europe for business. Travel mayhem ensues.” We also don’t know much about Vaughn’s character, but I’m willing to bet it’s the same one he almost always plays. He’ll probably keep playing it in the comedies he has coming later this year, The Internship (June 7th) and The Delivery Man (October 4th).

A new international trailer for Interview with the Vampire director Neil Jordan’s upcoming vampire drama Byzantium has been released online. The film stars Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan as a mother/daughter vampire duo who arrive in a small British town where their secret doesn’t stay kept for long. This latest trailer certainly highlights the film’s impressively stylish visuals, while also showcasing the intensity of the story. Matt caught the film at TIFF last year and expressed his disappointment with the finished product in his review, and I’m interested to see how Jordan sets this pic apart from Interview with the Vampire, which also explores the notion of cursed immortality.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Sam Riley, Caleb Landry Jones, and Jonny Lee Miller. Byzantium opens on June 28th.

Paramount Pictures is now officially developing a sequel to this past January’s R-rated genre pic Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. You’d be forgiven for being a bit surprised at the news, as the film was a flop domestically with a total gross of just $54.6 million. However, overseas the film has now taken in over $150 million. Against a purported budget of $50 million, the pic’s worldwide gross of $205 million is apparently enough to justify moving forward with the follow-up, as Deadline reports that a sequel is now officially in development. A new international trailer for director Neil Jordan’s (Interview with the Vampire) new film Byzantium has been released online. The film stars Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan as a mother/daughter vampire duo who arrive in a small British town where their secret doesn’t stay kept for long. This trailer makes the film look very much like a companion piece to Interview with the Vampire, as we see the duo’s struggle play out over multiple time periods and situations. As a fan of Jordan’s previous entry into the vampire genre, I’m very much looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and click here to read Matt’s review. The film also stars Jonny Lee Miller, Caleb Landry Jones, and Sam Riley. Byzantium is currently awaiting a U.S. release date.

Some new images from Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters have cropped up. If you caught the latest red-band trailer for the flick, you know that Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) are seeking to exterminate witches with their own brand of gratuitous vengeance. These new images give a good look at the characters and their weapons (is that Looper’s Blunderbuss?) as well as co-stars Peter Stormare (Fargo) and Thomas Mann (Project X). Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters opens on January 25th. Hit the jump to check out the new images.

We’re happy to host the exclusive premiere of the new red-band trailer for Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. While the previous trailer highlighted a lot of the witch-killing action by the brother-and-sister team, this new trailer sheds a bit more light on their backstory. Hansel and Gretel are revealed to have a motive for killing witches that goes beyond just having a badass profession. We also get a few new one-liners from title stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, which are good for a laugh and great for setting the tone of the picture, one that thankfully doesn’t take itself too seriously.
From director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) comes the dark fairy tale Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, also starring Peter Stormare, Famke Janssen, Thomas Mann and Zoe Bell, which opens January 25, 2013. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

The first trailer for the comedy-drama Unfinished Song has been released online. The story takes place in London and centers on a grumpy retiree (Terrence Stamp) who reluctantly joins a local choir made up of elderly folk at the behest of his wife (Vanessa Redgrave). Gemma Arterton plays the upbeat choir director, and the trailer promises all the staples of a Hallmark movie. The cast isn’t bad so it’s possible that the full film isn’t as saccharine as it looks, but the trailer doesn’t exactly give me hope.

Get a taste of the action by checking out the red-band trailer here.

Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans) and Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) are poised to pair up for a new romantic comedy. The Wrap reports that the two will star in The Pre-Nup for writer/director Jonathan Lynn (Clue, The Whole Nine Yards). The story revolves around an American groom who, the night before his wedding, suggests to his British bride that they get a pre-nup. The groom’s father is a former rock star who threatens to cut him off if he doesn’t get his fiancée to sign the document. The report doesn’t specify which roles these two actors will play, but given the age difference I’m inclined to believe that Arterton will play the bride while Bonneville might portray the rocker father.

Just in time for Halloween, a new red band trailer and poster for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters have been released. The action-fantasy film stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the titular fairy tale characters, though in this story they’re all grown up and out for some very bloody witch payback. The pic actually looks like it could be a fun ride, with plenty of gore and inventive kills to keep genre fans happy. I’m a little disheartened by the reliance on CGI effects vs. practical work as the story provides the perfect opportunity for some great physical effects. It’s also a tad disappointing to see the “damsel in distress” role that Arterton appears to be thrown into while Renner is painted as the “sexy hero,” but we’ve only seen brief glimpses of the characters in the trailers so hopefully she holds her own in the full film.
Hit the jump to check out the red band trailer and poster. Directed by Tommy Wirkola, the film also stars Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters opens in 3D on January 11th, 2013.

The possibilities of the vampire story have become increasingly limited. The story has been around for so long, and has been done so many ways, especially of late, that it’s difficult for a storyteller to come in and find a new spin within the predefined parameters of what we all agree is a “vampire”: a bloodsucking immortal. In his new film Byzantium, director Neil Jordan has seized upon the “immortal” part and how a vampire would always be, in a sense, frozen in the past and unable to move forward. Consequently, Byzantium has trouble gaining any momentum. As its protagonist moans about telling a story hundreds of times but never finding anyone to listen, the film struggles to find a rhythm and gets bogged down in some cringeworthy dialogue. But the most frustrating aspect of Byzantium is how it fails to pursue a thoughtful, gender-related idea that holds far more potential than another exploration of how vampires are accursed creatures sentenced to wander the earth alone forever and ever anon.
