The 2011 Golden Globes nominations have been announced. I don’t pay them much attention as an awards barometer since their nominations can be purchased (the Globes are run by the shoddy Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and the event is more to get a bunch of celebrities in a room together and hand them an over-valued award. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a fun show to watch and this year should be plenty entertaining with Ricky Gervais returning to host.
As for the nominees, you’ll find the usual suspects: The Artist, The Descendants, Hugo, The Help, and Midnight in Paris. I have to give the Globes credit for having a separate comedy category, which allows actors like Brendan Gleeson (The Guard) and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) to get nominated. As for “snubs” (again, it’s tough to take the Globes nominations seriously), nothing from The Muppets was nominated for Best Song . Hit the jump for the full list of nominees. Winners will be announced on January 15th.

With awards season in full swing, the Producers Guild of America has just announced the television series nominees for the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards which will be announced on January 21, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. In the comedy category, I can’t believe a show with such inconsistent writing quality as Glee beats out something like Community, but there you have it. There’s still some deserving nominations with Modern Family and Parks and Recreation though. On the dramatic side of things Game of Thrones gets some well-earned loved for their first season and both Mad Men and Dexter continue their collection of accolades. For the rest of the nominees in each category as well as talk shows, competition shows and non-fictions shows, hit the jump.

You may recall that Fox slotted an episode of Glee after this year’s Super Bowl. The audience overlap is limited, but the minds behind Glee did their best to appeal to football fans by putting some of the kids in pads for that week’s centerpiece dance number. Remember that more is better on Glee, though, so they were also zombies, singing a mashup of Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll.” Glee followed up on the Jackson thread with tonight’s episode (which I have not yet seen), which featured “Man in the Mirror” and The Jackson 5 song “ABC,” as well as Janet Jackson’s “Control.” So it comes as no surprise when creator Ryan Murphy announced earlier today that he will follow up on tributes to Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga with an episode devoted to the King of Pop. It took time to talk the Jackson estate into the idea, but with their approval, the writers will fast track production on the episode so it will be ready to air on January 24. The cast will shoot half of the episode before the holiday break and finish the rest in early January. TV Guide says to expect 10-12 of Jackson’s songs to be Glee-d.

Wait, what?! Yes, folks, in a move that would certainly have Han Solo screaming, “Chewie, get us outta here!” THR is reporting that everyone’s favorite walking carpet, Chewbacca, will make a guest appearance on Glee. Cast members like Chris Colfer, Harry Shum Jr. and Mark Salling have all tweeted their own photos with the Wookiee, but how will the character fit into the musical series? Apparently there’s a Christmas special within the episode that throws back to both the strange Star Wars holiday special from decades ago and the Judy Garland Christmas Special as well. However, THR doesn’t note whether film franchise star Peter Mayhew actually suited up for the episode. One thing’s for sure, Chewbacca will not be belting out any tunes on the series, but the episode, airing Tuesday, December 13th at 8/7c will feature at least six holiday musical numbers.

Midseason is just around the corner, and now Fox is chiming in with their premiere dates for new and returning series. First of all, let’s just get this out of the way, the reality competition giant American Idol will return for its eleventh season on Wednesday, January 18th and 8/7c and Thursday January 19th at the same time.
Now let’s get on with the real series starting with Kiefer Sutherland’s return to Fox with Touch from Heroes creator Tim Kring debuting on Wednesday, January 25th at 9/8c. That’s a prime slot right after an airing of American Idol too. However, the series run won’t actually start until Monday, March 19th at 9/8c. For more premiere dates and times for shows like Alcatraz, Breaking In, The Finder, Napoleon Dynamite and returning shows like New Girl and Glee, hit the jump.

Without Gwyneth Paltrow around the halls of William McKinley High School to teach the Glee kids Spanish, something has to be done. And who better to teach the kids then a native speaker of the language. That’s why it’s a bit wacky to hear from TV Line that Ricky Martin is slated to guest star early next year as the new Spanish teacher. You can pretty much be sure that there will be some rendition of “Livin’ La Vida Loca” or “She Bangs” tossed around at some point (otherwise why even bother?) since he’ll be a part of at least two big musical numbers, so children of the late 90′s should have something to look forward to next year. This will be Martin’s biggest acting role to date, far-surpassing his stint on General Hospital at the height of his musical fame in the 90′s

The third season premiere of Glee is just around the corner, and now we have an upbeat new promo complete with a satisfying glitter bomb, an upbeat cover of The Go-Go’s song We Got the Beat and a rocking new look for Quinn. Also fans eagerly awaiting the union of Mr. Schuester and Emma get a special treat in the promo too. As inconsistent as the quality of writing is on the show, it’s the music and Jane Lynch that keeps me coming back for more musical craziness on Fox. The third season premieres on Tuesday, September 20th but you can check out the new promo after the jump.

With director Kevin Tancharoen’s (Fame) Glee: The 3D Concert Movie hitting theaters this weekend, 20th Century Fox has sent over 6 clips. Starring most of the cast (Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, and many others), the film will feature such iTunes friendly covers as: “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Raise Your Glass,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Lucky.” The pic also throws some original songs into the mix in the form of “Loser Like Me” and “Hell to the No!” Hit the jump to watch the clips. As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for Fox, President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly took some time to talk about the focus of their returning series for the Fall season, the possibility of further seasons for a number of those shows, and the role that their new line-up will play, in determining the future of the network. Here are the most interesting points:

As if the world couldn’t get enough “Gleeking” (I’m pretty sure that’s actually when you projectile spit out of your mouth), we will soon be served a hot platter of the acclaimed sing-a-long high school drama not only on the silver screen, but in the third dimension as well. Only a little bit of footage was shown, but people went nuts over it. I never knew there were so many fans of Glee at Comic-Con. That is, until I became witness to the hundreds of shrieking fans reacting to a short clip from the upcoming Glee: The 3D Concert Movie like it was the second coming of Jesus. It was apparent that some Gleeks are just as diehard crazy as the majority of us nerds walking the convention floor. But no, it won’t just be a 2-hour episode of Glee. Think Justin Bieber Never Say Never meets a smaller group of slightly older but equally crazed female fans.

The trailer for Glee: The 3D Concert Movie is now available online and it looks pretty much like I expected: Justin Bieber: Never Say Never with the cast of Glee substituted in. Directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame), the film will feature such iTunes friendly covers as: “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Raise Your Glass,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Lucky.” The pic also throws some original songs into the mix in the form of “Loser Like Me” and “Hell to the No!” (news which, I assume, means something to fans of the series).
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Featuring series stars such as Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, and Cory Monteith, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie opens its two-week theatrical engagement on August 12th.

The nominations for the 2011 Primetime Emmys have been announced. HBO, as always, led the pack as the miniseries Mildred Pierce picked up 21 nominations, Boardwalk Empire picked up 18 nominations, and Game of Thrones nabbed 13 nominations. Also, as usual, Mad Men held the most nominations of any dramatic series by picking up 19 nods. The Emmys also once again overlooked Community in favor of garbage like Glee, but they also finally showed Parks and Recreation some love. It’s also cool that Louis C.K. (Louie), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Walton Goggins (Justified) picked up nominations, but overlooking Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) was just one of the many snubs that the Emmys have become known for.
Hit the jump to check out the full list of nominees. Winners will be announced Sunday, September 18th at 8/7c on Fox.

While Glee creator Ryan Murphy has been talking quite a bit recently about how he’s planning on having a number of the show’s characters “graduate” after the upcoming third season of the show (in keeping with chronology, most characters began in season one as sophomores), it wasn’t known exactly which characters he was talking about or how many of the actors would be leaving the show. Well now Murphy has explicitly stated that the show’s three biggest stars, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer, will not be back for season 4:
“You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”
Murphy went on to say that “more characters are leaving than are staying.” Hit the jump for more of what the Glee mastermind has in store.

Just recently we got a rundown of premiere dates for The CW’s returning and new series for the 2011-2012, now Fox has unveiled their premiere dates for new and returning series starting in September. Returning series include the musical comedy Glee, the family sitcom Raising Hope, and the long-running animated hit Family Guy. In addition, you’ll find premiere dates for promising new series like Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi drama Terra Nova, Jonah Hill’s new animated comedy Allen Gregory and Zooey Deschanel’s charmingly funny New Girl. For information on all the new series hitting fox, be sure to check out our upfronts article from last month. But for a full rundown of Fox’s premiere dates for these series and more (including The X Factor if that kind of show is your cup of tea) hit the jump.

For most of us, high school doesn’t last forever. But sometimes in the television world, it seems like characters can be stuck in the same time period for far too long. However, in the case of Glee, series creator Ryan Murphy says he fully intends to keep characters moving with time and that the third season will see certain characters who will be seniors at McKinley High School graduating, and therefore likely leaving the show. Murphy recently confirmed plans to have certain characters leave high school, and that new cast members will enter the mix. See what Murphy had to say after the jump.
