The dramedy 50/50, directed by Jonathan Levine (The Wackness), is one of my favorite films of 2011. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston, the film is based on screenwriter Will Reiser’s real-life battle with cancer and focuses on the twists, turns, shock, sadness, and comedy he experienced along the way.
While at the Toronto Film Festival, I was able to speak with Rogen about the movie. We talked about balancing the humor with telling an honest and real story, was it tough to get made, karaoke, what’s the last video game he played, and the great reaction at TIFF. In addition, Rogen also gave me updates on the Green Hornet sequel, My Mother’s Curse, Neighborhood Watch, and he tells me that he’s going to direct Seth and Jay vs. the Apocalypse this February. Hit the jump to watch.

With Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet taking in almost $230 million worldwide (before home video), it is one of those films that could easily get a sequel. After all, studios are always looking for franchises, and I’m sure Sony was hoping Green Hornet would be a big enough hit that everyone involved would want to make another one. So when I sat down with Seth Rogen for 50/50 at the Toronto Film Festival, I asked about the status of a Green Hornet sequel. He told me:
“Not any time in the foreseeable future. It’s just not something we’re interested in right now. It’s a lot more fun to make cheaper, much dirtier movies.”

Sony has released 7 movie clips from Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet which stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Tom Wilkinson. If you’re asking how can Seth Rogen be an action hero, these clips will show you. As you’ll see, The Green Hornet is a twist on the superhero genre since it’s the sidekick who does most of the fighting.
I caught an early screening of the film and liked it a lot. While there was some bad buzz online awhile ago, I promise you the film is going to surprise you. Not only does The Green Hornet feature a number of impressive action scenes, it’s really funny. Hit the jump for the clips. Look for video interviews with the cast next week:

Every year at Comic-Con, the convention floor is sensory overload. You’ve got thousands of people walking around trying to take everything in. Some are trying to buy convention exclusives, others are trying to get autographs and meet celebrities, and the rest are there for a myriad of reasons. Comic-Con has definitely become a melting pot of pop culture and if you’re into movies, TV, comic books, toys, anime, and almost anything that can be collected, it’s located in San Diego in late July. While the show has grown bigger than the Convention Center can hold (which is why some events are now offsite at other hotels) it’s an amazing show and something you have to experience for yourself.
Since many of you have never been to Comic-Con, I decided to take a ton of photos of the Convention Floor and some of the cool things taking place outside on the street. So if you’re into everything I mentioned above, you’re going to love the 100 pictures after the jump.

There is wreckage everywhere – you can’t help but stand on it. Though we are being guided around, it’s hard not to stop and look at the waste on the floor. And the shells, there’s ton of different shells. Many guns were fired in this newsroom, papers are shredded, computers destroyed, and lights hang precariously from the ceiling. We’re in The Sentinel, the paper owned by Seth Rogen’s character Britt Reed. Reed is also the titular crime fighter in the superhero movie The Green Hornet and producer Neal Moritz is shocked and impressed “I just can’t believe we destroyed it like this.”
Moritz continues: “Ultimately, in the third act it becomes the main set piece. There’s an incredible car chase that goes through the office of the newspaper. Britt Reed and Kato are trying to download something, but Britt has no idea how to download. The Black Beauty (the Hornet’s car) comes screeching across this big marble lobby and they’re being pursued by the bad guys. They run straight into a glass elevator, and half the car is in, half the car is out. The elevator starts going up and the car gets cut in half. They crash through the entire Sentinel media being pursued by the bad guys to try to get into Britt Reed’s office. None of this was set dressing. All of this was done for real. The half-car, which we built, came through here at an incredible speed and just took all this stuff out. We shot off real missiles.”
In this set visit, I look at The Sentinel, the printing press, Kato’s garage, and Britt’s pad, get a chance to talk with Neal Moritz and Seth Rogen, and take a quick ride in the film’s hero car, The Black Beauty. My set visit report for The Green Hornet after the jump.

Earlier tonight Sony invited 10 online reporters to watch the new trailer for Green Hornet at Mann’s Chinese in Hollywood and then do a Q&A with Seth Rogen, Director Michel Gondry, Evan Goldberg and Producer Neal Moritz. Following the Q&A, we were escorted across the street to Jimmy Kimmel Live, as Rogen was going on tonight’s episode to premiere the trailer. Well, that was the plan.
It ends up the power went out at Jimmy Kimmel Live, so it looks like tonight’s episode will air tomorrow night, which is just par for the course on Green Hornet. Thankfully, the Q&A was really informative and surprisingly engaging, but it’s probably due to the great group of reporters Sony had assembled to ask questions. So if you’d like to know a lot more about Green Hornet, hit the jump:

Just an hour ago I was backstage at Jimmy Kimmel Live standing next to Seth Rogen. The reason I got to be there is Sony invited 10 online reporters to watch the new Green Hornet trailer at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood and then do an informal Q&A with Seth Rogen, Michel Gondry, Evan Goldberg and Producer Neal Moritz in the theater. After the interview, we were walked across the street to watch Rogen premiere the trailer on national TV by hanging out backstage in the green room.
Well, that was the plan. While the first part went off without a hitch, while we were waiting backstage at Jimmy Kimmel, the power went out in the control room for the first time in the history of the show. What followed was the entire staff trying to solve power problems and it ended with Seth Rogen recording his segment on Jimmy Kimmel’s computer. Let’s just say it was not the night Sony planned for.
But on a positive note, the trailer looked awesome, and it’ll be online in less than an hour. Also, I’ll have the transcript and a more detailed write-up online very soon. Consider this a preview piece….

For all you toys collectors, we’ve been given some images from Mezco’s The Green Hornet toy line and Spin Master Ltd.’s toy line for The Last Airbender. While the Green Hornet images aren’t high resolution, you can still get a good look at the costume for Green Hornet and Kato. Hit the jump to check out all the images:

Earlier today I got to sit down with director Michel Gondry (Be Kind Rewind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party) for an extended interview. As a big fan of his work and the crazy stuff he does on his website, I’ll admit to being very excited when I was offered the chance to speak with him. The reason he was in town was to promote his newest film, Thorn In The Heart. The movie is a very personal look at his aunt Suzette Gondry and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. The movie premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and it’ll open in Los Angeles May 14.
Of course with Gondry also directing Sony’s big budget Green Hornet movie starring Seth Rogen, we also talked about how that project is going. We covered working with editor Sally Menke, how does he blend his artistic nature with the demands a mainstream blockbuster, what is “Kato-vision” and how does work in the film, and post-production 3D conversion. Hit the jump for the interview. It’s been time indexed.

About two weeks ago, I sat down with producer Neal H. Moritz for an awesome interview where we talked about everything he has in development and how he got into making movies. Due to how long the interview was, I ran many articles under the headline “Seven Days With Neal Moritz”, and broke up each part by what movies we covered.
Due to how successful the articles were, I figured some of you might want to read the entire interview as it actually happened. Also, I’m a huge fan of listening to what people have to say and not reading it as a transcript, so besides the full interview, after the jump you can also get the audio.
During the interview we talked about 3D, R.I.P.D., the Highlander reboot, Fast and the Furious 5/6, Shane Black’s Doc Savage, his remake of Total Recall, Flash Gordon, Battle: Los Angeles, Green Hornet, Jack the Giant Killer, Preacher, S.W.A.T. 2, the remake of Escape From New York, Man-Witch, The Boys, Sinbad, and so much more. It’s an awesome interview and one I cannot recommend enough:

Continuing my “Seven Days with Producer Neal Moritz” series, tonight I’ve got updates on Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles, Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet, Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer and a lot of 3D talk. Some of the highlights are:
Green Hornet
Jack the Giant Killer

Over the past few months I’ve landed interviews with a few movie producers (Mike De Luca, Dan Lin) that have a lot of projects in development. Since the interviews cover so many movies, I’ve called the series “Seven Days With…” so I can break down each interview into smaller sections. While you may have thought the series was over…it was only because I’ve been trying to land my next interviewee and today begins “Seven Days With Producer Neal H. Moritz.”
If you look over Moritz’s IMDb profile, you’ll see he’s producing some huge projects like Doc Savage, Man-Witch, Hench, 21 Jump Street, Jack the Giant Killer, xXx, Battle: Los Angeles, Green Hornet, Flash Gordon, and so many other movies it would be impossible to list them all here. All you need to know is…over the next week, you can expect tons of updates on almost everything he’s involved with and what he thinks about 3D, how he got started as a producer, and so much more.
While I debated where to start “Seven Days With Neal Moritz”, I went with his very popular franchise and a another franchise that’s about to get a reboot: Fast and the Furious and Highlander! So if you’re curious about either series, hit the jump for info on Fast and the Furious 5 and 6 as well as what’s up with the reboot of Highlander:

While many thought “The Green Hornet” would never get made due to all the problems finding a director and Kato, thanks to a press release from Columbia Pictures, we know filming has actually begun!
I know some of you aren’t excited to see “Green Hornet” and to those…I’m sorry. Because any film directed by Michel Gondry is worth seeing and this is going to be the biggest budget he’s ever had. Come on…aren’t you a little bit curious? Anyway, I’ve posted the press release after the jump so take a look:
